Although is more famous for its blushes, NARS is one of my top brands when it comes to eyeshadows. A few shades are tragic misses - I'm looking at you Night Series - but most of them are simply perfect and definitely worth the splurge. At the top of my favourites list is Alhambra, a duo consisting of a soft metallic rose and a golden champagne, safely stored inside the signature rubbery packaging.

It's quite an unusual duo: often NARS duos are either made up of two contrasting shades or of the common lid/crease combo; Alhambra instead contains two light lid shades, perfect to achieve a wide-awake luminous look. Even though I love deep smoky looks, on a daily basis I'm all about making my eyes look bigger and I like to use this combo to create a delicate gradient: the soft pink in the inner corner, the golden champagne in the outer third and lower lash line, and a mix of the two all over the lid. If I need extra definition I add a tiny bit of a light matte brown such as MAC Kid in the crease to tie everything in.

The texture is to die for: they don't crumble at all so there're no fall outs. The shadows are buttery and blend seamlessly and uber easily. They stay put and look really nice for the whole day. I can't recommend this duo enough.

This duo is perfect to complement blue eyes, but works very well with all eye colors really.

If you're on the market for some radiant nudes definitely give it a go, i highly recommend it.

Sebbene sia molto più famoso per i blush, quando si tratta di ombretti NARS è uno dei miei marchi preferiti. Alcuni eyeshadows sono piuttosto deludenti - sto guardando voi, serie Night - ma per la maggior parte sono stellari e decisamente degni dell'investimento. Ai primi posti della lista dei miei colori preferiti c'è senz'altro Alhambra, un duo formato da un delicato rosa metallico ed uno champagne dorato, custoditi ovviamente nel tipico compact gommato.
La combinazione è piuttosto insolita: spesso i duo NARS sono composti o dalla combinazione di due tonalità a contrasto o dalla più tipica accoppiata colore per la palpebra/colore per la piega; il duo Alhambra invece è formato da due ombretti molto chiari e con un finish analogo, perfetti per ottenere uno sguardo luminoso e 'sveglio'.
Anche se adoro gli smoky carichi, per il giorno punto a far sembrare gli occhi più grandi ed utilizzo questi ombretti per creare un gradiente delicato: il rosa nell'angolo interno, l'oro nell'angolo esterno e sulla palpebra inferiore, con un mix dei due su tutta la palpebra mobile. Se sento il bisogno di un po' di definizione basta aggiungere un pizzico di ombretto opaco marrone chiaro, come Kid di MAC, per legare il tutto.
La texture è una meraviglia: la cialda non si sgretola al passaggio del pennello, per cui non ci sono fall-outs. Gli ombretti sono burrosi e si stendono facilmente e restano al loro posto per tutto il giorno conservando intensità e freschezza. Non posso raccomandarvelo abbastanza.

Alhambra è  adatto a tutti i colori dell'iride, ma in particolare è perfetto per far risaltare gli occhi azzurri. Se siete alla ricerca di una combo di ombretti nudi ma con quel qualcosa in più, ve lo raccomando caldamente.

Now loving: MAC Tempting & Arena eyeshadows

No matter how much I enjoy trying new products, I'm a creature of habit and tend to use the same products over and over and over for my everyday makeup. Every now and then I have to hide my Naked palettes and put something new in my makeup bag in order to actually use it.
Between my Urban decay palettes, the Smoky copper quad and the Effeto nudo quartet I've neglected my MAC eyeshadows for far too long lately, so I've invested in a cute little pro palette with two slots - which by the way is very convenient even if I haven't figured out how I'm going to extract the eyeshadow pans when I'll decide to switch shades yet - and filled it with two eyeshadows that deserved a little more love.

Arena is a soft golden peach eyeshadow with satin finish. It's really nice to use all over the lid as a wash of color for a subtle definition. The formula is soft and buttery but I wish it was a little more pigmented. I have to pack up a lot of color in order to achieve a full coverage base but it's a lovely shade nonetheless. Tempting is a bronzey gold medium brown with flecks of gold through it. Despite the lustre finish it applies well, with minimum fall outs. It's a very complex shade and looks good both blended in the crease for definition or from the lash line toward the crease for a gorgeous quick smoky eye. Arena and Tempting look also very good blended on top of each other and paired with a red lip (tutorial by Lucy Garrick here).
They're both very versatile and easy to tone down for a natural look or to intensify for bolder looks.

Since this tecnique was a hit I was thinking to switch shades every month, trying to introduce brighter colors in my daily routine and step out of my comfort zone a little more often as well.

Non importa quanto adori comprare e testare prodotti nuovi, resto comunque una creaturina abitudinaria e tendo ad utilizzare sempre le stesse cose ancora  e ancora. Ogni tanto devo nascondere le mie Naked palette e far scivolare qualcosa di nuovo nella mia makeup bag per essere sicura di utilizzarlo.
Ultimamente tra le palette Urban decay, il quad Smoky copper e la palette Effeto nudo, ho ignorato i miei ombretti MAC troppo a lungo, per cui ho investito in una pro palette da 2 - che tra l'altro è molto comoda da tenere a portata di mano, anche se per il momento non ho ancora capito come estrarre i refill senza distruggere le cialde - e l'ho riempita con 2 dei colori che hanno ricevuto meno attenzione di recent.

Arena è un pesca dorato molto delicato con un finish setoso. E' ottimo da utilizzare su tutta la palpebra per una leggera definizione. La polvere ha una texture morbida e burrosa, molto facile da applicare e sfumare, ma avrei preferito una maggiore pigmentazione. Bisogna stratificare il colore per ottenere una coprenza uniforme, ma si tratta comunque di un bellissimo colore. Tempting è un marrone medio bronzo-dorato con pagliuzze dorate. Nonostante il finish Lustre si applica con facilità senza troppi fall outs. E' un ombbretto molto complesso e multidimensionale, perfetto sia da utilizzare nella piega per definire sia da sfumare sulla palpebra per uno smoky eye veloce. Questi due colori stanno benissimo anche sovrapposti per accompagnare un rossetto rosso acceso (come si vede nel tutorial di Lucy Garrick qui) per cui permettono di creare una grande varietà di look.
Sono tonalità molto versatili, facili da adattare a look più naturali oppure più intensi e decisi.

Visto che la tecnica sembra funzionare ed ho utilizzato moltissimo questi ombretti nelle ultime settimane, penso proprio che continuerò a cambiare i colori di mese in mese per introdurre più variazione nella mia routine quotidiana, utilizzando anche colori più accesi per uscire un po' più spesso dagli schemi.

Review: TheBodyShop Winter trend smoky eye palette - Smoky copper

The Body shop creatives really out-bested themselves this year: after the beautiful Christmas bath & body gift sets, the brand released a gorgeous limited edition makeup collection that brings back their smoky eyes palettes with a new on-trend twist on color, along with matching eyeliners, lovely lipstick shades and body shimmer to fully embrace the Holiday spirit.

The Body Shop Smoky eye palette - Smoky copper* £14/€20

The Smoky copper palette* features 4 metallic powder eyeshadows in shades of copper and coffee with delicate shimmer, a large mirror and two decent brushes for touch-ups on the go.
The off-white shadow reminds me of a less yellow version of MAC Nylon: the frosty finish makes it perfect to highlight the inner corners but it's a little too much to use all over the lid or on the brow bone in my opinion. The pale copper color is one of those universally flattering shades, like MAC Naked lunch or Stila Kitten, that really open up your eyes for an instant pick-me up look, while the mid-tone copper-ish brown is a lovely transition shade and it's perfect for a quick wash of color. Finally the dark chocolate brown is extremely pigmented and quite multi-dimensional thanks to the beautiful red flecks. You really need the smallest amount to darken the outer V or to fake a fuller lash line.
All four shades have lovely silky-soft textures and apply smoothly without fall outs.

I enjoy the color combination a lot; the gradient is just perfect and can be easily modulated for both day and night looks. If I have to find something to complain about, I kind of miss a matte shadow, but I don't know what shade I'd give up in exchange. Not every one likes to wear four metallic/shimmer eyeshadows all together even if it's not an 'in-your-face' shimmer; I don't think it's too much, not even for the day, but I know that some people would like a matte shadow to break the metallic vibe.

I've been wearing it a lot lately enjoying the different combinations and the creamy texture. It's a great palette with beautiful easy-to-wear shades that will look good on everyone. This was my first experience with The Body Shop makeup range and I'm quite impressed. I can't wait to try something else.

I creativi The Body shop si sono davvero superati quest'anno: dopo i favolosi regali natalizi bagno & corpo, il marchio ha lanciato una meravigliosa collezione makeup in edizione limitata che ripropone le palette di ombretti smoky in nuove tonalità alla moda, affiancate da matite occhi abbinate, rossetti e shimmer il corpo per abbracciare pienamente lo splendore delle Feste.

La palette Smoky copper* include 4 ombretti metallici declinati nelle tonalità rame e caffè con  un pizzico di brillantini, un ampio specchio e due mini pennelli cruelty free perfetti per i ritocchi.
L'ombretto color burro mi ricorda una versione meno gialla di MAC Nylon: il finish ultra-metallizzato lo rende perfetto per illuminare l'angolo interno dell'occhio ma, proprio come il suo omologo, mi sembra eccessivo da usare su tutta la palpebra o sull'arcata sopraccigliare. Il rame pallido è uno di quei colori che stanno bene a tutti, come MAC Naked lunch e Stila Kitten, ed apre lo sguardo per un effetto '8 ore di sonno' immediato; il marrone medio ramato è perfetto come colore di transizione o da applicare velocemente su tutta la palpebra. Infine il color cioccolato scuro è super pigmentato ed è reso più interessante da minuscoli brillantini rossi. Ne serve davvero pochissimo per scurire l'angolo esterno o per simulare una linea delle ciglia più piena. 
Tutte e quattro le tonalità hanno una texture morbida e setosa e si applicano con facilità senza caduta di polvere o brillantini sulle guance.

La combinazione di colori mi piace moltissimo; il gradiente è perfetto e può essere modulato con facilità sia per il giorno sia per la sera. Se devo proprio trovare un difetto a questa palette, trovo che manchi un colore opaco, ma non saprei proprio scegliere quale cialda sostituire. Non tutti si sentono a proprio agio ad indossare solo ombretti metallici/perlati, anche se non si tratta comunque di un'iridescenza eccessiva; non è troppo nemmeno per il trucco giorno, ma so che in molti preferirebbero spezzare l'effetto metallizzato con un ombretto matte.

Smoky copper si è guadagnata un posto fisso nella mia makeup bag e l'ho utilizzata spessissimo nelle ultime settimane. E' un'ottima palette con bellissime tonalità, facili da indossare e che s'intonano ad ogni tipo di incarnato. E' stata la mia prima esperienza con il makeup TBS e non vedo l'ora di provare qualche altro prodotto.

Review: Armani Eyes to kill 4 color eyeshadow palette 04 Effeto Nudo

Along with the infamous Maestro foundation, Armani had another great product coming out this fall: the Eyes to kill eyeshadow palettes, which introduce the brand new 'perfect satin' and 'perfect matte' eyeshadow formulas. I knew they were going to be pretty expensive so I waited for a nice discount to grab mine. They come in 8 color options but given the price I decided to play safe and go for the neutral combo. You can never go wrong with those.

Giorgio Armani Eyes to kill 4 color eyeshadow palette 04 Effeto nudo $59/£49.50/€63.50

Effeto nudo is the quintessential neutral palette: includes a beautiful champagne shade, two matte cool browns and a nice midtone chocolate shade. The texture blew me out of the water, so creamy and easy to blend. The highlighter shade is extremely flattering and really opens up your eyes; is perfect for day wear and even as a brow highlighter, cause it's more glowy than shimmery. The matte shades are also very creamy and super pigmented, so different from the chalky, powdery consistency of some matte shades I'm used to. Definitely two of the best textures I've worked with.

The sculpted packaging is very sturdy and overall looks and feels very expensive. It comes with two double ended sponge applicators, hidden in a secret compartment underneath the eyeshadow tier; to be fair the price tag would require better quality tools in my opinion, like a couple of decent mini brushes, but included applicators annoy me to no end anyways, so I could have easily done without them. The little leaflet with some clues about where to place the different shades to achieve more natural or more dramatic looks was a nice extra touch.

Christmas is just around the corner and, depending on your budget of course, you may want to check this palette out: it'd be perfect for any neutral fiend like me, but it would also make a great gift for a newbie, since the formula and the color combination are seriously fool proof, or even for more mature ladies, cause these are the perfect shades to use on hooded eyes. Basic yet a must have.
Overall I think is a brilliant palette, with great quality eyeshadows. It's a little overpriced but if you have a discount code I totally recommend it. I may actually indulge in the 01 Maestro combo as well: the lightest grey shades look superb.

Insieme al famoso fondotinta Maestro, l'altra interessantissima proposta di Armani per questo autunno/inverno sono le palette Eyes to kill, che introducono le due nuove formulazioni di ombretto 'perfect satin' e 'perfect matte'. Sapevo che sarebbero state abbastanza costose per cui ho aspettato uno sconto di Sephora per acquistare la mia. Al momento sono disponibili 8 varianti, dalle più neutre a quelle colorate, ma visto il prezzo ho preferito giocare sul sicuro ed buttarmi sui neutri, che avrei utilizzato sicuramente. Con quelli non si sbaglia mai.

Effeto nudo è la palette naturale per eccellenza: include una graziosa tonalità champagne, due marroni freddi matte ed un color cioccolato di media intensità, sempre opaco. La texture mi ha colto di sorpresa, così cremosa e facile da sfumare. L'ombretto illuminante color champagne dona molto all'incarnato ed apre lo sguardo; è perfetto per il makeup da giorno e persino per l'arco sopraccigliare, perchè dona luminosità al contrario dei tipici ombretti shimmer. I colori opachi sono anch'essi cremosi e molto pigmentati, diversissimi da molti ombretti matte farinosi che si vedono in giro. Decisamente tra le texture migliori che mi sia mai capitato di utilizzare.

Il packaging sembra una piccola scultura; è di qualità e perfettamente in linea con il prezzo. Nel compact sono incluse due spugnette doppie, nascoste in uno scomparto segreto al di sotto dello strato che contiene gli ombretti; ad essere puntigliosi il costo richiederebbe strumenti di qualità superiore, come un paio di pennellini, ma visto che gli applicatori inclusi nei prodotti mi irritano come poche altre cose, ne avrei fatto volentieri a meno a prescindere.

Natale è dietro l'angolo e, naturalmente se il vostro budget lo permette, vale proprio la pena di prendere in considerazione questa palette: sarebbe perfetta per una qualunque amante dei colori naturali come la sottoscritta, ma anche per le amanti del makeup meno esperte perchè sia i colori sia la texture sono a prova d'imbranato; o addirittura per le signore più mature perchè la tavolozza di colori è adattissima al trucco degli occhi infossati o con la palpebra calante. Sono tonalità basic ma comunque dei must have che non passano mai di moda.
In generale la palette è favolosa, con ombretti di qualità molto alta. E' decisamente costosa, ma sarebbe un ottimo modo per spendere uno sconto del 20% da Sephora, per esempio. Stavo quasi pensando di regalarmi anche la combinazione 01 Maestro: i grigi più chiari sono superbi.

MAC Pressed pigment in Light touch W10 review & swatches

Out of the crazy bunch of collections being released in September, the MAC Face&Body one was the most interesting for me, because of the professional looking products: it comes with a new size of my beloved F&B foundation, 2 quite original brushes created specifically to apply contour and highlighting products and a brand new line of Sculpting creams and pressed pigments.

The latter especially caught my eyes as soon as the press infos started popping out in the blogosphere: 6 skin tone shades, from W10 to NW55 to be used as an highligher with frosty finish with an almost wet look. And indeed I was expecting a creamy powder with a frosty finish.

I wasn't prepared for tons of chunky silver glitters mixed with a neutral base. Disco ball effect granted. As highlighter is definitely a no-go. I tried it as eyeshadow as well but the result was equally messy.

 

Sad thing is this guy here – Light touch, the lightest of the line - looks so pretty when swatched on the back of the hand with an almost-wet effect, but once applied with a flat brush it's a glitter galore. Application with a fluffy brush causes major fall outs while foiling - application with a wet brush - makes it extra metallic and not so good for a day look, but at least makes it some kind of wearable - until of course the product dries -.

 

I wore it today as an all over wash with a soft matte brown in the crease for definition and I loved it, until the fall out nightmare started. I had to remove the pigment after 3-4 hours because the glitters were making my eyes itchy and as a contact wearer I didn't want to push my luck too much. I'm used to wear MAC reflects glitter dabbed over my eyeshadow but I never experienced this level of fall outs and annoyance: I mean I'm sitting here writing the review and I can see I have glitters all over my chest and hands.

So far, not so good. I bet this would look so good in picture - I bought it to use on my brides in first place - but untill I can find a way to make it comfortable to wear I'm not sure I'll get many uses out of this pigment. I'm so disappointed.

MAC Pressed pigments are available now online and in store and retail for 25$/£16.50 /€22.50. I say skip these unless you're planning a crazy Halloween look.

Tra tutte le collezioni MAC in uscita a Settembre, la Face and body mi è sembrata la più interessante, per via dei prodotti più particolari e dall’uso professionale: è composta infatti da una nuova taglia del mio beneamato fondotinta F&B, 2 pennelli dal taglio originale pensati apposta per definire i volumi del viso, ed una nuova linea di creme illuminanti e per il contouring e pigmenti pressati.

Questi ultimi sono quelli che hanno catturato la mia attenzione fin dalla prima immagine stampa comparsa nella blogosfera: 6 pigmenti pressati nei colori della pelle, da W10 a NW55, da utilizzare come illuminanti con un finish luminoso intenso. Ed è questo che mi aspettavo, una polvere cremosa con lo stesso finish frosty degli ombretti. Non ero invece preparata ad una tonnellata di glitter argentati, lievemente più grandi dei Reflects, mescolati ad una base neutra. Effetto palla da discoteca assicurato. Come illuminante è improponibile. L’ho provato anche come ombretto, ma il risultato è stato ugualmente deludente.

E’ un vero peccato, perchè Light touch - la tonalità più chiara disponibile – è bellissimo swatchato sul dorso della mano, con questo effetto quasi bagnato, ma se applicato con un pennello piatto è un delirio di brillantini. L’applicazione con un pennello vaporoso causa la caduta di tantissimi glitter sulle guance, mentre il foiling – applicazione con pennello bagnato – rende il pigmento ancora più metallico e non molto appropriato al look da giorno, ma per lo meno utilizzabile – certo, poi appena il tutto si asciuga siamo al punto di partenza -.

L’ho indossato proprio ‘stamattina su tutta la palpebra mobile con un marrone medio nella piega per dare definizione e l’effetto mi è piaciuto, fino a che l’incubo fall out non è iniziato. Ho dovuto togliere tutto dopo 3-4 ore perché i glitter mi facevano prudere gli occhi e visto che porto le lenti a contatto non volevo sfidare la fortuna più di tanto. Applico spesso i MAC reflects sopra all’ombretto, per cui non sono nuova all’uso dei glitter, ma non ho mai assistito ad una tale ecatombe: per dire, mentre scrivevo la review mi sono accorta di avere brillantini perfino nella scollatura.

Per quello che ho visto fin’ora, pollice verso. Scommetto che questi pigmenti renderebbero magnificamente in foto – l’idea iniziale infatti era quella di usarli sulle mie spose - ma al momento mi sembrano inutilizzabili. Sono veramente delusa.

I pigmenti pressati sono disponibili ora nei negozi ed online e costano 22.50€. Io direi di saltarli a piè pari a meno che non abbiate in mente un look anni '80 per Halloween.

There are no blue eyeshadows simply because I rarely use them, nevertheless Aquadisiac and Fresh waters are really popular. Also I hate silver eyeshadows with all my heart, however Electra gets a lot of love. Dupes for pretty much all the matte browns can be found in the Naked palettes, so if you have those palettes just skip them.
Carbon used to be the blackest black, but I hear the new formula lacks in pigmentation. I bet you’ll be able to find a cheaper alternative if you need a matte black. Another thing to keep in mind is, aside for Cranberry and few exceptions - like Sushi flower -, MAC pinks are not that good in terms of texture and/or pigmentation. I think you can spend your money in better brands in this case.

For the life of me I couldn’t take a decent picture of Vanilla (3.) ‘cause it blends perfectly with my skin color. Anyways, Vanilla and Blanc type (2.) – and Brule as well – look pretty much the same: matte or almost matte highlighting shades, skin-like blending shades – perfect to help the blending process or to tone down shades in case you put to much on - or the perfect all over base for a vintage look. You just have to choose the texture you prefer.
Nylon (1.) is super frosty, too much for an all over wash, but a tiny bit in the inner corner opens the eyes like nothing else. Shroom (4.) gives a soft wash of transparent shimmer that looks lovely on brides or just to brighten a neutral look. Retrospect (5.) is a beautiful cool gold: is a lustre so it gives a frosty, glittery look.

I have a thing for greens: my favorite, Sweet & punchy (6.), was LE with the To the beach collection, but if you’re looking for a bright green I’d recommend Lucky green, finally permanent, or Juxt, if you want something a little lighter. Humid (7.) – forest green – is another must have if you like greens: it’s the perfect complement for an emerald smokey eye or looks gorgeous in the crease with a butter shade on the lid. Sumptuous olive (8.) is a gorgeous olive green with gold shimmer and a lovely soft texture – looks amazing on mature skins or on brown eyes -. If you like greens but you don’t feel so much daring, Greensmoke (9.) is a metallic-ish grey with green shimmer, perfect for a simple smokey eye.

Cranberry (12.) is another very popular shade: is a reddish plum with pink shimmer and a frost finish. It’s extremely pigmented and looks beautiful on green eyes. Trax (13.) belongs to the same color family but it’s definitely less pigmented. I use it to give a pink twist to a flat brown smokey eye or over a base to show the beautiful gold shimmer. Satellite dreams (10.) is my favorite purple: plum with violet and blue pearl shimmer. If you like more cool toned purples you can check Parfait amour. Shale (11.) is more on the mauve-ish side and gives a lovely wash of color with just the right amount of shimmer to make it interesting.

Vex (14.) and Club (15.) are duochrome eyeshadows: when the light hits them they change color. Vex is a light pearl grey with a hint of lavender undertones and frost shimmer that flashes pink or green according to the lighting. I tend to use it as a base for purple smokey eyes but looks beautiful on it own as a wash of color. Club is one of the most famous and copied MAC shades: it’s a reddish brown with green pearl. It’s quite multidimensional, like peacock feathers; sometimes it looks more teal, under other lighting appears more gunmetal, and blends into a warm chocolate brown, so is one of those color that can be used to achieve a complete look with no effort.

Copperplate (16.) is defined as a muted mid-tone grey, but I definitely see a warm undertone here. It’s a matte² so it’s amazing to work with. Print (17.) is a basic grey with a hint of shimmer; it may look boring but it’s one of my favorite shades for dark smokey looks. Smut (18.) is a dark concrete gray, almost black, with reddish shimmer and it’s a good alternative to black for softer looks.

These shades sit together in my brow palette. They’re all matte – well, Mystery and Cork are actually satin, but they look pretty much matte – since you don’t want shimmer in your eyebrows. With a little bit of mixing I can cover pretty much all brow colors. Omega (19.) suits perfectly blond brows. I use Cork (22.) and Charcoal brown (21.) on brunettes respectively with warm and neutral undertones, and Mystery (20.) on darker hair. Obviously I use them as normal eyeshadow as well with great results. With the exception of Cork that has a golden undertone, all these shades have cool taupe-ish undertones.

Samoa silk (23.) is a almost-matte peach shade that I tend to use in the crease to soften warm brown eyeshadows or all over the lid for a bonne mine effect. Amber lights (24.) – peachy-brown with shimmer – looks gorgeous on blue eyes and on tanned skin tones. It has one of the best textures in my opinion. Coppering (25.) is a bright orange copper, while Antiqued (26.) is an ash brown with bronze shimmer. All blended together give the most stunning orange-toned smokey eye look that I look forward to wear this upcoming summer. If you find orange shadow a little hard to wear, try breaking the warmth with a fine line of black eyeliner along the lash line.

Kid (27.) – beige cashmere - is a good blending shade. It’s slightly lighter than the more popular Wedge, but you don’t need them both since the difference is barely noticeable. Naked Lunch (28.) and All that glitters (29.) are two of those ‘my skin but better’ shades: Naked lunch is pinker, while All that glitters has orange undertones. They both give a soft wash of shimmer that opens the eyes and make them appear bigger. Era (30.) is a soft beige with shimmer and I use it in my everyday makeup when I’m in hurry ‘cause it gives a very elegant and subtle definition.

The gold and bronze family is the one I like and use the most: I find they suit a lot of different skin tones and eye colors in an easy-to-wear way. Woodwinked (31.) is a very metallic antique gold that blends into an orange-ish brown - so it’s another of those shadows that can be used alone to achieve a complete look -. It suits perfectly more tanned skins but I use it anyways, sometimes mixed with Patina to tone down the yellow tones. Romp (32.) and Tempting (34.) look very similar on the skin but look differently in the pan: both chocolate browns with golden undertones the first and a hint of copper the second. Bronze (33.) it’s exactly what the name says: the perfect bronze eyeshadow and it’s a frost so is very pigmented and metallic. I mix it with Romp and Club for a gorgeous, almost holographic, smokey eye for the evening.

Last but not least, my favorite shades. Espresso (35.) is a muted golden brown that can be paired with thousand shades and in many ways. Mulch (36.) is my eyeshadow of choice for an effortless brown smokey look: it’s a reddish brown with bronze shimmer. Sable (37.) it’s a golden plum with bronze pearl and looks beautiful in the crease with Naked lunch on the lid. Satin taupe (38.) and Patina (39.) are my favorite shades of the whole lot. Satin taupe is indeed a taupe-y shade with silver shimmer, while Patina it’s a taupe brown with golden pearl. I often mix them together or use them alone for effortless looks. They are the two shades I recommend to every MAC newbie that asks me for a must have that goes with everything.

Of course you don’t have to buy all these shades, but knowing the colors that you use more often you now have a list of the best performing shades MAC has to offer. Also you won’t end up with tons of dupes or similar shades.

Nella mia lista ho cercato di menzionare solo ombretti parte della collezione permanente, e di considerare solo le texture migliori. Non ci sono blu semplicemente perché non li uso quasi mai, ma in ogni caso Aquadisiac e Fresh waters sono molto popolari. Personalmente odio gli ombretti argento con tutto il cuore, ma Electra è tra i più venduti.
Carbon una volta era considerato il più nero dei neri, ma ho sentito che la nuova formulazione manca di pigmentazione. Sono convinta che riuscirete a trovare un nero opaco di una marca molto più economica. Un’altra cosa da tenere a mente è che a parte Cranberry ed un paio di altre eccezioni – Sushi flower, per esempio – i rosa di MAC non sono eccezionali in termini di texture e/o pigmentazione. In questo caso i vostri soldi sarebbero meglio spesi con altre marche.

Non riuscirei a fare una foto decente di Vanilla (3.) neppure se ne andasse della mia vita, visto che corrisponde perfettamente al mio colore di pelle. Comunque, Vanilla e Blanc type (2.) – così come Brule – si distinguono appena: tonalità matte o quasi opache perfette da usare come highlighter dell’artcata sopraccigliare, per facilitare la transizione nella sfumatura, oppure su tutta la palpebra come base per un look vintage. Non resta che scegliere la texture che preferite.
Nylon (1.) è molto metallico - troppo per usarlo su tutta la palpebra - ma una piccola quantità nell’angolo interno dell’occhio, apre ed illumina lo sguardo. Shroom (4.) sulle pelli più chiare appare come una passata di micro shimmer trasparente, che dona tantissimo alle spose oppure è perfetto per un look neutron. Retrospect (5.) è un bellissimo oro freddo: ha un finish lustre, quindi i glitter sono molto evidenti.

Adoro i verdi: il mio preferito, Sweet & punchy (6.), era limited edition con la To the beach collection, ma, se siete in cerca di un verde brillante, raccomando Lucky green - finalmente permanente - o Juxt, che è un po’ più chiaro. Humid (7.) – verde bosco – è un altro must have se vi piacciono i verdi: è il complemento perfetto ad uno smokey nei toni smeraldo oppure è bellissimo sfumato nella piega con un color burro sulla palpebra mobile. Sumptuous olive (8.) è uno stupendo verde olive con un tocco di oro ed una texture morbida e facile da sfumare – è fantastico sulle pelli mature e con gli occhi nocciola -. Se amate il verde ma non volete osare troppo, Greensmoke (9.) è un grigio metallizzato con sfumature verdi, perfetto per uno smokey semplice e veloce.

Cranberry (13.) è un’altro ombretto molto popolare: è un prugna rossiccio con shimmer rosato. E’ estremamente pigmentato e dona tantissimo a chi ha gli occhi verdi. Trax (14.) appartiene alla stessa famiglia ma è decisamente meno pigmentato. Lo utilizzo per aggiungere un pizzico di rosa ad un look piatto oppure con una base per mostrare i bellissimi glitter oro. Satellite dreams (11.) è il mio viola preferito: prugna con iridescenza viola e turchese. Se preferite toni più freddi date un’occhiata a Parfait amour. Shale (12.) tende al malva, con la giusta quantità di shimmer che lo rende interessante ed è delizioso per un look discreto da tutti i giorni.

Vex (14.) e Club (15.) sono duochrome: a seconda della luce possono apparire di un colore oppure di un altro. Vex è un grigio perla chiaro con sottotoni lavanda e micro glitter che sembrano verdi o rosa, a seconda della luce. Di solito lo uso come base per gli smokey viola ma è bellissimo anche da solo, steso su tutta la palpebra. Club è uno degli eyeshadow più famosi ed anche tra i più copiati: è un marrone rossiccio con iridescenza verde. E’ molto multidimensionale, come le piume di pavone; a volte tende all’ottanio, sotto altre luci sembra bronzo, e sfumato appare come un cioccolato dai toni caldi, quindi si può utilizzare per un look complesso ma semplicissimo.

MAC definisce Copperplate (16.) come un grigio tenue, ma io ci vedo decisamente un sottotono caldo. E’ un matte², quindi la texture è meravigliosa. Print (17.) è un tipico grigio con l’aggiunta di micro shimmer; può sembrare un colore noioso, ma è uno dei miei preferiti da usare come transizione nei trucchi più scuri. Smut (18.) è un grigio asfalto scuro, quasi nero, con piccoli glitter tendenti al rosso ed è una buona alternativa al nero per un makeup più soft.

Tengo questi colori in una palette a parte che utilizzo principalmente per le sopracciglia. Sono quasi tutti matte - Mystery e Cork sono satin, ma l’effetto finale è quasi opaco – dato che usare un ombretto con glitter per definire le sopracciglia non è mai una buona idea. Omega (19.) è il più adatto alle sopracciglia bionde o castano chiaro. Utilizzo Cork (22.) e Charcoal brown (21.) rispettivamente sulle castane dai toni caldi e neutri, e Mystery (20.) sulle more. Ovviamente si possono utilizzare come ombretti normali, vista l’ottima texture e pigmentazione. Con l’eccezione di Cork che ha dei sottotoni dorati, sono tutte gradazioni di talpa dai toni freddi.

Samoa silk (23.) è un pesca quasi matte che tendo ad usare il più delle volte per sfumare verso l’arcata sopraccigliare gli ombretti marroni dai toni caldi o su tutta la palpebra per un trucco bonne mine. Amber lights (24.) – pesca metallizzato – dona tantissimo alle ragazze con gli occhi azzurri ed abbronzate. Ha una delle texture migliori in assoluto. Coppering (25.) è un rame aranciato brillante, mentre Antiqued (26.) è un marrone freddo con shimmer color bronzo. Tutt insieme creano un trucco nei toni arancio perfetto per la prossima estate. Se trovate difficile indossare gli ombretti arancioni, provate a spezzare con l’eyeliner nero.

Kid (27.) – cashmere – è uno di quei colori che si possono utilizzare per facilitare la sfumatura. E’ leggermente più chiaro del più famoso Wedge, ma, visto che la differenza si nota appena, non serve averli entrambi. Naked Lunch (28.) ed All that glitters (29.) sono due di quei colori ‘come la mia pelle ma meglio’: Naked lunch è più rosa, All that glitters più aranciato. Applicati su tutta la palpebra aprono l’occhio e lo fanno sembrare più grande. Era (30.) è un beige delicato con iridescenza neutra; è l’ombretto che uso più spesso quando ho poco tempo a disposizione ed ho bisogno di una leggera definizione, comunque molto elegante e discreta.

La famiglia degli ori e bronzi è quella che amo ed utilizzo di più: trovo che donino alle diverse carnagioni ed ai vari colori di iride e siano molto semplici da portare di giorno ed in varie situazioni. Woodwinked (31.) è un oro antico metallizzato che quando sfumato si trasforma in un marrone aranciato – per cui è un altro di quei colori che si possono utilizzare da soli per un trucco completo -. Dona tantissimo alle pelli olivastre ed abbronzate, ma amo indossarlo anche io, nonostante il pallore, magari attenuando il sottotono giallo con un pizzico di Patina. Romp (32.) e Tempting (34.) appaiono molto simili sulla pelle anche se le cialde sembrano diverse: sono entrambi color cioccolato, con sottotono dorato il primo, con un tono ramato il secondo. Bronze (33.) è l’ombretto color bronzo per antonomasia ed essendo un frost è molto metallico e pigmentato. Per un perfetto look da sera mischio Romp, Club e Bronze, ottenendo uno smokey quasi olografico per cui ricevo sempre tantissimi complimenti.

Ultime ma non meno importanti, le mie tonalità preferite. Espresso (35.) è un marrone dorato tenue dal finish matte che si può utilizzare insieme a tantissime tonalità diverse ed ha molteplici usi. Mulch (36.) è l’ombretto che utilizzo più spesso quando ho voglia di uno smokey eye veloce nei toni del marrone: è un marrone rossiccio con shimmer color bronzo. Sable (37.) è un prugna dorato con un finish perlato color bronzo ed è delizioso nella piega con Naked lunch sulla palpebra mobile. Satin taupe (38.) e Patina (39.) sono i miei preferiti in assoluto. Satin taupe è un talpa con pagliuzze argentate, mentre Patina è un talpa chiaro con base marrone ed effetto perlato color oro. Spesso li mischio per un look veloce. Sono i due ombretti che raccomando a chiunque mi chieda un consiglio su un must have di MAC che vada con tutto.

Naturalmente non dovete assolutamente acquistare tutte queste tonalità – ricordo che come lavoro part time per pagarmi le tasse universitarie, faccio la truccatrice freelance e pago per i miei prodotti con i soldi che guadagno – ma sapendo che colori vi piacciono e di quali tonalità avete bisogno, ora avete una lista di quelli che secondo me sono i migliori ombretti di MAC. In più non dovreste rischiare di acquistare per errore colori troppo simili.
