I'm slowly working my way through the pile of new arrivals that recently joined my already overflowing nail polish box, and one I've been loving a lot lately is Faby The Desert Rose (£11)*, a creamy pinkish nude with a foundation feel to it.
I got a lot of use of it in the past months for my toes and hands as well. I started wearing it at the end of the summer for put-together but not too fancy toes as the weather was getting a little crazy and I couldn't wear open shoes too often; however I still wanted to be prepared for any last drag of summer and the cheap-resistant formula worked pretty well at that stage. Since it's slightly darker than my skin tone, it gives that refined 'mannequin' effect without actually looking weird or too artificial. I also find nude shades like this one particularly beautiful on short nails because they make fingers and nails appear longer, therefore has quickly become my go-to shade for work.

The Desert Rose is super creamy but doesn't apply streaky. The formula is long lasting and incredibly pigmented and the firm but flexible brush makes application absolutely fool-proof.

Here I wanted to dress it up a little bit for an even and I paired with an accent finger sprinkled with Faby Season's Greetins Shirley!! (£11)* - a clear base jam-packed with gold specks-. It's like golden tinsel in a bottle, perfect for the Holiday season.

Mi sto lentamente facendo strada nel mucchio di nuovi arrivi nella mia già strabordante scatola degli smalti, ed uno di quelli che sto amando di più ultimamente è Faby The Desert Rose (€13)*, un nudo rosato cremoso che ha quasi un po' l'aria di un fondotinta.
Negli ultimi mesi si è dimostrato un accessorio fidato per mani e piedi. Ho inziato a sfruttarlo in particolare verso fine estate, quando il tempo ha cominciato a dare di matto ed i sandali hanno dovuto cedere il passo alle scarpe chiuse, ma volevo comunque tenermi pronta e sfoggiare piedi nudi ogni qual volta il tempo lo avesse permesso; la formula molto resistente è stata di grandissimo aiuto in questo senso ed il colore passepartout si abbina davvero con tutto. Visto che il tono è lievemente più scuro del mio incarnato, dona sì quell'effetto manichino che trovo sempre molto elegante, ma senza avere quell'aria strana ed artificilale che possono avere smalti nudi troppo chiari. Trovo tra l'altro che questi colori stiano particolarmente bene su unghie corte e squadrate, perchè fanno sembrare dita ed unghie più lunghe ed affusolate e per questo è diventato il mio smalto preferito per il lavoro.

The Desert Rose è cremoso ma si stende in modo uniforme e senza striature. La formula dura a lungo e non si scheggia facilmente, è coprente in una sola passata e grazie al pennello flessibile si applica che è un piacere.

Qui ho voluto renderlo un po' più speciale per un evento e l'ho accoppiato ad un accent ottenuto con un pizzico di Faby Season's Greetins Shirley!! (€13)* della nuova collezione Eclectic - una base trasparente in cui sono immerse tantissime pagliuzze dorate -. E' come un festone dorato in bottiglia, perfetto per le Feste in arrivo.

Notd: Chanel May

Chanel Le Vernis May £18/€22

My hands have a slight yellow undertone, so maybe that's the reason why I don't wear pink polish too often and I struggle to find shades I like on me, despite it being my favorite color.

Luckily this is one of those perfect shades that suit everyone. Sometimes it gets lost in my nail polish box, forgotten even, but when it resurfaces it's love all over again.

Chanel May was released last year for spring but it was added to the permanent line right away. It's a warm petal pink with jelly finish. It's not too bright or clashing, just one of those universally flattering shades that are fresh and young but also elegant and timeless at once.
The formula is the usual Chanel one. It might look sheer at first but it goes perfectly opaque with the second coat and lasts up to 6 days on me. The brush is on the small side but the formula is light and runny enough to flow easily on the nail. It's actually one of the most fool-proof formulas out there, because it's self-leveling and doesn't look streaky.

At £18 a pop it's not a cheap polish and it isn't the most unique shade in the range, but it's a lovely work-safe nail varnish and you pay for what you get. If you want to treat yourself with a Chanel polish and want to play a bit safe I highly recommend May.

Sarà per il leggero sottotono giallo delle mie mani ma, nonostante sia uno dei miei colori preferiti, non indosso smalti rosa molto spesso e faccio fatica a trovare un punto di rosa che mi convinca davvero.

Fortunatamente questa è una di quelle tonalità che stanno bene a tutti. Capita che si perda nel caos che regna nella mia scatola degli smalti, e che a volte venga persino dimenticato, ma ogni volta che salta fuori è di nuovo amore.

Chanel May fa parte dei lanci primaverili dell'anno scorso, ma per fortuna la maison ha pensato bene di aggiungerlo fin da subito alla linea permanente. E' un rosa petalo caldo con un finish lucido. Non è troppo acceso e non salta troppo all'occhio; è una di quelle tonalità che donano a tutti e che riescono ad essere fresche e giovani, ma anche eleganti e senza tempo, in cui il marchio si è specializzato.
La formula è quella tipica degli smalti Chanel. Può sembrare trasparente ma diventa opaca alla seconda passata e dura fino a 6 giorni sulle mie unghie. Il pennello è piccolino ma lo smalto è abbastanza liquido da stendersi con facilità e, visto che tendono di default a distribuirsi uniformemente sull'unghia, gli smalti Chanel restano tra i più semplici da applicare.

22€ non sono pochi e questa non è la colorazione più originale della linea, però è adatta a tutte le occasioni e la qualità vale il prezzo. Se state pensando di regalarvi uno smalto Chanel, ma non vi sentite troppo coraggiose, vi raccomando caldamente May. E' un classico ma è perfetto per la stagione, e visto che il tempo sembra deciso a non collaborare, sarà meglio indossarla 'sta primavera, va'.

Notd: Essie Bikini so teeny

Essie Bikini so teeny £8.99/€12 - 2 coats

Some shades make instantly spring and Bikini so teeny is definitely one of those.
It's a light sky blue with a bit of a lilac undertone and tiny silver glitters that you can only notice from up close. It's such a weird color, both bright and muted at once, like it's trying to be neon and dusty at the same time. It's one of the coolest nail polishes I own; I don't think there's anything quite like this on the market.
Application is a bit of a nightmare, but some reviews I found online make me think I picked up a jinxed bottle, 'cause no one else seems to find the formula a bit weird. The first layer goes on streaky and blotchy no matter how careful I am. It's quite frustrating actually; it's so pretty but it looks almost beyond hope. But then somehow the second layer goes on smoothly and evens out everything. It's definitely worth the effort I think; it's such a beautiful shade, but, ew, it's also flipping annoying.
Once you go past the application issues is a lovely shade. It lasts up to 7 days on my nails like other Essie polishes and it's an absolute showstopper. It's one of my favorite nail polishes for spring and summer and I'd love to see it in the permanent line, maybe reformulated and with the new brush.

Alcuni colori fanno immediatamente primavera e Bikini so teeny è sicuramente uno di questi.
Si tratta di un azzurro cielo, con una punta di lilla e finissimi brillantini argentati che però si notano soltanto da molto vicino. E' davvero stranissimo perchè è allo stesso tempo brillante ed attenuato, come se l'azzurro provasse ad essere contemporaneamente polvere e neon. E' uno degli smalti più unici che possiedo; non credo esista un colore davvero simile a Bikini sul mercato.

L'applicazione è un piccolo incubo, ma dopo aver letto alcune recensioni online mi è venuto il dubbio di aver acquistato una bottiglietta sfortunata, perchè nessun'altro sembra riscontrare il mio stesso problema con la formula. La prima mano, non importa quanta calma e attenzione ci metta, risulta striata e poco uniforme. Frustrante a dir poco, perchè è un colore fantastico ma sembra quasi senza speranza. La seconda mano però si stende che è una meraviglia e copre ogni imperfezione per un risultato perfetto. Non me lo spiego. Vale senz'altro lo sforzo, però accidenti che fatica!
Un volta superato il problema applicazione, è magnifico. Sulle mie unghie dura 7 giorni e più come gli altri smalti Essie ed è uno di quegli smalti che tutti notano e che attira complimenti come pochi altri. Adorerei vederlo nella linea permanente, magari riformulato e con il nuovo pennello, perchè è uno dei miei smalti preferiti per questa stagione.

Notd: Illamasqua Fragile

Illamasqua Fragile nail varnish £14.50/€17.30

This nail polish is so pretty! I can't believe I thought I didn't need it in my life when it first came out.
Fragile is a pale dusty blue base packed with matte black glitters in different sizes and shapes. Illamasqua really outdid itself this time; this polish is a pure work of art: the base is on the right side of sheer and the glitters gradually float and sink between the different layers for an amazing depth. The density of the glitters is absolutely perfect, not too sparse and not too crowded. Pastel formulas can be hard to work with and streaky but Fragile applies heavenly and it's opaque in two coats.
Illamasqua varnishes are some of the longest lasting polishes out there: I can easily get up to 10 days of wear without chipping and this shade is no exception. They're not cheap polishes but both quality and uniqueness of the shade range are definitely worth the splurge.
Fragile is one of the five speckled polishes part of the I'mperfection Spring 2013 collection. I do believe it's a permanent shade but I wouldn't want to miss out on this one if I were you.
I can't stop staring at my nails! I really love Fragile and now I'm so tempted to purchase the other speckled shades. Send help!

Guardate quant'è bello! Non posso credere di averlo liquidato con un 'non mi serve' quando è uscito.
Fragileè un azzurro polvere chiaro arricchito con tantissimi glitter opachi neri di diverse forme e misure. Illamasqua si è davvero superata questa volta; questo smalto è un'opera d'arte: la base lattiginosa è trasparente quanto basta per creare un effetto multidimensionale con i glitter che affondano e riemergono tra i diversi strati. I glitter non sono troppo affollati nè troppo sparsi, la densità è semplicemente perfetta. Di solito le formule pastello sono un incubo da applicare, perchè sono spesse e poco uniformi, ma Fragile è uno spettacolo da stendere ed è opaco in due passate.
Gli smalti Illamasqua sono probabilmente gli smalti più a lunga durata che mi sia capitato di provare: di norma riesco ad arrivare fino a 10 giorni senza sbeccature e questo non fa eccezione. Non sono smalti economici, però credo che la qualità e l'unicità delle tonalità giustifichino la spesa tranquillamente.
Fragile è uno dei 5 smalti 'lentigginosi' parte della collezione primaverlie I'mperfection. Credo che sia permanente, ma se fossi in voi non vorrei rischiare.
Giuro, non riesco a smettere di fissarmi le mani! Fragile mi piace davvero tanto ed ora sono tentatissima di recuperare gli altri 4 smalti della linea. Aiuto!

Adoro l'effetto uovo di rondine; è così unico e primaverile. Ed è il look perfetto per il coniglio pasquale, non vi pare?

Notd: Essie Navigate her

I'm going through an Essie phase, can you tell?

Yesterday I realized that S. Patrick's day was approaching and I thought it was the perfect occasion to wear green nail polish, just to be safe from pinches and Leprechauns, you know.
Navigate her is one of my favorite greens for spring/summer and it's also one of the most unique Essie polishes. Along with A crewed interest, it was part of the namesake collection for Spring 2012 but it can still be found online (Cultbeautydoesn't have it in stock right know but it's on sale for half the price just to name one). It's definitely different from your usual greens. This guacamole shade is fresh but not too bright and in your face and the delicate yellow undertone makes it quite original. The formula is creamy and very pigmented. First coat can be a little streaky but the second coat evens everything out, thanks to the new brush - I love this brush! I could write poems and songs about it - that applies smoothly and flawlessly.
To spice it up a bit I added a little clover for good luck. Nothing especially complex or groundbreaking, but I think it adds a nice touch. I used MAC Vestral white which is awful as full-on nail polish but it's perfect for nail arts, since it's a super opaque chalk shade.

Sono in piena fase Essie, si vede?
Mi sono ricordata giusto ieri di San Patrizio ed ho pensato fosse l'occasione perfetta per sfoggiare uno smalto verde, giusto per stare al sicuro da pizzicotti e leprecauni.
Navigate her è uno dei miei verdi preferiti per la primavera estate ed anche uno degli smalti Essie più unici. Faceva parte, insieme a A crewed interest, dell'omonima collezione primaverile del 2012 ma in giro si trova ancora (Cultbeauty al momento non ce l'ha in stock, ma lo vende a metà prezzo per esempio). E' un verde guacamole un po' diverso dal solito, fresco ma non troppo brillante ed il delicato sottotono giallo lo rende davvero particolare. La formula è cremosa e super pigmentata. La prima passata può risultare poco uniforme ma alla seconda passata il nuovo pennello - lo adoro! potrei scrivere canzoni e poesie su questo pennello - consente un'applicazione rapida e priva di problemi che sistema ogni imperfezione.
Ci ho aggiunto anche un piccolo quadrifoglio, per buona fortuna. Niente di straordinariamente complesso o innovativo, ma credo aggiunga un grazioso tocco in più. Ho usato MAC Vestral white che è tremendo da usare su tutta l'unghia ma perfetto per le nail art perchè è un bianco gesso super opaco.

Notd: Essie Not just a pretty face ft NYX Sparkles

I know, I know. Another gradient nail look. Uh, sorry?
The thing is I really wanted to try this pretty glitter mix but I didn't feel like doing a full-on glitter nail thing, since I'm not usually much of a silver girl.
And I'm slightly obsessed with gradients, okay. They're such a nice, easy way to spice up a plain nail varnish and look effortlessly elegant, I think.

NYX Sparkles* is a nice mix of small light silver glitters. It's thin enough that can be used both as a top coat and a solid glitter polish and could easily reach full opacity in 3 coats. The glitters spread nicely and the texture doesn't feel gritty.
For the base I picked one of the 'nail-growth' shades in my collection. I call those like that because if one of my nails breaks and I have to shorten them all - aw, shucks! -, with this kind of shades I can still look polished and tidy without attracting to much attention to my short nails, since I'm not a fan of brights and dark shades on too short finger-nails.

Essie Not just a pretty face is a light neutral pink with jelly finish. It's quite sheer and the tiny brush doesn't help much with the coverage: I had to apply 3 thin layers to cover the half-moons but I like the result nonetheless. It's the kind of office-safe nail polish that we all have in our collections; you might call it boring, but you know I like my nudes.

Against all expectations, because I tend to reach for golds and warmer shades instead of silver, I really like the final result. The pink and silver mix feels sweet and dreamy without being boring.
How do you feel about glitter gradients? Yay or nay?

Lo so, lo so. Un altro look con gradiente glitter. Chiedo scusa...
Il problema è che volevo proprio provare questo grazioso mix di glitter, ma non mi piaceva l'idea di un effetto glitter pieno, visto che non amo tantissimo l'argento.
E poi sono ossessionata dai gradienti, va bene. Trovo che siano un modo facile e veloce per rendere speciale uno smalto non troppo particolare ed ottenere un effetto elegante senza sforzo.

NYX Sparkles* è un grazioso mix di piccoli glitter argento chiaro. E' molto fluido, per cui non crea spessore e si può utilizzare tranquillamente sia come top coat sia come smalto glitter pieno, che risulta opaco in 3 passate. I glitter si spargono in modo uniforme ed una volta asciutto non ha una texture sabbiosa.
Per la base ho scelto uno dei colori 'da ricrescita' della mia collezione. Li chiamo così perchè sono colori discreti, perfetti per quando mi si spezza un unghia e - mannaggia! - sono costretta ad accorciarle tutte, perchè garantiscono un effetto curato senza attirare troppo l'attenzione sulle unghie corte; non mi piacciono proprio gli smalti accesi o scuri sulle unghie.

Not just a pretty face di Essie è un rosa chiaro neutro con finish jelly. E' piuttosto trasparente ahimè, ed il pennellino piccolo piccolo non è particolarmente d'aiuto: per raggiungere questa opacità mi ci sono volute 3 passate ma il risultato mi piace comunque. E' quel genere di colore-da-ufficio che tutte abbiamo nella nostra collezione; noioso, direte voi, ma sapete che adoro gli smalti effetto nudo.

Contro ogni previsione, visto che di solito preferisco oro ed altri colori caldi all'argento, il risultato finale mi è piaciuto tantissimo e so già che sfrutterò molto questa combinazione.

Notd: Estee Lauder Dilettante

Estee Lauder Pure color nail laquer in Dilettante £14.50/€20.50

I have to admit Estee Lauder is not the first brand I think about when I want to buy a makeup product for myself. For long time this brand has been a byword for 'middle-aged lady' for me, with its classy packaging and mild, sophisticated shades. Lately tho I observed an effort to reach a younger public, through brighter shades and modern textures. And the latest Spring release is one of their most successful attempts in this direction.

Heavy petals is a nail polish collection inspired by Paris in full bloom, with 5 lovely pastel shades that remind me of decadent macaroons and hard candies. All 5 polishes are very pretty but one shade really stood out to me from the start.

Dilettante is a gorgeous turquoise blue creme; it's the perfect mix of blue and green, so different from anything I own. It makes me want to pull out coral jewelry and big sunglasses. Such a perfect shade for spring and summer! The first layer was a bit streaky but the second coat evened everything out. The consistency is quite tick and creamy, smooth and highly pigmented. It's definitely on the pricey side but from time to time is nice to indulge in something more unique and luxurious. Look how pretty the squared glass packaging is!
Overall a very nice nail polish and I can see myself reaching for it a lot in the next months.

Devo ammettere che Estee Lauder non è esattamente il primo marchio che mi salta alla mente quando devo comprare un prodotto makeup per me stessa. Per molto tempo questo brand è stato sinonimo di 'signora elegante e di mezza età' per me, per via del packaging raffinato e le tonalità blande e sofisticate. Tuttavia recentemente ho osservato un tentativo di raggiungere un pubblico più giovane, attraverso colori più vivaci e texture moderne. Ed il lancio primaverile di questi giorni è uno dei tentativi più riusciti in questa direzione.

Heavy petals è una collezione di smalti ispirati alla primavera parigina, con 5 deliziose tonalità pastello che mi fanno pensare a dolcissimi macaroons e caramelle dure. La scelta sarebbe stata davvero difficile se uno smalto in particolare non avessse attirato la mia attenzione fin dall'inizio.

Dilettante è un bellissimo turchese cremoso; il mix perfetto di verde e blu, così diverso da qualunque altro smalto della mia collezione. Mi fa venir voglia di tirare fuori dal cassetto accessori di corallo e grandi occhiali da sole. Un colore perfetto per la primavera-estate!
La prima mano tende ad essere poco uniforme, ma una seconda passata rende tutto più omogeneo. La consistenza è abbastanza densa e cremosa, molto pigmentata e setosa. Il prezzo è un po' altino, ma ogni tanto fa bene concedersi un prodotto unico e lussuoso come questo. Insomma, quanto è bella la bottiglia quadrata?
Tutto sommato è un ottimo smalto e so già che lo indosserò spessissimo nei mesi a venire.

Notd: Essie A crewed interest with glitter gradient

Essie A crewed interest £8.99/€12 - 2 coats

The other day I was rummaging in my nail polish box and I discovered this little, still-untouched, gem. 

A crewed interest was part of the Essie 2012 spring collection but it's still pretty easy to find online, in fact I purchased mine for a ridiculous 2£ price tag during a sale a couple of months ago. 

It's a creamy neutral peach, very spring-ish and versatile. Definitely not a ground breaking color, but it's easy-to-wear and quite flattering since there's not too much white in it. What really makes it noteworthy tho is the brush. 

I've heard my fellow British bloggers swear by the new Essie brush before but this is the first time I got to try it. It's very similar to the Dior one - which is the best nail polish applicator I've ever tried -, just a bit more flexible and slightly squared. I expected a creamy nail polish such as this one to apply a little streaky but the brush made application easy and even in pretty much one coat. Essie was already one of my favorite nail polish brands but with the new brush is seriously making a bid for the top 3.

To spiced it up a little I added a bit of Nicole by OPI Disco dolls - a fine antique gold glitter mix with bigger rainbow accents - and a light sprinkle of MAC Gold glitter but it's a really lovely shade on its own.

Are you still rocking your favorite winter shades or you're feeling the need for some spring colors like I am?

L'altro giorno mi sono ricordata di questo acquisto abbastanza recente, che però non avevo ancora provato e visto che avevo bisogno di combattere il grigiore invernale l'ho messo subito al lavoro.

A crewed interest è parte della collezione Essie per la primavera 2012, ma è ancora abbastanza facile da reperire online; infatti l'ho acquistato per poco più di 2€ durante i saldi un paio di mesi fa.

Si tratta di un pesca neutro e cremoso, molto primaverile e versatile. Non è un colore particolare o diverso dal solito, ma è facile da abbinare e non contiene una quantità eccessiva di bianco, quindi non stacca troppo sull'incarnato. Il pennello al contrario è davvero degno di nota.

E' da un bel po' che sento le mie colleghe inglesi osannare il nuovo pennello Essie  (che fino a poco tempo fa pareva un'esclusiva di Boots), e finalmente ho avuto la possibilità di provarlo anche io. Assomiglia molto a quello di Dior - che è il migliore che abbia mai provato -, solo più flessibile e squadrato. Mi sarei aspettata che uno smalto così cremoso fosse difficile da applicare in modo uniforme, ma il pennello fa il suo dovere e si stende alla perfezione in una sola passata. Essie era già uno dei miei marchi preferiti ma con questo nuovo pennello potrebbe entrare tranquillamente nella mia top 3.

Per un po' di brio ho aggiunto una spolverata di glitter Gold di MAC ed una passata leggera di Disco dolls di Nicole by OPI - un mix abbastanza opaco di glitter finissimi oro antico con accenti arcobaleno -, ma A crewed interest è gradevole anche da solo.

State ancora indossando le vostre tonalità invernali preferite o come me sentire il bisogno di un po' di primavera?

Notd: butter LONDON Tart with a heart

Tart with a heart is one of my favorite top coats. It's perfect on top of everything really, but I find that it complements nude polishes like nothing else (here I wore it on top of Essie Topless & barefoot). It's a gorgeous mix of pale gold, copper and rose gold microglitters - even some black ones here and there - and some bigger almost-holographic opalescent round glitters.

The glitter particles are a little sparse but it's mostly opaque in 3 coats. The formula is thin and easy to apply, and the glitters spread out nicely and without gapes. Unfortunately it's quite weak and chips easily but it could be the Nail foundation's fault.

Anyways I really like this glitter mix; I just need to find a way to make it more long-lasting and chip resistant. The golden-beige tones make it very subtle and elegant but when the light hits the nail the right way it's party time!

Tart with a heart è uno dei miei top coat preferiti. Sta bene con qualcunque smalto per dirla tutta, ma a me piace particolarmente sopra agli smalti effetto nudo perchè li complementa molto bene (qui l'ho indossato come accent insieme a Essie Topless & barefoot). E' un fantastico mix di microglitter nei colori oro pallido, rame e oro rosa - con qualche lustrino nero qui e là - e glitter rotondi più grandi dai toni oplaescenti e quasi olografici.

I brillantini sono un po' sparsi ma se usato come smalto è quasi opaco in 3 passate. La formula è molto liquida e sottile, per cui è facile da stendere e non crea uno spessore eccessivo. Ed i glitter si distribuiscono in maniera uniforme, senza lasciare buchi. Purtroppo si scheggia facilmente, ma potrebbe essere colpa del Nail foundation sempre di butter LONDON che ho usato per la prima volta come base coat.

Tutto sommato questo mix di brillantini mi piace tantissimo, ora devo solo trovare il modo di renderlo più resistente di modo che duri più a lungo. La tonalità beige dorata è molto elegante e sobria, ma quando la luce colpisce le unghie col giusto angolo è tutta un'esplosione oro e pastello. Bellissimo!

Dior Gris trianon nail polish €20.90 - 1 coat plus topcoat

I love greys so much but unfortunately it's a real performance finding a flattering, not-too-dark grey nail polish. Grey is a very unusual shade for spring so I was very pleased to see a stone shade in the Dior Spring 2013 collection.

To be fair Gris trianon looked a little lighter in the promo pictures but I love this shade nonetheless. It's a creamy cement grey, very elegant and sophisticated. In artificial light I can definitely see some lilac hues - it makes me think of a darker version of Chanel Frenzy -, but in natural light is mostly neutral.
Application was effortless. I experienced some minor bubbling on the first two nails but that could have been my fault since I had to get used to the brush. The applicator is a work of art itself: the brush is flat, tapered at the end and quite stiff. It fans nicely on the nail making the spreading quick and precise. Easily the best nail polish brush I've worked with.
The nail polish itself is creamy, not to thick not too runny and pretty much a one coater. This is my first Dior varnish and I'm very impressed with the quality. I'm definitely going to try some more. Incognito looks really lovely.

Grey varnishes aren't for everyone, but I know the neutral lovers will appreciate it, just as much as who's on the market for something different but still elegant and office-appropriate.

Adoro in grigi in ogni salsa ma fino ad ora ho avuto qualche problema a trovare uno smalto grigio, che non fosse troppo scuro e donasse al mio incarnato. Tra l'altro si tratta di un colore molto inusuale per la primavera, per cui sono stata sorpresa di trovare uno smalto grigio all'interno della collezione più recente di Dior.

Sinceramente Gris trianon sembrava un po' più chiaro nelle immagini promozionali della collezione Chérie bow, ma mi piace comunque moltissimo. Si tratta di un grigio cemento cremoso, molto elegante e sofisticato. Con un'illuminazione artificiale si nota una punta di lilla - mi fa pensare vagamente ad una versione più scura di Chanel Frenzy -, ma alla luce naturale mi sembra abbastanza neutro.
L'applicazione è stata semplicissima. Ho notato un paio di minuscole bollicine sulle prime due unghie che ho dipinto, ma potrebbe essere stata colpa mia visto che ho dovuto prendere la mano con il pennello. L'applicatore è superbo: il pennellino è piatto, arrotondato in punta e quasi rigido. Le setole si aprono uniformemente sull'unghia rendendo la diffusione dello smalto veloce e molto precisa. Si tratta senza dubbio del miglior pennellino da smalto che abbia mai utilizzato.
Lo smalto in sè è cremoso, non troppo denso nè troppo liquido e praticamente opaco in una sola passata. E' il mio primo smalto Dior ed in tutta onestà non mi aspettavo una qualità del genere. Sono piacevolmente colpita e sicuramente proverò altre tonalità; Incognito in particolare sembra adorabile.

Gris trianon non è un colore che piacerà a tutte, ma so che le appassionate di smalti neutri lo apprezzeranno, così come chi è in cerca di qualcosa di diverso dal solito ma comunque raffinato.

Notd: OPI Teenage dream

OPI Teenage dream 3 coats €13.90

I did a little shopping my stash recently and emerged from my nail polish box with a couple of too long neglected gems. This one I had to slap on right away.
Teenage dream is one of my favorite glitter polishes. Maybe not my all time favorite but definitely in my top 3. It's a dreamy mix of fine light pink glitters and bigger holographic ones suspended in a clear base. Like Glitter in the air, this shade reminds me of unicorns and fairy dust. It's feminine and delicate but with a fun twist.
The nail polish is jam-packed with glitter particles and it's opaque in 3-4 coats. I don't find it dries particularly gritty. It has a nice frosted, sugary finish but I like to apply a glossy top coat on top of my glitter polishes to increase the sparkling effect and level any unevenness that might remain.

I know this shade is long gone but I saw a couple of bottles on sale on ebay for a decent, not to crazy price in case you missed it. How nice would it be if OPI did a remake collection with all the limited edition best-sellers? A girl can dream... I wonder if there's any dupe for this shade; please, let me know in the comments.

Di recente ho dato una sistemata alla mia collezione di smalti e sono riemersa dalla scatola in cui li tengo con un paio di gemme che trascuravo da troppo tempo. Non ho saputo resistere e questa qui l'ho dovuta applicare immediatamente.
Teenage dream è uno dei miei smalti glitter preferiti. Non saprei dire se il mio preferito di sempre, ma di certo rientra nella top 3. E' un mix incantevole di finissimi glitter rosa pallido e brillantini olografici più grandi. Proprio come Glitter in the air, questo smalto mi fa venire in mente unicorni e polvere di fata. E' femminile e delicato, ma con un tocco divertente ed inaspettato.
E' pienissimo di glitter, per cui è opaco in 3-4 passate. La texture non è troppo irregolare. Una volta asciutto assume un grazioso finish zigrinato e zuccheroso, ma mi piace applicare comunque un top coat lucidante sopra ai miei smalti glitter per incrementare il luccichio e livellare eventuali irregolarità.

So che ormai questa tonalità è sold out da un po' ma ho visto che ci sono un paio di bottiglie in vendita su ebay a prezzi umani, nel caso ve lo siate perso. Pensate che bello se OPI proponesse una collezione remake con gli smalti ad edizione limitata più venduti. Sognare non costa nulla... Per caso sapete se esiste un dupe per questo smalto?

Notd: Easy peasy Christmas nail design

Orly mini Prince charming // Ciaté mini Cookies and cream // Ciaté mini Mistress

There's nothing better than a Christmassy nail art to get in the Holiday mood. For the occasion I decided to use two of the beautiful shades I found inside my Ciaté Advent calendar: Mistress is a gorgeous fire truck red while Cookies and cream is a creamy milky nude. And to complete the design I grabbed another mini polish, this time by Orly, that I got free with a magazine a couple of months ago.
The Rudolph design is super easy and was inspired by some cute Christmas cookies I came across while browsing the internet for some recipes. You just need a dotting tool (a bobby pin will also do) and a tiny nail art brush, but you can make do with a toothpick. It doesn't have to be neat, just have fun with it. It's an ideal last minute nail art.

Are you doing anything special to your nails for tomorrow? What nail polish did you pick for Christmas day? I think I'll take Rudolph off because he's a little worn out after a whole week on my claws and apply the ultra festive red glitter polish I found behind today's door.

Non c'è niente di meglio di una nail art natalizia per entrare nello spirito delle feste. Per l'occasione ho deciso di utilizzare  due degli smalti che ho trovato nel Calendario dell'Avvento Ciatè: Mistress è un bellissimo rosso camion dei pompieri mentre Cookies and cream è un nudo color caffelatte. E per completare il design ho scelto un altro mini, questa volta di Orly, che avevo trovato in Tu style un paio di mesi fa.
Rudolph è facilissimo da dipingere sulle unghie, bastano un dotting tool (ma anche una forcina può andare) ed un pennellino per nail art sottile, oppure uno stuzzicadenti. Non deve essere perfetto, divertitevi e basta. Il design è stato ispirato da alcuni biscotti che ho scovato su internet mentre cercavo delle ricette per il cenone ed è perfetto per una nail art dell'ultimo minuto.

Avete in mente qualcosa di speciale da fare alle vostre unghie per domani? Avete già scelto il vostro smalto? Io toglierò Rudolph, che si è un po' rovinato dopo una settimana intera sulle mie mani, e penso proprio che metterò il favoloso smalto rosso glitter che ho trovato dietro l'ultima porticina del calendario.

They can be cut to size and you get enough for a whole manicure plus a couple of accents.

I can't wait for the right occasion to sport the lace Eye tattoo, and even if black eyeliner is pretty simple to do once you nailed the technique, the liner sheet is like a ready-to-slap-on emergency kit to keep in a drawer for a last minute occasion. Always ready, like the Marines.

Aspetto solo la giusta occasione per sfoggiare i tatuaggi effetto pizzo che vanno così tanto di moda ultimamente, e anche se l'eyeliner nero è piuttosto basic mi piace l'idea di un kit di emergenza da tenere nel cassetto per gli inviti dell'ultimo minuto. Sempre pronti, come i Marines.

Notd: Illamasqua Glitterati

I struggled with my camera for a good hour trying to take a picture that would do justice to this glorious shade, but I'm afraid I couldn't fully capture its complexity.

Illamasqua Glitterati nail polish, part of the Limited edition  Nail duo Viridian & Glitterati £24 - here.

Glitterati is a deep raspberry red with tons of multi-colored holographic glitters in different sizes. There's a lot going on in the dark jelly base between super tiny micro-glitters, micro-glitters, round pink and hexagonal holographic chunks; they mostly flash pink at first but when the light catches the holo particles in the right way there's a sudden rainbow spark. It's absolutely stunning.

As usual the formula was great, after all Illamasqua polishes are some of the best on the market. Glitterati is mostly opaque in one coat, but two coats allow to create a gorgeous multi-dimensional effect, with some glitters sunk in the jelly base and some that gradually float on top. Can you tell I'm in love?
The glitters spread evenly and there's plenty of them in each coat since they're perfectly mingled with the base.

I have one complaint tho: Glitterati comes in a set with Viridian, a lovely metallic peacock green part of the permanent range, which I already owned. I don't mind a dupe, 'cause Viridian is one of my favorite polishes, but I'd rather be able to buy another individual Glitterati, since it's limited edition. I really hope is going to become part of the permanent line. It's the perfect shade for the Holiday season, but I'd totally wear it all year round.

Ho passato quasi un'ora a fare foto cercando di rendere giustizia a questa meraviglioso smalto, ma temo di non aver catturato appieno la sua complessità.
Glitterati è un rosso lampone scuro con tantissimi glitter olografici e multicolore di diverse dimensioni. Lo smalto in sè è molto complesso: nella base jelly sono immersi minuscoli micro-glitter, micro-glitter più grandi, brillantini rotondi rosa ed esagonali olografici; ad una prima occhiata sembrano tutti rosa, ma quando la luce colpisce le particelle holo nel modo giusto si notano dei bagliori arcobaleno. Davvero sbalorditivo.

Come sempre la formula è fantastica, dopotutto gli smalti Illamasqua sono tra i migliori disponibili sul mercato. Glitterati è praticamente opaco in una sola passata, ma due mani permettono di ottenere un effetto multi-dimensionale strepitoso, con alcuni glitter affondati nella base ed altri che gradualmente riemergono in superficie. Si capisce che lo adoro?
I glitter si distribuiscono in maniera uniforme ed il pennello ne raccoglie sempre abbastanza, visto che sono perfettamente amalgamati con la base.

Ho solo una lamentela: Glitterati è solo disponibile come parte di un duo ad edizione limitata per Natale, insieme a Viridian, un bellissimo verde pavone metallizzato che è parte della linea permanente e che io avevo già. Visto che Viridian è uno dei mie smalti preferiti, non mi scoccia più di tanto avere un doppione, ma mi piacerebbe poter acquistare individualmente un back-up di Glitterati, da tenere di scorta. Spero che Illamasqua si metta una mano sul cuore e lo aggiunga alla linea permanente, perchè, anche se è lo smalto perfetto per le Feste, io lo indosserei senza problemi per tutto l'anno.

After years of honorable service, I decided to dismiss those beloved, old calendars full of chocolate and chubby cherubs, and bring the thing to a whole new level. No more Santa shaped pralines for me, but wee baby bottles with tiny ribbons, cause, as Ciaté remind us, a nail polish a day keeps the doctor away. Ancient wisdom, you guys. See for yourself.

Somewhere behind the 24 doors there are 17 best selling mini paint pots - I spotted a double in the preview on the back, but I can't really complain for extra cookies and cream, especially when it's cold outside -, 4 mini caviar pearls blends and 3 mysterious shades made exclusively for this gift.
With this calendar I probably gave the death blow to my let's-not-buy anymore-nail-polishes New Year resolution, but my figure will definitely thank me.

Dopo anni di onorato servizio, quest'anno ho deciso di mandare in pensione i cari vecchi calendari pieni di cioccolatini ed angioletti cicciottelli e tirare fuori l'artiglieria pesante. Niente più praline a forma di Babbi Natale sorridenti per me, ma graziose baby bottigliette infiocchettate, perchè, come ci ricorda Ciaté, uno smalto al giorno toglie il medico di torno. Perle di antica saggezza, ragazze. Provare per credere.

Da qualche parte dietro ai 24 sportellini si nascondono 17 mini paint pots scelti tra le tonalità più vendute - nella preview sul retro ho avvistato un doppione, ma non posso veramente lamentarmi per extra
cookies and cream, soprattutto quando le temperature si abbassano -, 4 mix di perline per la famosa caviar manicure e 3 tonalità misteriose ed esclusive, create apposta per questo set.
Con il calendario credo di aver dato il colpo di grazia definitivo al mio proposito di inizio d'anno che puntava a limitare al minimo la mia shopping mania per gli smalti, ma almeno la linea ringrazia.
Ecco, concentriamoci sui lati positivi.

Il Mini mani month al momento è sold out dappertutto tranne che sul sito Ciaté UK, che tra l'altro offre il 10% di sconto sul primo acquisto, ma spese di spedizione abbastanza esorbitanti. Per pochissimo è stato disponibile su QVC e non sembrano intenzionati a riassortire; e per le più temerarie c'è sempre eBay.

Ora scappo! E' il momento di sbirciare dietro alla porta numero 1...

Notd: China Glaze Fast track

China Glaze fast track £6.75/€6.50 2 coats

Fast track is a creamy toffee beige packed with gold glitter and some green and copper holographic flecks that my camera couldn’t pick out. In the bottle it looks like a mushroom-y taupe but dries slightly warmer, like pale caramel. It’s absolutely gorgeous and a nice take on the usual nude nails but with an interesting twist. The coverage is surprisingly good for a neutral and it’s completely opaque in just two coats. Application was a little tricky only because the brush tends to pick up too much product but the issue can be easily fixed with lighter and more careful strokes. Like all China glaze varnishes, Fast track has a firm but flexible rounded brush and it’s 3-free.

This nail polish is part of the Capitol Colors collection, which is inspired by the Hunger games trilogy – go read the books if you haven’t already! – and was released around March; each shade represents one of the 12 Districts of the dystopian world described in the books and Fast track is supposedly inspired by District 6 Transportation. I’m so glad I was still able to find it after all these months, because it was one of the two shades that really caught my eyes back then. Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to put my hands on the extra pretty Luxe & Lush flaky top coat as well. Fingers crossed.

Fast track è una base cremosa color caramella mou piena di glitter dorati ed alcuni brillantini olografici verdi e rame, che però la macchina fotografica non è riuscita a cogliere. Nella bottiglia sembra un color talpa che tende vagamente al color fungo, mentre durante l’asciugatura si scalda e vira lievemente al caramello chiaro. E’ assolutamente favoloso ed una buona opzione per chi ama l’effetto nudo ma con quel qualcosa in più. La coprenza è sorprendentemente buona per uno smalto neutro e sono necessarie solo 2 mani per la completa opacità.  L’applicazione richiede un po’ di attenzione perché il pennellino preleva troppo prodotto, ma basta stendere lo smalto con cura e mano leggera. Come tutti gli smalti China glaze, Fast track ha un applicatore solido ma flessibile e leggermente arrotondato ed è 3-free.

Questo smalto è parte della collezione Capitol colors, che si ispira alla trilogia di The Hunger games – correte a leggervi i libri se non l’avete ancora fatto! – ed uscita lo scorso marzo; ogni tonalità rappresenta uno dei 12 Distretti del mondo distopico decritto nei libri e Fast track è lo smalto del Distretto 6, quello dei trasporti. Sono contentissima di aver trovato questo smalto, nonostante sia passato tanto tempo dall’uscita della collezione, perché è uno dei due colori che ha fin da subito attirato la mia attenzione. Con un po’ di fortuna dovrei riuscire a mettere le mani anche sul top coat a scaglie Luxe & Lush. Incrociamo le dita.

Notd: OPI I don't give a Rotterdam!

OPI I don't give a Rotterdam! 3 coats €13.90

I don't give a Rotterdam! - which by the way is one of the best names for a nail polish I've ever heard - is a dirty, dusty blue with gold, copper and silver glitters. I like how the creamy base isn't completely opaque but sheer enough to let the glitter particles peek through, giving the polish a nice multi-dimensional effect. I had to apply 3 coats to hide a couple of flaws on the nails - gosh, I hate those random white spots! - but I could have gotten away with two. Texture and dry time were great. It dries to a softly faded finish that I really like, but the misted effect can be easily fixed with a shiny top coat.

It's one of those chip-resistant varnishes that last forever on the nails with only minor tip wear: 6 days so far and still kicking.

I don't give a Rotterdam! was part of the Holland collection but hopefully you'll still be able to find it online. I really like dusty shades like this one; it's such an elegant and fall-ish way to wear colors.

I don't give a Rotterdam! - che detto tra noi è uno dei migliori nomi che abbia mai sentito per uno smalto - è un azzurro sporco o polvere con glitter color oro, rame e argento. La base cremosa non è propriamente opaca ma abbastanza trasparente da lasciare intravedere l'iridescenza, donando una bella multidimensionalità allo smalto. Ho dovuto applicare 3 mani per coprire un paio di imperfezioni - come odio quelle stupide macchiline bianche! - ma 2 sarebbero state sufficienti. La texture ed il tempo di asciugatura sono ottimi. Una volta asciutto si ottiene un finish molto particolare che mi piace molto, un effetto quasi un po' sbiadito o appannato, a cui però si può porre rimedio facilmente con un top coat lucido.

E' uno di quegli smalti super resistenti, che si consumano un pochino in punta, ma non si scheggiano: dopo 6 giorni è ancora perfetto.

I don't give a Rotterdam! è parte della Holland collection ed è ancora disponibile su Sephora.it e nell'online store OPI. Io l'ho acquistato all'Intercharm per merito di A.G. di What's in my bag che lo ha scovato nel mucchio e me lo ha agitato sotto al naso: all'inizio non l'avevo considerato ma visto dal vivo mi ha proprio convinta. In generale mi piacciono tantissimo queste tonalità polverose; trovo che siano un modo molto elegante ed autunnale di indossare i colori.

Notd: butter LONDON Dosh

Soooo, another Notd. It looks like I can only do these kind of posts recently, sorry, but I've been a busy bee during the last weeks, and while I tested many products, I didn't really have the time to sit and write down a decent post. I'll go back to the usual variety in the next days, pinky promise. Now back to business.

Given the name you would expect a dollar green, instead butter LONDON Dosh is a bright yellow based apple green with gold and green shimmer. 

The texture is gorgeous: the shimmer is so finely milled it applies like a cream finish. It was opaque in two coats and lasted 7 days on my nails, with a coat of Sally Hansen nail growth miracle as a base and a tin layer of Seche top coat. To be honest I didn't want to apply a top coat at first, cause Dosh dries to a lovely satinized effect, not quite matte but definitely not glossy. It's quite a unique shade, unlike anything I own.

I went a little nail polish crazy recently, so I won't buy any for a while - if I had a penny for everytime I said it... let's be honest, I'd probably have a penny now cause I'm that bad at saving money - but in the future I plan to buy the well-known Yummy mummy and the most recent UK blogger obsession, Bossy boots, which isn't really a fall-appropriate shade but you know I can't resist to greens. Are there any other butter LONDON must have shades I should add to my wishlist?

So, yay or nay for green nail polishes?

Lo so. Un altro post su uno smalto. Ultimamente sembra che non riesca a scrivere altri post, mi dispiace. Nelle ultime settimane sono stata molto impegnata, e anche se ho testato diversi prodotti di cui vorrei parlarvi, non ho avuto molto tempo per sedermi e scrivere un post decente. Tornerò presto alla solita varietà, promesso, ma basta perdere tempo.

Visto il nome ci si aspetterebbe un color dollaro, invece Dosh è un verde mela brillante a base gialla con shimmer verde e dorato.

La texture è strepitosa: l'iridescenza è così fine che si applica come uno smalto dal finish cremoso. E' opaco in due mani ed è durato 7 giorni con solo uno strato di Sally Hansen nail growth miracle come base ed una mano sottile di top coat Seche. Ad essere onesti all'inizio non volevo applicare il top coat lucidante, perchè una volta asciutto Dosh ha un bellissimo finish satinato, non proprio opaco ma decisamente non glossy. E' una tonalità unica ed originale, non ho niente di simile nella mia collezione.

Recentemente, complice tra l'altro l'Intercharm e per buona pace del mio shopping ban, ho acquistato una marea di smalti, ma non ho intenzione di comprarne altri per un bel po' di tempo - se avessi 1€ per ogni volta che l'ho detto... siamo onesti, probabilmente avrei 1€ euro perchè sono terribile a risparmiare - ma in futuro vorrei acquistare il famoso Yummy mummy e la più recente ossessione delle blogger inglesi, Bossy boots, che non è esattamente un colore autunnale, ma non posso resistere ai verdi.

Ci sono altri smalti butter LONDON che dovrei aggiungere alla mia wishlist secondo voi?

Notd: Ciaté Cookies and cream

The latest addition to my ever-growing nude nail polish collection is Cookies and cream, which is also the first Ciaté polish I got to try. The name is actually quite appropriate for a light creamy nude that looks like a latte macchiato. It's almost opaque in 2 coats. Here I applied 3 to completely conceal the nail line.

The application was smooth and effortless thanks to the large flat brush and the long, lean handle that allows a perfect grip.

The packaging is a beauty itself, stark and basic, with an extra girly twist: the elastic ring with the bow is useless per se but adds that little something that makes the bottle special. Lasts well and doesn't chip easily. Overall it applies and feels like a more expensive polish.

So, first Ciaté nail polish but definitely not the last. The complexion collection looks absolutely stunning and a nice alternative to the Dior nudes. I bought mine on Beautybay that ships internationally.

L'ultimo acquisto della mia infinita collezione di smalti nude è Cookies and cream, che è tra l'altro il primo smalto Ciaté che ho l'occasione di provare. Il nome è molto appropriato per un nudo chiaro e cremoso del colore di un latte macchiato. E' quasi opaco in due passate, ma qui ho applicato 3 mani per coprire completamente la lunetta.

Il pennello piatto e denso ed il cappuccio lungo rendono l'applicazione semplicissima.

Il packaging è davvero grazioso, essenziale ma con quel certo non so che: l'elastico con fiocchetto è inutile di per sè, ma aggiunge un tocco romantico e femminile alla bottiglia, e si può togliere per cui non dà fastidio.

Non si scheggia facilmente ed in generale sembra uno smalto molto più costoso. Sono rimasta piacevolmente colpita.

Il mio primo smalto Ciaté, ma ho la sensazione che non sarà l'ultimo. In particolare la complexion collection sembra interessante ed una buona alternativa ai Nudes di Dior. Il sito UK spedisce in tutto il mondo, ma a prezzi proibitivi; io l'ho acquistato su Beautybay che spedisce gratuitamente.
