Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer spf20 // Laura Mercier Moisture Supréme Foundation // L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint // Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation

001 If you know me a bit by now, you'll know I like my foundations with medium coverage and flawless finish, therefore I don't usually care for tinted moisturizers and such; there are however a few exceptions, with the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free (£33) being one of them. For some reason, despite my dry skin, I never considered the basic one but went straight for the oily/combination skin version, which is wicked in summertime. During my latest visit at the counter the makeup artist insisted I tried the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (£33) and gave me a generous sample of the shade Cameo. This is possibly the most raved product of the range and for me is definitely a hit. It's moisturizing and glowy without being greasy, and it's basically undetectable on the skin. The coverage is sheer - actually lower than what you get with the oil-free alternative - but enough to even out the complexion and cover minor imperfections and scars on lazy days. It lasts about 6 hours on me without powder but I wouldn't expect anything more from this type of product. For me it's a good skin-day kind of base but it's one of the best tinted moisturizers I've tried - second only to its oil-free twin, I think -.

002 The Laura Mercier Moisture Supréme Foundation (£33) is absolutely heart-stopping. It gives a fantastic luminous and perfected look, thanks to its hydrating formula and great pigmentation. The coverage is flawless; this stuff is so highly pigmented I hardly need any concealer at all when I wear it. It gives the illusion of beautiful, incredible skin, which appears to be tighter and fuller, and astonishingly radiant. It stays put all day without sliding around or looking greasy rather than luminous. I dare to say this could be the perfect foundation for dry and mature skins, and ultimately anyone on the market for a medium-high coverage base which is truly moisturizing and long-lasting at the same time. Quick shout-out for Porcelain Ivory which is one of the few yellow-based shades for fair skin tones on the market, and therefore helps correcting redness and discoloration on top of everything else.

003 I've wanted to try this foundation for a very long time, mainly because I've heard someone compare it to the Armani Maestro one. Now that I finally got my mitts on a sample of the L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint (£9.99) I can tell there're some similarities between the two: they both apply seamlessly, leaving the skin velvety soft and completely matte all day with no need for setting powder or a primer underneath. The coverage is easily buildable, depending on which tool is used for the application: it goes from barely-there, light coverage when blended in with fingertips, to medium-high when applied with a sponge or a dense foundation brush, such as the Real Techinques Expert Face (£11.99). Although I personally don't enjoy this opaque finish - which makes my dry skin look even drier, especially in this weather - I do understand why so many people seem to adore this foundation. I do appreciate the lightweight formula and its lasting power and I'll be curious to try it again next summer and see how it holds up in the hot weather; however, by this time I'm not wowed.

004 Powder foundation and dry skin don't go along very well in my experience but as usual Laura Mercier exceeded my expectations. The new Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder (£32) is super soft and extremely finely milled; it goes on so well, smoothing pores and covering imperfections and redness. The color pay-off is great and easily buildable up to medium coverage when used dry or pretty much full when dabbed on with a damp sponge. I feel the best and most natural way to apply it is with a dense yet fluffy brush, such as the Real Techniques Multi-task Brush (part of the Travel Essentials Kit £20.99) to gently work it into the skin and layer it only where needed. It's the kind of foundation that looks better as the day goes by, when some natural oils start breaking through, therefore I think it might be more suitable for normal to oily and combination skins. It's also tremendous for touch-ups on the go because it mattifies the skin and adds a bit of extra coverage as well, without looking cakey or too flat. The color stays true throughout the day and the soft satin finish looks extremely natural despite the powder formula.

001 Con una netta predilezione per le basi a coprenza media, è molto raro che creme colorate ed affini catturino la mia attenzione; ci sono però delle eccezioni ed il Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free (€40) è una di esse. Per qualche motivo, nonostante la mia pelle sia di fatto secca, non ho mai nemmeno lontanamente considerato la versione originale di questo prodotto ma ho acquistato senza battere ciglio quella per pelli grasse e miste - che tra l'altro è magica per l'estate -. Comunque, durante la mia ultima visita al counter alla Rinascente la dolcissima Sara ha insistito perchè provassi il Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer (€40) e mi ha rimandata a casa con un generosissimo sample della tonalità Cameo. Questo è probabilmente il prodotto più famoso del range ed ora può vantare anche il mio sigillo di approvazione. E' idratante e luminoso, senza sconfinare nel lucido, ed è praticamente invisibile sulla pelle. La coprenza è molto sheer - più bassa di quella dell'alternativa oil-free -  ma è sufficiente ad uniformare il colorito e nascondere le piccole imperfezioni nei giorni di totale relax. Dura più o meno 6 ore senza polvere fissante, ma da questo tipo di prodotto non mi aspetterei nulla di più.
Per me rimane il tipo di base che utilizzerei in quelle rare giornate di pelle pseudo-perfetta, ma è comunque una delle migliori creme colorate che abbia provato - seconda solo alla versione oil-free, credo -.

002 Il Laura Mercier Moisture Supréme Foundation (€41) toglie il respiro. Consente di ottenere un look meravigliosamente luminoso e senza difetti, grazie ad una formulazione altamente idratante e satura. La coprenza è eccezionale; questo fondotinta è così pigmentato da rendere quasi inutile l'uso del correttore. Crea l'illusione di una pelle incredibile, che appare fin da subito più fresca e piena, e sorprendentemente luminosa.  Resta al suo posto per tutto il giorno, senza scivolare come succede ad altre basi idratanti, e senza apparire unto piuttosto che radioso. Oserei definirlo il fondotinta definitivo per pelli secche e mature, e per chiunque sia alla ricerca di una base dalla coprenza medio-alta e che sia idratante ed allo stesso tempo a lunga durata. Piccola menzione d'onore per la tonalità Porcelain Ivory che è una delle pochissime nuance per pelli chiare e chiarissime a base gialla sul mercato, e che quindi oltre ai benefici appena accennati aiuta anche a correggere rossori e discolorazioni.

003 Questo fondotinta è finito nella lista di quelli da provare non appena ho sentito qualcuno paragonarlo all'Armani Maestro. Ora che ho finalmente messo le mani su un sample del L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint (€12.99) vedo chiaramente alcune somiglianze tra le due basi: entrambe si sfumano alla perfezione, hanno un finish vellutato e morbido al tatto e restano perfettamente opache tutto il giorno, senza bisogno di polveri fissanti o primer. La coprenza è modulabile e dipende molto dallo strumento utilizzato per l'applicazione: si passa da un velo appena percettibile e super naturale quando il prodotto viene steso con le dita, ad una coprenza medio-alta con l'utilizzo di una spugnetta o di un pennello da fondotinta molto compatto, come il Real Techinques Expert Face (€14.50). Sebbene io non ami particolarmente  questo aspetto così opaco - che addirittura fa sembrare la mia pelle secca ancora più secca, soprattutto nelle giornate più fredde - capisco perchè l'Eau de Teint abbia così tanti estimatori. Ne apprezzo la leggerezza e la durata, e per curiosità non mancherò di riprovarlo in estate per vedere come si comporta con temperature più elevate; per il momento, però, non mi ha entusiasmata.

004 Fondotinta in polvere e pelle secca non vanno molto d'accordo secondo la mia esperienza ma come al solito Laura Mercier ha saputo superare le mie aspettative. Il nuovo Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Foundation Powder (€40) è un fondo compatto dalla polvere setosa e finissima; si stende facilmente, riducendo l'apparenza di pori ed imperfezioni e nascondendo i rossori. La coprenza è ottima e facilmente modulabile; va da media, quando applicato asciutto con l'aiuto di un pennello, a quasi totale se picchiettato sul viso con una spugna umida. Trovo che l'applicazione migliore e dall'aspetto più naturale si ottenga con un pennello allo stesso tempo denso e vaporoso, come per esempio il Real Techniques Multi-task Brush (che fa parte del Travel Essentials Kit €25). per lavorarlo delicatamente e stratificare il prodotto solo dove necessario. E' il tipo di fondotinta il cui aspetto migliora col passare delle ore, quando gli oli naturali della pelle cominciano a fare capolino; per questo credo sia più adatto a pelli normali e miste, ma risulta comunque molto confortevole anche per le pelli secche. E' inoltre fantastico per i ritocchi, perchè opacizza ed aggiunge un pizzico di colore senza però appesantire o creare accumuli sgradevoli. Il colore non ossida e quindi non cambia durante la giornata, ed il finish satinato appare estremamente naturale, nonostante la formulazione in polvere.

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening Makeup // MAC Matchmaster Foundation Spf15 // Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation // YSL Forever Youth Liberator Serum Foundation

001 I've wanted to try the Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation (£25.50) for the longest time but I only got it sampled quite recently. It's nice and light, easy to blend and with buildable coverage. It sets to a stunning skin-like finish that is flawless indeed and lasts very well on my skin. I also really appreciate the spf30 PA+++ that makes it perfect for everyday use, especially during the warmer months due to the lightweight texture. Not only pros though. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the shade range runs very yellow - which may or may not be an issue for some - and the lightest shade is not so light after all. Shame, because I really liked it.

002 I had a little bit of a love/hate relationship with MAC Matchmaster Foundation (£27) for a while, until I figured out how to make it work for my skin. This foundation is best suited for combination and oily skins, but with the right prepping and a smart application it works well for dry complexions as well. It provides medium coverage with a demi-matte finish but what makes this foundation stand out is the lasting power. For such a light formula - compared to other MAC foundations - it lasts for ages on me and doesn't look cakey or too obvious. I like to apply it with a blending sponge (like the RT Miracle Sponge) to achieve a natural flawless finish and push it into the skin rather than buff it in to avoid skin flaking. The colour range is quite good, especially compared to the rest of MAC's selection: it's available in 14 shades with very soft undertones and a lot of neutral shades. I wear 1.0 which settles around a MAC N8/N10.

003 Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (£34.50) is my latest crush within the foundation department. Lovely luminous finish, silky texture and lightweight formula are only the first features that come to my mind when I try to describe this foundation. The constantly-improving shade range is marvelous, with light shades for pale ladies like me and a lot of in-between shades to please everyone. It photographs beautifully and looks simply amazing on the skin. No cons for this one, except maybe for the price tag but it's not bad enough to affect my devotion. Oh my, I fell and I fell hard. Next product on my to-try list is its powder counterpart, the Luminous Silk Powder (£31). Bankrupt but with beautiful skin at least, right? Right.

004 The YSL Youth Liberator Foundation (£34) is a gorgeous moisturizing base that sets to a satin, velvety look but still manages to look oh so glowy. I adore the lit-from-within luminosity and the uber healthy finish it has. Expensive skin in a bottle, that's it. And yes, the bottle itself is quite expensive but treatment makeup is always worth the splurge in my opinion. Coverage wise I'd say it settles around medium, definitely higher than what I anticipated. Lasting power is not outstanding but that's to be expected from a moisturizing base and it's nothing a light dust of setting powder can't fix. Price aside, the only downside I could find is the colour range: it's only available in 7 shades, with random beige, pink and golden undertones. I recommend getting a sample first but if there's a shade for you, you can sit with me and wait for a discount code. I'm splurging, ladies.

001 Erano mesi che volevo provare il Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation (€35.90) ma solo recentemente mi sono ricordata di richiederne un sample da Sephora. E' molto leggero e facile da sfumare e da modulare. Il finish è stupendo, proprio come pelle perfetta, ma comunque molto naturale, e dura tranquillamente fino a sera. Apprezzo particolarmente il fattore di protezione solare spf30 PA+++ che lo rende ideale per tutti i giorni, e soprattutto per i mesi più caldi grazie anche alla texture leggerissima. Non solo cose positive però, ma anche un paio di contro. Dopo un'occhiata all'assortimento mi sono resa conto che tutte le tonalità tendono decisamente al giallo - potrebbe essere un vantaggio per alcuni, ma trovo che un solo sottotono, tra l'altro abbastanza spiccato, non offra molta scelta - ed il colore più chiaro non è poi così chiaro dopotutto. Peccato, perchè mi piace davvero.

002 La mia relazione con il MAC Matchmaster Foundation (€35.79) è stata di amore/odio per un bel po', ma si trattava solo di scoprire come applicarlo al meglio. Questo fondotinta è più adatto a pelli miste e grasse, ma con la giusta idratazione ed un'applicazione intelligente è perfetto anche per le pelli secche. Offre una coprenza media con un finish quasi opaco, ma è la durata a rendere questo fondo speciale. Nonostante la formula leggera - in confronto al resto delle basi MAC - dura un'eternità sulla mia pelle e non risulta troppo evidente. Trovo che lo strumento migliore per l'applicazione sia la spugnetta blender (come la Miracle Sponge di RT) per picchiettare il prodotto piuttosto che lavorarlo con un pennello che potrebbe causare desquamazione. La selezione di colorazioni è la migliore che MAC abbia da offrire, con 14 tonalità dai sottotoni delicati e per la maggior parte tendenti al neutro. Io porto 1.0 che si aggira intorno al N8/N10, quindi la gamma è piuttosto ampia ed il fatto che il pigmento si adatti abbastanza bene alla carnagione aiuta a colmare eventuali mancanze.

003 L'Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (€44.95)è la più recente causa di batticuore nel reparto fondotinta per la sottoscritta. Favoloso finish luminoso, texture setosa e formula leggerissima sono solo le prime caratteristiche che mi vengono in mente quando cerco di descrivere questo prodotto. La gamma di colori in costante evoluzione è fantastica, con colori molto chiari per gli incarnati di porcellana come il mio e davvero molte tonalità intermedie per venire in contro a tutte le esigenze. Viene benissimo in fotografia e si fonde perfettamente con la pelle. Niente lati negativi in questo caso, eccetto forse il prezzo, che però non basta ad incrinare il mio amore e poi gli sconti servono proprio a questo. Ho preso una cotta coi fiocchi questa volta. Il prossimo nella mia lista dei prodotti da provare è il suo omologo in polvere, il Luminous Silk Powder (€41.95). In bancarotta si, ma con una pelle perfetta, giusto?

004 Il YSL Youth Liberator Foundation (€51.95)è una magnifica base idratante con un finish satinato e dall'aspetto vellutato che è comunque molto radioso. Adoro la luminosità che sembra venire da dentro e l'aspetto salutare che dona alla pelle. Il modo migliore per descriverlo è 'pelle costosa in bottiglia'. E si, la bottiglia è di per sè abbastanza costosa, ma credo valga sempre la pena di pagare un po' di più per un prodotto makeup che si prende anche cura della pelle. La coprenza è media, comunque più alta di quanto mi aspettassi, ma dipende parecchio dallo strumento utilizzato per l'applicazione. La durata non è eccelsa ma c'è da aspettarselo da una base così idratante; comunque non è nulla che non si possa sistemare con un pizzico di polvere fissante. Prezzo a parte, l'unico lato negativo che riesco a trovare è la gamma di colori: è disponibile soltanto in 7 tonalità con sottotoni beige, rosa e dorati un po' casuali. Va decisamente provato prima dell'acquisto, ma se riuscite a trovare il colore giusto per voi, potete aspettare un codice sconto insieme a me. Mi sa che io la pazzia la faccio.

Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer

Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Enhancer SX01 £36/€42

After hearing so many bloggers rave about it I finally decided to give it a go and purchased the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. It's basically a little pot of wonder, filled with the most highly pigmented, full coverage base you can think of and can be used either sparingly on its own or combined with primers, moisturizers, highlighters, concealers and so on to create a fresh, flawless complexion.
The sky's the limit with this multipurpose gem.

Application as an all-over foundation is a little tricky, because the product’s as close to pure pigment as you can go and it’s very thick. Be ready to blend, blend, blend like there's no tomorrow.
I can see it would work better on normal to oily skins since the skin’s natural oils would give it a nice slip making application a lot more stress-free. For dry skin like mine I recommend a good moisturizer and/or a primer applied a handful of seconds before the product to make it slide more easily on the skin. Personally I think it's a bit wasted for this purpose for it can look heavy and a little cakey if applied on poorly prepped skin. It works as spot-on concealer as well but once again it needs to be blended really really well otherwise it can look patchy. It's when you mix it with other products that you can see why the SSE is considered a holy grail by so many makeup lovers.

I love it mixed with my Chantecaille Just Skin tinted moisturizer. The result combines the lightness and radiant glow of a tinted moisturizer and the coverage and longevity of a gorgeous foundation.

Mixed with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl creates an uber radiant, almost ethereal base, while if blended with a pea-sized blob of Clarins Instant smooth primer creates a smoothing foundation that lasts all day. When combined with a light reflecting concealer provides enough coverage to hide dark circles in a swipe and still looks light and natural, with a soft dewy finish.
I could go on for days about the endless uses but I'll cut it short for your sake. It's the ultimate versatile product that never lets you down and I definitely recommend it. The only downside I can think of is the ingredient list: I can see many of you will turn their noses up at that mineral oil as first ingredient and I have to say it was the thing I was most nervous about when I bought it. However it didn't break me out and my skin didn't have weird reactions to this ingredient; as far as I can tell it makes SSE feel quite heavy on the skin when applied straight form the pot but that's about it.

It's available in 16 shades and I wear SX01 which is a very good match for my skin, mostly because it’s not made only with the usual pink and yellow pigments, but there’re also some bits of grey in it to make it look just like real skin. I've heard shade estimations based on online foundation matrixes can be misleading so make sure to get color-matched on counter before buying it.

It’s not a must have for the average makeup user, but it’s definitely an interesting product for who likes to play and experiment with textures and finishes and bring makeup to the next level.

Dopo averne sentito parlare così tanto ho deciso di buttarmi ed acquistare il Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. E' un barattolino delle meraviglie, che contiene la base a coprenza totale più pigmentata che riuscite ad immaginare e che può essere utilizzata da sola così com'è oppure combinata con primer, creme idratanti, correttori, illuminanti e chi più ne ha più ne metta per creare un aspetto fresco e senza difetti. Con questa gemma multiuso le possibilità sono davvero infinite.

L'applicazione come fondotinta semplice è un po' complessa perchè si tratta praticamente di un pigmento puro ed è molto denso, per cui bisogna armarsi di un buon pennello e tanto olio di gomito per stenderlo e sfumarlo al meglio. Stenderlo su una pelle grassa sarebbe più semplice e meno stressante perchè gli oli della pelle permetterebbero al prodotto di scivolare con facilità. Per ovviare al problema su pelli secche come la mia consiglio l'uso di un primer o di un idratante leggero pochi secondi prima dell'applicazione per garantire una stesura più omogenea.
Francamente penso che il SSE sia sprecato per questo uso, perchè se la pelle non fosse preparata a dovere il risultato potrebbe lasciare a desiderare, dando al tutto un aspetto pesante. E' quando lo si mischia con altri prodotti che s'intuisce perchè sia un prodotto così amato, sia dagli appassionati sia dai pro.

Adoro mischiarlo con la crema colorata Chantecaille Just Skin; il risultato combina la leggerezza e la luminosità di un tinted moisturizer con la longevità e la coprenza di un fantastico fondotinta. In coppia con il Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector nella tonalità Pearl crea una base radiosa e quasi eterea, mentre mescolato ad un pizzico di Primer Instant Smooth di Clarins si ottiene un fondotinta lisciante che dura tutto il giorno. Una piccolissima goccia di SSE unita ad un correttore illuminante copre le occhiaie in una sola passata pur mantenendo un aspetto fresco e naturale, con un leggero effetto bagnato.

Potrei andare avanti per ore ad elencare le possibili combinazioni, ma la farò breve. E' il prodotto multiuso per eccellenza, che non delude mai, e lo raccomando caldamente. L'unico difetto che gli ho trovato è la lista degli ingredienti: so che in molte storcerete il naso a sentire che il mineral oil è al primo post della lista ed io stessa ero un po' nervosa al pensiero di come avrebbe reagito la mia pelle. Invece non ho avuto sfoghi nè strane reazioni; per esperienza posso dire che l'unico effetto percepibile sia la pesantezza sulla pelle quando utilizzato da solo, in purezza, ma questo è quanto.

E' disponibile in 16 tonalità e io indosso la più chiara, SX01, che è un match perfetto, in parte perchè non si tratta del solito mix di pigmenti gialli e rosa, ma contiene anche un pizzico di grigio che lo rende molto più simile a pelle vera. Visto il numero di tonalità e sottotoni disponibili l'acquisto online potrebbe essere un po' rischioso, per cui vi consiglio di fare un bel po' di ricerche per trovare il vostro colore prima di comprare.

Non è un must per chi si limita ad un trucco molto basic ed è alle prime armi, però è un prodotto decisamente interessante per chi ama sperimentare con texture ed effetti e vuole portare il makeup ad un livello superiore e più professionale.

001 More than a BB cream, this is a thick tinted moisturizer with light to medium coverage and a gorgeous radiant finish. It smells like heaven and it has pretty decent lasting power without a primer underneath or a setting powder on top. It feels slightly heavier than your standard tinted moisturizer; I can actually feel it on my skin if it makes sense, like a foundation, but it's still nice to wear. Bonus points for the spf25, perfect for the warmer season. It comes in 3 shades and if you can find the right match for your skin, this BB cream is definitely worth a try.

002 I tried a sample of this and ordered the full size on CultBeauty right away. Given the name you'd expect a matte tinted moisturizer, instead Matte Moisture Tint is a light foundation with medium coverage, a soft texture and amazing staying power. The name is entirely misleading because it's not opaque at all, but looks extremely natural and glowy like healthy skin. It reminds me of a lighter, more spring-appropriate version of the Laura Mercier Silk crème foundation - my number one base at the moment -. I can't wait to get my order to start wearing it! The weather gets warmer and warmer everyday and I'm looking forward to switch to a fresher and lighter everyday makeup routine.

003 I've wanted to try this since the latest fashion weeks, when many makeup artists around the globe raved about it, but at the same time I was really dubious, 'cause - with the exception of F&B - MAC liquid bases break me out like crazy and I can't really wear them. I haven't tried the previous version and I can't really tell if or how this one is different, but the new Mineralize foundation is stunning. Glowy and radiant, easy to blend, light on the skin and with decent lasting power. It's a moisturizing foundation so I'd stay away from it if you have oily skin, but it's such a relief for my dry complexion! Also the shades look less pink and yellow to me, and more neutral with cool or warm undertones, so extra brownie points for the color range. I can't wait to tan a little in the next months to buy it in the shade NC15.

004 Here I'm cheating a little, 'cause VitaZing is not a foundation by any means. It's actually a lovely, energy-boosting moisturizer with just a hint of tint in it, not enough to cover imperfections but sufficient to even out the skin tone a bit. I think it'd be great on holiday or for the pool, if you need to help your skin tone a bit but obviously don't want to cake on too many products. When applied right before foundation gives a nice glow to the skin and makes the application of the base so much easier and flawless. I also feel like I need to apply less foundation when I wear this underneath it and my base stays perfect for longer. And the extra spf15 comes in handy when applied under photo-ready foundations like the Laura Mercier Silk crème. I'll definitely buy the full size when my deluxe sample runs out. It makes my skin feel and look so great.

001 Più che di una BB cream, si tratta di una crema colorata un po' densa, dalla coprenza modulabile, che va da leggera a media, ed un fantastico finish radioso. Il profumo è paradisiaco e la durata è ottima per un prodotto di questo tipo. E' un po' più pesante di una crema colorata, nel senso che posso sentirlo sulla pelle se ha senso, ma è comunque piacevole da indossare. Ha anche un spf 25 che potrebbe essere un problema per le foto ma è perfetto per la primavera/estate. Ha un grossimo difetto, però: è disponibile in 3 tonalità - Light, Medium e Dark - ma in Italia Clarins, per qualche strano motivo, distribuisce solo le ultime due. Mi sarebbe piaciuto acquistarla per l'estate, ma purtroppo l'effetto Oompa Loompa è garantito in questo caso. Da provare, colore permettendo.

002 Ho avuto l'occasione di provarne un sample ed ho immediatamente ordinato il full size su CultBeauty, senza pensarci un attimo. Dal nome ci si aspetterebbe una crema colorata opaca, ma Matte Moisture Tint è un fondotinta leggero, dalla consistenza quasi impalpabile come quella una crema colorata, ma con media coprenza ed una durata incredibile.  Il nome inganna parecchio, perchè non è affatto opaco, ma molto naturale e luminoso come pelle vera; mi fa pensare ad una versione più leggera ed estiva del Silk crème di Laura Mercier - il mio fondotinta preferito del momento - che sostituirà nella mia routine nei mesi più caldi, perchè l'umidità di Milano non perdona e preferisco qualcosa di meno coprente e dalla texture più leggera.

003 Volevo provarlo da quando i makeup artist di tutto il mondo lo hanno osannato durante le varie settimane della moda, ma sempre con un pizzico di diffidenza, perchè non ho precedenti felici con i fondi liquidi di MAC - l'unico che riesco ad usare senza avere reazioni è il F&B -. Non ho provato la versione precedente, per cui non saprei dire se ci sono differenze, ma il nuovo Mineralize è incredibile. Luminoso e radioso, facile da stendere e con una durata eccellente. E' molto idratante, per cui lo eviterei come la peste se avessi la pelle grassa, ma con la mia pelle secca ci farei il bagno. Punti extra per le tonalità, che mi sembrano meno gialle e rosa del solito, ma piuttosto neutre con sottotoni caldi e freddi. Aspetto con ansia di prendere un po' di colore nei prossimi mesi per acquistare il full size NC15, perchè mi piace da matti.

004 Qui sto barando un pochino, perchè VitaZing non è un fondotinta. E' un favoloso idratante con solo un pizzico di pigmento, appena sufficiente a ravvivare il colorito, ma non abbastanza a coprire le imperfezioni. Potrebbe bastare giusto giusto in vacanza, quando si cerca di indossare meno makeup possibile ma si vuole aiutare un pochino un colorito poco uniforme. Se usato come base, facilita molto l'applicazione del fondotinta, aggiunge un tocco di luminosità alla base con in più un fattore di protezione solare 15, che è sempre utile, soprattutto quando si utilizzano fondotinta senza spf come il Silk crème. Quando lo applico mi sembra di utilizzare meno prodotto e che la mia base resti perfetta più a lungo. Per ora sto usando una mini taglia ma comprerò sicuramente il full size in futuro, perchè mi sta piacendo davvero moltissimo, soprattutto usato in tandem con il primer Radiance di Laura Mercier.

L’Oreal Color Correcting creams offer the same skincare benefits of a bb cream in addition to extra tone correcting powers to even out the skin tone and counteract complexion issues. They come in 3 shades: green to neutralize redness, peach for an anti-fatigue effect and lilac to correct dull skin tones.
I tried the anti-redness* one, because even if I don't have huge skin issues such as rosacea or iper-pigmentation, I'm very pale and pinkness and fair skin tones tend to go arm in arm. The mint green cream looks quite scary at first but it blends seamlessly into the skin with a demi-matte finish and a strong yellow undertone. The coverage is very light. It reminds me of a matte version of the Estee Lauder Day wear sheer tint because it adds color without hiding much. A couple of layers are enough coverage for my chilling-at-home days and quick errands but the coverage is lighter than what I’m comfortable with. Although I do recon it works well underneath foundations as a primer because it feels nice and smooth, it doesn't have enough lasting power on its own to make the foundation last all day.

It might be because I don’t have much redness to neutralize, but I can't say this is a groundbreaking product. It covers redness just like any other yellow-based tinted moisturizer I own but with less coverage and an opaque finish.
There’s still a lot of room for improvement. For instance spf12 is too low, especially for a product that should be worn alone. The one-shade-fits-all policy is one of the things that never convinced me about bb creams and my experience with this product confirmed my suspicions: it’s too dark for my fair skin and it’s probably going to be too light for deeper skin tones but it should work well for light to medium complexions.

I wasn't sold on the whole bb cream thing before and if possible I'm even more dubious now. I was hoping this could be a drugstore dupe for the far more expensive MUFE green HD primer, but the search is still open.

Le CC creams di L'oreal offrono gli stessi benefici di una bb cream con in più un effetto correttivo  per uniformare il colorito e contrastare problemi di pigmentazione. Sono disponibili in 3 varianti: verde per neutralizzare i rossori, pesca per un effetto illuminante ed anti-stanchezza, e lilla per combattere il colorito spento.
Io ho provato l'anti-rossore* perchè, anche se non ho problemi seri come rosacea o iper-pigmentazione, sono molto pallida e di solito pallore ed arrossamenti vanno a braccetto. La crema verde menta fa un po' paura di primo acchito ma a contatto con la pelle il pigmento si trasforma e si sfuma perfettamente con l'incarnato, donando alla pelle un finish semi opaco con uno spiccato sottotono giallo.
La coprenza è molto leggera. Mi ricorda il Day wear sheer tint di Estee Lauder che dona un colorito sano più che coprire le imperfezioni. E' perfetto per quei giorni in cui resto a casa in attesa del postino o faccio due commissioni veloci, ma in generale la coprenza è troppo bassa per i miei gusti e non mi sentirei a mio agio ad uscire indossando solo questo prodotto. Funziona discretamente come primer sotto al fondotinta, perchè ha un effetto lisciante ed uniformante, ma non dura abbastanza di per sè per prolungare la durata della base.

Potrebbe dipendere dal fatto che io non abbia rossori importanti da correggere, ma non mi sembra un prodotto particolarmente degno di nota. Copre gli arrossamenti come una qualunque crema colorata con sottotono giallo che possiedo, ma con coprenza inferiore ed una finitura opaca.
C'è molto spazio per i miglioramenti, primo tra tutti il fattore di protezione solare spf12 che è un po' bassino, soprattutto per un prodotto che dovrebbe essere indossato da solo. Inoltre la questione della colorazione unica per tutti non mi ha mai convinta nel caso delle bb cream ed in questa occasione i miei sospetti sono stati confermati: è troppo scura per il mio incarnato pallido e probabilmente si dimostrerà troppo chiara per le carnagioni più scure, ma non dovrebbe creare problemi alle pelli chiare e medie.

L'intera faccenda bb cream non mi convinceva prima ed ora se possibile sono ancora più confusa. Speravo che questa cc cream potesse essere la risposta low-cost al molto più costoso primer verde HD di MUFE, ma la ricerca continua.

The foundation freak strikes again...

001 I have to admit this foundation surprised me a lot. I'm not usually a fan of drugstore bases but Maybelline Fit me is very nice. It's tin, easy to blend and looks so natural, despite the medium coverage. The wear is not amazing tho: after 4-5 hours it looked a little worn out on the nose, which is the only area where I may get slightly oily during the day, but it faded evenly without blotchiness. The rest of the face anyways looked good at the end of the day and a primer or a tin veil of setting powder will do the job. The color range is also pretty good for a high street foundation. Worth a look.

002 This foundation is worth trying at least once just because of its unique texture: it’s so weird, it feels like applying dry oil on your face. I’d say the coverage is close to medium: it evens out the skin tone perfectly but blemishes will still need extra concealing. The finish is velvety and opaque; it’s actually very wintery, I would never wear something like this in spring or summer: even if the skin looks really perfected, it doesn’t look natural or fresh. It's also one of the longest lasting foundations I came across: at the end of the day it looked exactly like it looked in the morning, without setting powder or a primer underneath. I’m glad I tried it but I won’t purchase the full size: mad price aside, I prefer my foundations to have dewy, glowy finishes but it's definitely an interesting product and I understand the hype.

003 Capture totale is recommended for dull, dry or mature skin. It's a unique blend of anti-aging ingredients to treat and plump the skin and multi-toned pigments to create a more natural skin-like effect. Looking at the claims I was expecting a glowy finish; instead it's quite opaque, satin at the most. The coverage is medium but buildable. Pores and imperfection are blurred for a HD effect, but honestly I'd choose something lighter and more radiant both for mature or simply dry skin. I can't really say anything about the skincare benefits but the base itself gets thumbs down cause it's way too heavy.

004 Another decent option for satin finish lovers. Unfortunately, perfect match for my skin tone aside, I couldn't find anything special about this foundation, nothing exciting to write home about. It does the job quite well, but no wow effect for me. Light to medium coverage, very light weight formula, nice color range. Not so keen on the alcohol smell but it doesn't linger on the skin, so it's not a big deal. Without praise or blame.

La fanatica di fondotinta colpisce ancora...

001 Devo ammettere che questo fondotinta mi ha davvero sorpresa. Di solito non mi interesso di basi di marchi da supermercato, principalmente per il solito problema delle tonalità troppo scure, ma il Fit me di Maybelline vale un'occhiata. E' leggero, facile da sfumare ed ha un effetto molto naturale, nonostante offra una coprenza media. La durata non è delle migliori però: dopo 4-5 ore ho notato che aveva cominciato a sbiadire sul naso, che è l'unico punto in cui divento un po' lucida durante il giorno, ma in ogni caso svanisce in modo uniforme. Il resto del viso però è rimasto perfetto fino a sera, per cui con un primer od un leggero velo di polvere si dovrebbe risolvere il problema. Inoltre la scelta di colori è piuttosto ampia per un marchio low cost. Non male davvero.

002 Fondotinta assolutamente da provare per la formula unica e particolare: è stranissimo, come olio secco colorato. Direi che la coprenza è media: l'incarnato è uniformato ma le imperfezioni più importanti richiedono comunque una velo di correttore. Il finish è vellutato ed opaco; in realtà è una base molto 'invernale'. Non indosserei mai niente del genere in primavera o estate, perchè se la pelle appare perfetta, non sembra fresca e manca di naturalezza. C'è da dire che è uno dei fondotinta più a lunga durata che abbia provato: senza polvere o primer dura da mattina a sera senza fare una piega, e sembra sempre appena applicato. Impressionante. Sono contenta di averlo provato perchè è davvero particolarissimo, ma non comprerò la taglia piena: prezzo folle a parte, preferisco basi luminose e dal finish radioso, ma è decismente interessante e capisco il fermento generale.

003 Capture totale è consigliato per pelli secche, mature o dal colorito spento. Si tratta di un mix unico di ingredienti anti-età, incluso un siero, e pigmenti multisfaccettati per creare un effetto più naturale, come pelle. Viste le premesse mi aspettavo un finish luminoso, invece è piuttosto opaco, satinato al massimo. La coprenza è media ma ci si può lavorare. Pori e piccole imperfezioni appaiono sfocati e ridotti per un effetto HD, ma in tutta onestà sceglierei qualcosa di più radioso e leggero sia per pelli mature sia per quelle più secche. Non mi esprimo per i benefici anti-età ma la base in sè è da pollice verso, perchè è veramente troppo pesante.

004 Un'altra discreta opzione per le amanti del finish semi-opaco. Sfortunatamente, a parte un match praticamente perfetto con la mia carnagione, non sono riuscita a trovare niente di eccezionale in questo fondotinta, nessun motivo per correre a comprare il full size insomma. Fa il suo lavoro, senza infamia e senza lode. Coprenza da leggera a media, formula molto leggera che quasi non si sente, ottima scelta di tonalità chiare. Non impazzisco per il profumo di alcohol, ma visto che non si trasferisce sulla pelle non è un grosso problema.

I got my hands on a couple more samples recently and I thought to throw in a quick review of one of my favorites foundations as well, because why not.

Dior Diorskin Nude skin-glowing makeup spf15 // Burberry Sheer luminous fluid foundation // Illamasqua Skin base // Rimmel Wake me up

001 This foundation was quite disappointing. The coverage is so light it might as well be a tinted moisturizer. 010 was a perfect match for my pale skin tone at first but after a couple of hours it looked pinker and about one shade darker. I actually liked the natural satin finish and the lasting power was decent without powder but I can't be bothered to spend 40€ for a foundation that looks like a bb cream. Recommended if you have pretty decent skin already or if you have freckles and want them to show through your foundation, otherwise skip it, unless of course you enjoy doing an awful lot of concealing. And keep in mind that it might oxidize and become darker and darker during the day.

002 After loving the Velvet foundation so much I had to try the Sheer version as well. Don't let the name fool you. This is not a sheer foundation by any means. The coverage is medium, with a nice skin-like finish and a soft glow. It has the same delicate baby powder scent of the Velvet one and feels like nothing on the skin, but somehow is very noticeable. Seems nice from far away but when you look up-close it's like the pigment clung to every little imperfection, making it look more obvious. There are definitely better foundations for the same price or less on the market, but if you're curious about Burberry foundations I recommend you check the Velvet formula. That one is really great. Try-before-buy is mandatory here.

003 I just love Illamasqua Skin base so much! I always forget how much I love it until I wear it again. The pixel perfect finish is wonderful, dewy but very natural. The coverage is medium to full depending on what you use to apply; I like to apply it with a stippling brush, like the Real Techniques one or a MAC 130 to really buff it in for a flawless skin effect. It took me a couple of disastrous attempts to figure out how much product to use. You only need the smallest bit, about a pea-sized drop, to cover your whole face. It's so pigmented it takes absolutely nothing to overdo and make it look cakey. Since there's no spf in it, it's my foundation of choice (along with NARS Sheer glow) for a night out because it photographs perfectly and doesn't flash back. It's available in 26 shades (yes, you read correctly! 26! I'm shade 6 for reference) plus a golden highlighter and Illamasqua provided a very useful shade conversion chart for easy color match.

004 Rimmel Wake me up looks so much more expensive than it is with a radiant finish and long lasting formula; price tag and availability make it perfect for anyone on the market for a medium coverage foundation with an anti fatigue effect. Don't mind the shimmer, it's barely noticeable on the skin in normal lighting.

Unfortunately the shade selection (6 shades only) is unforgiving: the lightest shade Ivory 100 settles around a MAC Nw20-22 and the pink undertone is very obvious. I managed to wear it this summer with some adjustments and a bit of fake tan but at this time it's impossible for me to use it. If you can find a shade that matches yours I totally recommend it. It's a brilliant product.

Di recente ho messo le mani su un paio di nuovi samples ed ho pensato di buttare nel mucchio anche uno dei miei fondotinta preferiti per far numero.

001 Grandissima delusione. La coprenza è così leggera che potrebbe definirsi una crema colorata. 010 si adatta perfettamente alla mia carnagione, ma dopo un paio d'ore il fondotinta sembra più rosato e più scuro di quasi una tonalità. Mi è piaciuto l'effetto satinato e la durata è discreta anche senza polvere fissante, ma mi rifiuto di spendere €40 per un fondotinta che sulla pelle sembra una bb cream. Lo raccomando a chi ha una pelle quasi perfetta ed ha solo problemi di discolorazione; oppure a chi ha le lentiggini e vuole che siano comunque visibili sotto al trucco, altrimenti niente da fare, a meno che non vi diverta correggere ogni più piccola imperfezione con il correttore. E tenete comunque a mente che potrebbe ossidare e diventare più scuro man mano che passano le ore. In questo caso assolutamente provare prima di comprare.

002 Visto che il Velvet mi è piaciuto così tanto ho deciso di provare anche la versione Sheer del fondotinta Burberry. Non lasciatevi ingannare dal nome. Non è affatto una base semi-trasparente. La coprenza, infatti, è media e modulabile, con un grazioso effetto pelle luminosa. Ha la stessa delicata profumazione di borotalco del Velvet ed è leggerissimo sulla pelle, anche se, stranamente, risulta molto evidente. Visto da lontano è perfetto, ma da vicino sembra quasi che il pigmento si raccolga attorno alle piccole imperfezioni, rendendole più ovvie. Ho visto di meglio e per un prezzo inferiore, ma se Burberry vi incuriosice vi raccomando di provare il Velvet. Quello si che è un fondotinta coi fiocchi.

003 Adoro la Skin base di Illamasqua! Mi dimentico sempre di quanto mi piace fino a che non la utilizzo di nuovo. Il finish ad alta definizione è magnifico, dall'effetto bagnato ma comunque non eccessivo. La coprenza va da media a totale, a seconda di cosa si usa per applicare il fondotinta; io di solito utilizzo uno stippling brush come quello di Real techniques oppure il 130 di MAC per sfumarlo benissimo ed ottenere un effetto pelle perfetta. Mi ci sono voluti un paio di tentativi disastrosi ma alla fine ho capito qual è la quantità ideale di prodotto da utilizzare. Ne serve pochissimo, più o meno una goccia grande quanto un pisello per tutto il viso. E' così pigmentato che è davvero facilissimo applicarne troppo ed ottenere un pessimo risultato. Visto che non contiene spf è il fondotinta che scelgo (insieme allo Sheer glow di NARS) per le mie serate fuori o per quando so che verrò fotografata, perchè viene benissimo in foto e non riflette il flash. E' disponibile in 26 colorazioni (si, avete letto bene: 26! Io indosso la 6 per la cronaca) più un'illuminante dorato ed Illamasqua ha creato un'utilissima tabella di conversione per semplificare al massimo la scelta della tonalità corretta.

004 Il Wake me up di Rimmel sembra molto più costoso di quanto non sia, con il suo finish radioso ed una formula a lunga tenuta; prezzo e reperibilità lo rendono perfetto per chiunque sia alla ricerca di una base con coprenza media e con un effetto illuminante ed anti fatica. Non fatevi spaventare dall'iridescenza, con una normale illuminazione i micro-glitter non si notano sul viso.

Sfortunatamente il range di tonalità (solo 6) non perdona: la tonalità più chiara Ivory 100 corrisponde ad un MAC Nw20-22 ed il sottotono rosa è molto evidente. Sono riuscita ad indossarlo quest'estate con qualche aggiustamento ed un po' di auto-abbronzante ma ora come ora per me è inutilizzabile. Ammesso che riusciate a trovare un colore che vi si addica, lo stra consiglio. E' fantastico sul serio.

I probably own more than a normal person needs yet every time a new foundation hits the market I get really excited and want to try it right away.

While swatching the products  and give them quick test directly at the counter can be useful, I find the best way to see if a foundation really works for me is to try it at home, in natural light, with my usual skin prepping products and my own brushes. Not many brands understand that and sometimes the counters aren't even equipped with sample jars; that's why I took the habit to carry 3-4 samples jars in my bag all the time. Obviously not every foundation I try makes it to my to-buy list or even to an in-depth review on the blog, but I wanted to share my thoughts on some of them anyways.

Bourjois Healthy mix serum // Laura Mercier Silk crème // Lacome Teint idole ultra 24h // Laura Mercier Oil-free supreme // YSL Le teint Touche eclat

001 Since the regular Healthy mix is my favorite drugstore foundation for everyday wear, I was quite curious to try the Serum version which is supposed to work even better than the regular one on dry skins. About a month ago or so I did a little sample swap with Alessandra, the lovely blogger behind Dotted around, and she kindly included a jar of #51 Vanilla in the bunch. It provides a fairly buildable light-to-medium coverage and has a nice demi-matte, skin-like finish. I always get compliments about my complexion when I wear Bourjois foundations thanks to the radiant boosting, anti-fatigue effect. The shade range is a little poor and could use an improvement. I absolutely love the fruity scent and the idea of a treatment wrapped into a foundation that makes your skin better while you're wearing it.

002 I love it because it's the most natural looking full coverage foundation I've tried in a long time. It's quite buildable so depending on the amount of product and the brush you use to apply you can go from sheer to full coverage with no effort. And it doubles as concealer as well which makes it perfect for rushed days. I like to apply with the Real Techniques stippling brush or MAC 130 because my skin is looking pretty good at this time and I don't need heavy coverage. The finish is luminous and radiant and the oil free formula is quite long wearing without feeling heavy on the skin. I had a sample of Cream ivory which is a little too dark for me in winter but the lightest shade Soft ivory should do the trick. Went straight into my to-buy list.

003 The first time I tried this foundation it reminded me of my beloved Chanel Pro Lumiere, because of the glowy, lit-from-within finish. Teint idole is not so dewy and luminous, but is just as easy to blend and sets to a nice satin finish, which is a little unusual for foundations that claim such a long lasting power. I don't know about the 24h thing but it made it through 10 hours in the middle of August without batting an eye. I won't lie, I was quite impressed. It's a very good foundation, especially for the hotter months, but it seriously reeks like roses which is a huge downside for me. I'm absolutely gutted to give it the thumbs-down but if you're on the market for a luminous long lasting foundation and the heavy scent doesn't bother you, it's definitely worth a try.

004 It's like the oily skin version of the Silk crème foundation: it's harder to sheer out because it drags a little on my normal-to-dry skin but I bet it would glide better on oilier complexions. Lasts all day without looking cakey or greasy. It has a 'lit from within' finish that looks very natural despite the full coverage, but it's not as glowy as the Silk crème one. You may want to check this out if you have oily skin and some imperfections to hide, or if you just enjoy full coverage and you're on the market for a silicone-free formula.

005 I was probably too worked up by all the ecstatic reviews and was expecting too much, but I stared at the mirror expectantly, waiting for the wow effect to come and nothing happened. This foundation feels light and fresh and gives a nice flawless finish with a soft focus effect, but I had the feeling I was using a lot more product than usual and at the end of the day it didn't look so different from other foundations. In short, good but not enough to write home about; besides I have this big issue with YSL makeup, which involves mostly the mascaras and now this foundation: the scent is so strong and persistent I can literally smell it on my face all day long, which is flipping annoying. I wear shade B10, the lightest of the beige range, which is a good match, but if I'd ever give it another go I'd probably try BD10, the lightest between the golden shades, 'cause B10 it's still a little too pink for my liking.

Excuse the lack of pictures but it felt kinda pointless to photograph the sample jars...

Quasi sicuramente ne possiedo più del necessario eppure ogni volta che un nuovo fondo compare sul mercato mi esalto e non vedo l'ora di provarlo.

Anche se swatches e test veloci al counter sono comunque utili, credo che il miglior modo per scoprire se un prodotto faccia davvero per me è quello di provarlo a casa, con la luce naturale, usando il mio primer ed i miei pennelli. Sfortunatamente non molti brand capiscono questa necessità e molti counter non sono nemmeno attrezzati per i campioncini; per questo ho preso l'abitudine di portarmi dei barattolini nella borsa per essere pronta ad ogni evenienza e vi consiglio di fare altrettanto. Ovviamente non tutti i prodotti che provo risultano in un acquisto oppure in una recensione completa, ma ho pensato comunque di condividere delle impressioni veloci.

001 Visto che l'Healthy mix è il mio fondotinta di fascia bassa preferito per tutti i giorni, ero molto curiosa di provare la versione Serum, che è studiata specificamente per le pelli secche. Circa un mese fa io e Alessandra, la blogger dietro a Dotted around, abbiamo fatto una piccolo swap di campioncini e tra le altre cose mi ha inviato un barattolino di Vanilla #51. Offre una coprenza da leggera a media discretamente modulabile ed ha un bel finish semi-opaco, ad effetto pelle. Ricevo sempre molti complimenti quando indosso i prodotti Bourjois, grazie alle caratteristiche defatiganti ed illuminanti. Purtroppo le tonalità disponibili sono poche ed il range andrebbe decisamente migliorato. Adoro la profumazione fruttata e l'idea di un siero mischiato al fondotinta, che tratta le pelle mentre lo si indossa.

002 Mi piace perchè è il fondotinta ad alta coprenza con il finish più naturale che abbia provato in tantissimo tempo. E' molto modulabile ed a seconda della quantità di prodotto e dello strumento utilizzati si può applicare piò o meno sheer fino ad una coprenza quasi totale senza problemi. Ed è anche un ottimo correttore, il che può tornare utile per quei giorni in cui si è un po' di fretta. Preferisco applicarlo con lo stippling brush di real techniques o con il 130 di MAC, perchè al momento la mia pelle è in buone condizioni e mi basta un velo di prodotto. Il finish è radioso e luminoso e la formula oil free dura a lungo senza appesantire. Avevo un sample di Cream ivory che è un po' troppo scuro per me al momento, ma la tonalità più chiara, Soft Ivory, dovrebbe essere perfetta per il mio colorito invernale.

003 La prima volta che ho provato questo fondotinta mi ha ricordato alla lontana il mitico Pro Lumiere di Chanel, per la luminosità che sembra provenire dall'interno. Il Teint idole non è altrettanto radioso e non ha quell'effetto quasi bagnato, ma si sfuma altrettanto facilmente ed ha un aspetto satinato che un po' inusuale per un fondotinta a lunga tenuta. Non mi pronuncio per le 24 ore, ma ha resistito per 10 ore in pieno agosto senza fare una piega. Non lo nascondo, mi ha davvero impressionata. E' un ottimo fondotinta, specialmente per i mesi più caldi, ma ha una fortissima profumazione di rose che per me è un un serio punto a sfavore. Con sommo dispiacere lo devo bocciare per questo, ma se siete alla ricerca di una base a lunga durata e luminosa e la profumazione non v'infastidisce vale la pena provarlo.

004 Questo sembra la versione per pelli grasse del fondo Silk crème: è più difficile modularne la coprenza perchè scorre un po' a fatica sulla mia pelle normale/secca ma scommetto che l'applicazione sarebbe più semplice su pelli miste e più grasse. Dura tutto il giorno senza quel fastidioso effetto di prodotto in eccesso o lucidità. Dona una luminosità leggera e molto naturale nonostante la coprenza totale, ma non è illuminante come il Silk crème. Dategli un'occhiata se avete la pelle grassa e volete coprire cicatrici ed imperfezioni, o se semplicemente apprezzate i fondi molto coprenti e siete alla ricerca di una formula senza silicone.

005 Forse mi sono fatta trascinare dalle recensioni estatiche e mi aspettavo troppo, ma durante il test sono rimasta davanti allo specchio per cinque minuti buoni in attesa dell'effetto wow, che però non è mai arrivato. Questo fondotinta è fresco e leggero e perfeziona la pelle grazie alle particelle riflettenti, ma mentre lo applicavo avevo la sensazione di star utilizzando molto più prodotto del solito ed alla fin fine il risultato non era così diverso da quello di altri fondi illuminanti. In breve è buono, ma non ho sentito la necessità di correre a comprarlo; tra l'altro ho un problema con il makeup di YSL che è iniziato con i mascara ed ora ho riscontrato anche con il Touche eclat: la profumazione è così forte e persistente che posso sentirmela sul viso tutto il giorno. Fastidiosissimo! B10, la tonalità più chiara dei sottotoni neutri è un buon match per la mia carnagione, ma nel caso dovessi dargli una seconda possibilità, credo proprio che proverò BD10, il più chiaro dei sottotoni dorati, perchè c'è una punta di rosa di troppo in B10.

Review: Burberry Velvet foundation

About two weeks ago I was hanging around the mall waiting for an event to start and I took the chance to check some of the new arrivals and swatch a couple of foundations I had my eyes on. I stopped at the Burberry counter out of habit and I was pleasantly surprised to see the new fall collection on display: while the lip and eye shades we recently saw on the catwalks were definitely interesting, the one thing that really caught my eyes was the Velvet foundation, a brand new addition to the beauty range for Fall.

At first I thought the name Velvet was just another way to say matte. Instead the finish of this foundation is something I've never seen before: it's silky soft to the touch, and looks like velvet on the skin, like a foundation and a setting powder all together. It's hard to nail a description here, but instead of looking matte and flat, this base looks soft and healthy, like the skin of a peach.

Since the formula is quite thick, I find the best way to apply this foundation is with a dense buffing brush to really work the pigment into the skin and pack the product only in those areas were you need a little more coverage, or with a sponge to achieve maximum coverage.

I didn't have the chance to wear it for more than 8-9 hours, but it lasted very well on me, with just a little bit of shine breaking through on the tip of the nose at the end of the day. A primer didn't make any difference in the longevity of the product and there's no need for a setting powder, even if oilier skins might need to set it.

It hydrates the skin without the typical dewy finish of moisturizing foundations, and provides medium coverage with an oil-free and long-lasting formula, which is still lightweight and very comfortable to wear. It contains wild rose extract to hydrate and shields the skin from natural elements. The faint baby powder scent is quite pleasant and this comes from a person that usually hates scented foundations.

Extra brownie points for the matte packaging with signature check on the lid that feels very elegant without being too heavy and the pump that has a lock position.

The shade match with my skin tone is so perfect I want to cry: the lady at the counter said that I have a 'very Burberry skin tone' and it's true. If you're pale and struggling to find the right foundation match maybe Burberry is the answer you were waiting for: the lightest shade, Trench 201, is perfect for me - I'm N10 for the record -, and the shade range includes other 7 shades to cover pale to medium-dark skin tones.

It's a high-end foundation and in this case you get exactly what you pay for. Even if you don't feel like splurging, the unusual finish makes it definitely worth a try at a counter.

Circa un paio di settimane fa gironzolavo alLa Rinascente in attesa che iniziasse un evento e ne ho approfittato per dare un'occhiata alle nuove uscite e swatchare un paio di fondotinta che mi ero ripromessa di provare. Per forza d'abitudine mi sono fermata al counter Burberry e sono stata piacevolmente sorpresa dalla nuova collezione autunnale in bella mostra sul bancone: sebbene i nuovi ombretti e rossetti, freschi freschi di passerella, fossero indubbiamente interessanti, il prodotto che mi ha colpito di più è stato il fondotinta Velvet, la new entry della linea beauty per l'autunno.

All'inizio pensavo che il nome Velvet fosse solo un altro modo per dire matte. In realtà il finish di questo fondotinta è un qualcosa di mai visto prima per me: morbido al tatto e simile al velluto sulla pelle, come un fondotinta con polvere fissante inclusa. E' dura da spiegare, ma invece di essere opaca e piatta, questa base ha un aspetto morbido e sano, come la pelle di una pesca.

Visto che la consistenza è abbastanza densa, trovo che lo strumento migliore per applicarlo sia un buffing brush, un pennello compatto che permetta di lavorare e stendere per bene uno strato sottile di prodotto, ed eventualmente insistere solo nelle aree che necessitano di una maggiore coprenza, oppure una spugnetta per ottenere la coprenza massima.

Non ho avuto la possibilità di indossarlo per più di 8-9 ore ma la durata è veramente ottima, con solo un pochino di lucidità sulla punta del naso a fine giornata. Non ho riscontrato differenze di longevità con o senza primer e non serve fissarlo con una polvere, anche se pelli più grasse della mia potrebbero sentirne la necessità.

Idrata la pelle senza quel finish luminoso tipico dei fondotinta più idratanti e la formula oil-free e a lunga tenuta, che è comunque leggera e molto confortevole, offre una coprenza media. Contiene estratti di rosa selvatica per idratare e protegge dagli elementi atmosferici esterni. La leggera profumazione di borotalco è piuttosto piacevole, e ve lo dice una che raramente sopporta i fondotinta profumati.

Punti extra per il packaging opaco con il famoso motivo check che è elegante e non pesa troppo, e per l'erogatore che ha un sistema di bloccaggio.

Il match con la  mia carnagione è così perfetto che quasi mi commuovo: la responsabile del counter mi faceva notare che ho una 'pelle molto Burberry' ed ha ragione. Se siete pallide e fate fatica a trovare il colore giusto, forse Burberry è la risposta ai vostri problemi: la tonalità più chiara, Trench 201, è perfetta per me - che sono più o meno un N10 per la cronaca -, ma ci sono altre 7 tonalità per carnagioni da pallide a medio-scure.

E' un fondotinta di un marchio costoso, ma in questo caso pagate per una performance coi fiocchi. E anche se non ve la sentite di spendere così tanto, il finish così particolare merita senz'altro una prova al counter.

Lily Lolo is a fairly new brand for me. I first stumbled on it while I was browsing the brand list on Feelunique and the catching name tickled my interest. After some research I found out that it’s been around for about 4 years and has now a solid reputation as high quality but still affordable mineral makeup brand in the UK. Leading product of their line is their mineral foundation and I now understand why.

My first impression was of a high quality foundation which performs like more expensive ones. The application is smooth and effortless, the coverage easily buildable to medium, depending on what brush you do use. Minor imperfections and redness are corrected but the skin texture still shows through for a natural look. The demi-matte finish reminds me a lot of the MAC Mineralize foundation loose but with better lasting power: it lasted 10-11 hours with no oil breaking through in spite of the unforgiving summer weather and the high temperatures. The use of a primer underneath didn’t make any visible difference, if not allowing a slightly smoother application on my normal to dry skin.

The best thing is this foundation comes in 18 shades, with pink, yellow and peach undertones. I’m N10 and Chinadoll, second to lightest shade described as pale, neutral with balanced undertones, is the perfect match, and that’s extraordinary per se considering how often my skin tone gets neglected. The color selection is wonderful and the website offers true to color pictures and neat, accurate descriptions to make the color selection as easy as you can get with online shopping.
If you’re one of those who can guess the right shade at first glance, you can order a full size 10g jar for £12.49, a fairly good price for a cruelty-free, vegan, 100% natural mineral foundation. Or if you’re feeling less brave you can order a couple of .75g sample jars for £1.29 each and get up to 10 uses. And if lazy is you middle name, Lily Lolo offers the Ready Set Glow sample set that comes in light, light medium and medium, with 3 foundation samples within the same color range but with different undertones, a silk finishing powder sample jar and the cutest mini kabuki brush, all for £11.99.

Overall I’m extremely happy with my Lily Lolo shopping experience and with the products I purchased. I won’t buy the full size foundation quite yet, since I’ve got way too many opened bottles and jars to finish first – see how I’m trying to be responsible here? –, but this mineral goodness goes straight in the forget-me-not product list.

Lily Lolo è una scoperta recente. L’ho incontrato per la prima volta mentre curiosavo nella lista di brand disponibili su Feelunique ed il nome particolare mi ha incuriosita. Dopo qualche ricerca ho scoperto che è sul mercato da più o meno 4 anni e che si è fatto la reputazione di marchio di qualità ma comunque accessibile, di makeup minerale in Gran Bretagna. Il prodotto leader della linea è il fondotinta in polvere libera e posso dire di capirne la ragione. 

La prima impressione che ho avuto è quella di un fondotinta di qualità con le performance di prodotti più costosi. L’applicazione è semplice e con il pennello giusto si può arrivare facilmente ad una coprenza media. Piccole imperfezioni e rossore si coprono perfettamente, ma la texture della pelle è ancora visibile per un effetto naturale. Il finish quasi opaco mi ricorda il Mineralizefoundation loose di MAC ma con una durata maggiore: è durato 10-11 ore senza la comparsa di lucidità, nonostante il caldo estivo che non perdona. L’uso del primer non fa molta differenza se non nell’applicazione lievemente facilitata sulla mia pelle, da normale a secca in questo periodo.

La caratteristica che più apprezzo è la gamma di colori formata da 18 tonalità, con sottotoni gialli, rosa e pesca. Io sono N10 e Chinadoll, la seconda colorazione più chiara descritta sul sito come pallido e neutro, con sottotoni bilanciati, è il colore perfetto per me, un miracolo di per sé considerando quanti marchi si dimentichino delle carnagioni chiare come la mia. La gamma è strepitosa ed il sito offre foto realistiche e descrizioni accurate per rendere l’acquisto il più semplice possibile.
Se siete tra quelli che riescono ad indovinare la propria colorazione a prima vista, potete ordinare la giara full size da 10g al costo di €16 circa, un prezzo più che buono per un fondotinta creulty free, vegano e naturale al 100%. Se invece non vi sentite coraggiose, potete acquistare un paio di sample da .75g per €1.60 circa l’uno e testare ciascun fondotinta per circa 10 usi.
E se siete pigrissime e non avete voglia di scegliere i sample, è disponibile il set Ready Set Glow in 3 tonalità, che contiene 3 fondotinta della stessa gamma cromatica ma con sottotoni differenti, un campioncino della polvere fissante e d un carinissimo mini pennello kabuki, al costo di €15 circa. 

Concludendo, sono molto soddisfatta della mia prima esperienza con Lily Lolo e dei prodotti che ho acquistato. Non comprerò il fondotinta full size per il momento, semplicemente perché ho già un sacco di bottiglie e giare iniziate da finire e ci sono altre basi che vorrei testare prima – visto come sono responsabile? – però va senz’altro ad aggiungersi alla lista dei prodotti non-ti-scordar-di-me.
