LUSH Charity Pot

LUSH Charity pot 100g £6.95/€10
It's no secret that I love shopping for beauty products, and even if I try really hard to restrain myself, some brands are just too tempting to hold back. Lately LUSH has become one of those brands: walking out of a LUSH shop without a bag gets harder and harder every time. Of course I'm always happy to sacrifice myself in the name of this blog, but I can't help feeling a bit guilty for my quickly-emptying piggy bank.
Thanks to my latest LUSH-ious purchase, tho, I stepped out of the store completely guilt-free, simply feeling pleased with myself. Charity pot body lotion is the kind of product that allows you to do something good for someone else while satisfying your inner shoppingholic at the same time.

Charity pot is a light, loose lotion which is easy to apply and sinks in quickly without residues. It's a multi-tasking product that can be used all over the body, hands included, since it's not greasy at all. I do believe it can also be used as a facial moisturizer, but personally I'd use it only at night 'cause the rich formula might interfere with makeup.
The light texture and fast absorbing properties make it perfect for spring and the warmer months. Skin feels soft and deeply moisturized, and you won't have to wait to wear your clothes afterwards.
I'm not so keen on the scent.  It's a little odd to be honest: with all the flower extracts and the almond oil I was expecting something fresher and floral; instead it's quite a heavy, chocolate-y scent mostly because of the fairtrade organic cocoa butter. It's not unpleasant by any means - apparently it smells like Turkish delight and I know many people love it - but I'd prefer something lighter and crispier. This sent in a way is very wintery.

As it happens with MAC Viva Glam lipsticks, every single penny you pay for a pot - except for VATs that go to the government - is donated to various charities all around the world to support animal and human rights and environmental protection.
And speaking of environment and recycling, don't forget to keep your empties: if you bring 5 black pots back to any LUSH store you'll get a fresh face mask for free. The gift that keeps on giving, you see.

As I said I'm not completely sold on the scent and next time I'd like to try something else, but Charity pot is something I'll definitely keep in mind especially when looking for a gift.
Have you tried Charity pot?

Buonissima fino in fondo, insomma.

Review: Liz Earle Cleanse & polish Lavender and rose

The classic Liz Earle Hot cloth Cleanse & polish has been a favorite of mine for almost a year now and a staple of my evening routine: I like to alternate it to my Clarisonic to remove my makeup and I reach for it every time my skin is a little stressed out by the all new products I'm testing and needs a little back to basics.

Liz Earle Cleanse & polish Special edition Rose & Lavender £19.75/€24.70 - LizEarle.com
For this limited edition the already fabulous best-selling formula, made only of natural active ingredients, was enriched by rose petal and lavender essentials oils, to soothe the skin and help relaxing after a long day. In case you're not familiar with this product, one pump of the buttery texture dissolves all the makeup, the grime and the dirt that pile on the skin on daily basis, then the muslin cloth, soaked in warm water, removes the cleanser while gently lifting the dead skin cells to reveal a soft, radiant skin, ready for the next steps of your night routine.
Being a huge lavender fan, I love the deep calming scent and much prefer it to the standard herbal one. Honestly I'd love a permanent rose & lavender C&P, maybe with matching night cream and toner; the Liz Earle instant boost toner is one of my favorites - and also one of the few toners that don't dry me out - but I find the regular scent a little too refreshing to follow a relaxing facial.

Even if the special edition graphic design is gorgeous, I'm not particularly keen on the packaging: it's pretty and does its job, but you can't really tell how much product is left in the bottle until it's over; thankfully the regular C&P comes in a tube size as well.
This special edition is slightly bigger than the usual one - 150ml against the standard 100ml -, which justifies the higher price; also 2£ for each sale will be donated to the Prince's Trust, a youth charity that mentors young people either into further education or business opportunities, helping them build a solid future for themselves.

Keep in mind that it comes with two muslin clothes - at least mine did - so there's no need to buy the extra ones.
I'll be buying a couple of back-ups with my next order for sure, 'cause unfortunately once the Rose & Lavender C&P is gone, is gone for good. All good things always come to an end, after all.

In October we wear pink

breast cancer awareness
OPI You glitter be good to me & I think in pink nail polish duo // Glamglow Cure Sexy mud mask // Nails Inc. Pinkie Pink nail polish // Origins breast cancer duo // Clinique Breast cancer awareness Chubby stick set // Estee Lauder Dream collection lip set // Bobbi Brown Pink peony set
October is Breast cancer awareness month and once again the beauty industry got involved to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support. Breast cancer afflicts millions of women worldwide but this year's Estee Lauder Pink ribbon features a touch of blue to represent the 1% of breast cancer cases diagnosed in men too. For each sold product the brands will donate part of the sale to the various foundations fighting for the cause around the world.
In the picture above you can see only a handful of the many limited edition products hitting stores right now: Ciaté, Crème de la Mer, Elemis, Tweezerman and many others joined the fight with luxury hand creams, skin care sets, nail polishes and makeup products, giving you the chance to 'Think pink' and give something back while staying beautiful.
You can also make a donation to your local Breast cancer reaserch foundations; even a dollar can make the difference. And remember to get checked, cause breast cancer can be fought if diagnosed in time.

Is there any special product that cought your eye? I'm already in love with the nail polishes, especially with the Ciaté Paint the town pink set, and the Origins Peace of mind & Make a difference set. Such a shame the brand isn't available here...

MAC Viva Glam against AIDS

Today, as you may know, is World AIDS day. It’s always nice to take a moment to see what you can do to help people: giving feels great, we all know that. But when there’s the chance to give to charity and treat ourselves at the same time, we all are tempted to do some more.
MAC has been supporting the fight against HIV/AIDS since 1994 with the VIVA GLAM project, devolving 100% of the sale price of the VG lipsticks and glosses to the cause and achieving remarkable success. Last year the six permanent shades in the VG collection were joined by the beautiful Lady Gaga and Cindy Lauper shades, unfortunately for a limited time only, but I believe the new Lady Gaga2 will be available till February 2012; also both the old and the current shades are now re-promoted in a special Christmas set with a lovely red pouch, that would make the perfect gift for a makeup junkie friend.
Take a look to the VIVA GLAM products here.

l-r: VG VI special edition, VG Gaga, VG Gaga2, VG Cindy glosses.

l-r: VG VI, VG Gaga2, VG Gaga, VG Cindy lipsticks.

I was amazed by the many things that can be done with just one VIVA GLAM product: safe places to sleep for two nights in institutions, food and snacks for a whole week, provide three psychosocial counseling sessions with a client, provide a 75-day supply of HIV/AIDS medicine in child-friendly formulation, ensure that a pregnant woman newly diagnosed with HIV/AIDS is given the hope, education and encouragement to know that she can deliver a healthy baby… and so much more. A full list can be found here.
Go grab yourselves some VIVA GLAM products, let’s share!
You’ll look prettier, inside and outside.
