Fab Five: Favourite Drugstore Concealers

I don't usually venture down supermarket aisles for my makeup, especially when it comes down to foundations and concealers; sensitive skin and cheap products don't usually go well together and I should probably add that the typical drugstore shade range doesn't embrace ghostly-pale complexions like mine too often. However I do own some wallet-pleasing gems that I collected along the way, and some of them are definitely well loved and even part of my daily routine.

Stick concealers are not my first choice for my particular skin type - they tend to be quite drying and look heavy on me -, however they are perfect for oilier complexions and a great resource for bad skin days. The Revlon Photoready Concealer (£6.49)'s high coverage formula is thick and creamy, almost hard to blend but perfect for spot concealing. I wouldn't use it on larger areas or around the eyes because it still looks a bit too obvious for my liking and those who love a radiant finish should definitely look away, but it does the job and lasts very well throughout the day. Also from Revlon, the Colorstay Concealer (£6.99) is a good option for dry complexions and radiant skin lovers. It's quite luminous, therefore it could not be the smartest choice if you're looking to cover raised spots, but on the other hand is brilliant for the under-eyes and for scars and hyperpigmentation. The coverage is high enough to conceal even the most stubborn dark circles and as the name suggests it stays put for many hours without budging or looking dry and cakey.

Everyone and their grandmothers have probably heard of the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer (£4.19). I gave in to the hype a few months ago and let me tell you, it was love at very first swipe. For such a light consistency, the pigmentation is really amazing. It blends well, lasts all day and is uber easy to build for the ultimate flawless coverage. I find it a little too dry to use for my dark circles but it does wonders on any blemish and discolouration and it has quickly become a staple of mine.
A great all-arounder, that works well on both imperfections and darkness under the eyes, is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer (£7.99). This is like a high-end concealer disguised inside a cheap packaging, with an extra fruit therapy boost to improve radiance and micro circulation. I'm totally in love with the fruit salad scent and the light-as-air texture. It blends seamlessly, providing great coverage and a super natural appearance, in a 'my skin but better' kind of way. The neutral yellow-ish undertones work well at counteracting redness and brightening as well.

Finally, the most recent addition to my concealer stash is a bit of a bitter sweet find. As the packaging states, the Bourjois Happy Light Ultra-covering Concealer (£8.99) delivers an amazing coverage which is medium to full, depending on the application method. Consistency is quite dense, almost waxy, and I find it's best applied with fingertips, to warm the product up and blend it more easily. It lasts a very long time and doesn't move around or build up into fine lines. It makes the skin look really soft and supple, with an inner radiance that looks very nice particularly in the under-eye area. I do like this concealer a lot; the problem is it only comes in two shades, 22 Beige Rose and 21 Ivoire, which is the lightest of the two and the one I picked up, assuming it would match my 51 Healthy Mix Foundation. Unfortunately it's a bit darker than that - it settles between 51 and 52, I'd say - and requires a lot of blending to look good on my lighter base. Bourjois really needs to work on the shade range, which is definitely not as good as the products themselves at this stage.

Di norma non mi avventuro tanto spesso tra le corsie del supermercato per comprare makeup, in special modo se si tratta di correttori e fondotinta; pelle sensibile ed ingredienti a buon mercato non vanno sempre d'accordo, senza nemmeno menzionare la generale penuria di colori adatti ai fantasmini come me. Ci sono però alcuni prodotti amici del portafoglio che ho scovato quà e là, e che sono stati o sono tutt'ora dei punti fermi della mia routine.

I correttori in stick non sono la mia prima scelta per il mio particolare tipo di pelle - tendono a sembrare ancora più secchi e molto evidenti -, però sono perfetti per le pelli più grasse ed un ottimo alleato per nascondere i brufoletti più testardi. La formula ad alta coprenza del Revlon Photoready Concealer (€10.95) è molto spessa e densa, quasi difficile da stendere all'inizio, e quindi perfetta per le correzioni di precisione. Non credo lo userei su aree più ampie o vicino agli occhi perchè l'effetto cerone è dietro l'angolo; inoltre gli amanti del finish luminoso dovrebbero tenersene ben alla larga, ma fa il suo lavoro e la correzione resiste praticamente intatta per tutta la giornata. Sempre di Revlon, il Colorstay Concealer (€10.95)è più adatto per pelli più secche e per chi cerca un effetto più naturale. E' discretamente luminoso, quindi potrebbe non essere il prodotto giusto per coprire imperfezioni e cisti, ma d'altra parte è fantastico per la zona perioculare, cicatrici e iperpigmentazione. E' abbastanza coprente da correggere occhiaie anche molto pronunciate e come il nome suggerisce resta al suo posto per molte ore senza seccare.

Credo che a questo punto anche mia nonna abbia sentito parlare del Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer (€5). Ho ceduto al tam tam dei blog inglesi qualche mese fa e devo ammetterlo, è stato amore a prima applicazione. Per una texture così leggera, la pigmentazione è incredibile. Si sfuma con facilità, dura tutto il giorno ed è semplice da modulare per una coprenza perfetta. Personalmente lo trovo un po' troppo secco per la zona occhiaie ma è magnifico su rossori ed imperfezioni, tanto che è diventato indispensabile per la mia base.
Un correttore estremamente versatile, che copre perfettamente sia occhiaie sia brufoletti e cicatrici è il Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer (€9). Nel dubbio io lo scambierei per un correttore molto più costoso nascosto in un tubetto di poco conto, con una sferzata extra di vitamine della frutta per migliorare la micro circolazione e la luminosità del'incarnato. Sono innamorata persa del profumo di macedonia di frutta e della texture leggera come l'aria. Sulla pelle appare così naturale da sembrare impercettibile, come 'la mia pelle ma meglio', e copre qualunque imperfezione senza problemi. Il sottotono giallo appena accennato contrasta i rossori ed illumina il colorito, donando immediatamente un aspetto più riposato.

Per finire, l'ultimo arrivato nella mia collezione è una scoperta dolce-amara. Come anticipato dalla confezione, il Bourjois Happy Light Ultra-covering Concealer (€9.60)offre una coprenza spettacolare che va da media a totale, a seconda dell'applicazione. La consistenza è piuttosto densa, quasi cerosa, e trovo che il modo migliore per applicare il prodotto sia con le dita, per scaldarlo e così sfumarlo più facilmente. La durata è altrettanto eccezionale, non si muove nè si accumula nelle pieghette. Regala alla pelle un aspetto pieno e morbido, con una luminosità appena percettibile che dona particolarmente alla zona perioculare, illuminando lo sguardo. Mi piace molto ma c'è un problema: è disponibile in sole due tonalità, 22 Beige Rose e 21 Ivoire, che è la più chiara delle due e quella che ho acquistato, convinta che si abbinasse al mio fondotinta Healthy Mix #51. Purtroppo è più scuro - direi che si avvicina più alla tonalità 52 - e richiede un bel po' di lavoro aggiuntivo per sembrare naturale sulla mia base più chiara. Qualcuno alla Bourjois deve mettersi d'impegno e lavorare sulla gamma di colori perchè, così com'è, non è all'altezza della qualità dei prodotti.

Beauty S.O.S. - The Pick Me Up Facial

Yesterday I woke up feeling miserable, with a congested cold, and with of course an event to attend to in the evening. With so little time to fix things, triage is the way and after some rummaging in my skincare drawer and a quick sortie inside my kit, I put together this little rescue team.

When I'm sick my skin is the first to give in and can get really blotchy and dehydrated. Thankfully the night before I've been smart enough to slap on some Origins Dink Up Intensive Overnight Mask (£22) before bed and I was able to limit the damage. Drink Up is a great option to quick-fix dry, lackluster skin. As the name suggests it's a sleep-in mask; you apply it before bed, instead of your standard night skincare routine and forget about it till morning. Not only it does smell utterly delicious - which I understand, is not necessary but it's always a nice extra - but leaves the skin so plump and deeply moisturized and definitely much more manageable. I use it every time my skin feels a bit tight and rough or after particularly stressful days, just to be sure not to wake up in the morning looking awful.
Despite the intense hydration, my skin was still looking a bit grey and that's when the Bliss Triple Oxigen Instant Energizing Mask 10ml (£5.10) stepped in. It's a lovely instant fix mask that starts foaming on damp skin, and in less than 5 minutes brings out the glow, as well as cleaning up the pores to prevent breakouts. I love using this one in the morning; the light tingling sensation is really refreshing and truly energizing. After bringing some colour back to my cheeks, I then took care of my puffy eyes with a bit of Origins No Puffery Cooling Roll-on (£24). This product hasn't left my side since I bought it. As a contact wearer I get really itchy eyes and by the end of the day they can feel a bit sore. The metal rolling ball feels amazing on the under eye area and distributes a thin layer of product I then work into the skin with a few light pinches. The cooling effect is so soothing and the product works really well at both reducing puffiness and brightening dark circles. I've been using it like crazy lately.
I've also been reaching a lot for the NUXE Reve De Miel Lip Balm (£9.50) to moisturize my chapped lips and my nostrils as well. Since I've been blowing my nose every 10 seconds, I wanted to avoid redness and dry patches and so far I managed to keep both at bay.

Lastly, before putting my makeup on, I pulled out the heavy artillery. The Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (£29) is one of the most reliable products I own and I can't recommend it enough. It can be used as a facial mask but I like it best as a primer. I gently smooth a thin layer all over my face and dab what's left on my hands on my eyelids and under the eyes. It instantly adds a lot of luminosity and tightens the skin and of course helps foundation to stay put for longer. It's the classic million-dollar-skin product and lifts the skin like nothing else. Unfortunately it can only be used sparingly otherwise the skin could get used to it and the wow effect could disappear.

Makeup of course played a major role in my routine but as usual a great base makes all the difference in the world. What are the products you reach for when you want to look your best even on your worst days?

Ieri mattina mi sono svegliata in uno stato pietoso, con un tremendo raffreddore, e naturalmente un evento a cui partecipare in serata. Con così poco tempo per limitare i danni, il triage mi è sembrato l'unica soluzione e dopo aver frugato nel cestino dei prodotti skincare ed una rapida sortita nel mio kit, ho messo insieme questa squadra di pronto intervento.

Quando sono malata la mia pelle è la prima a cedere e può diventare molto secca e poco uniforme. Fortunatamente la sera prima, viste le avvisaglie del malanno, ho avuto la prontezza di applicare un po' di Origins Dink Up Intensive Overnight Mask (€25) prima di andare a letto, riuscendo così a limitare i danni. Drink Up è un'ottima opzione quando si tratta di rimediare velocemente a pelle secca ed opaca. Come suggerisce il nome, si tratta di una maschera per la notte, da applicare prima di andare a dormire ed in sostituzione della normale routine serale. Non solo ha un profumo delizioso - che capisco, non è essenziale, ma è sempre un extra piacevole - ma lascia la pelle del viso soda e profondamente idratata, ed ovviamente più facile da gestire. La uso ogni volta che provo quella fastidiosa sensazione di pelle che tira o dopo giornate particolarmente stressanti, giusto per essere sicura di non svegliarmi con una faccia disastrosa.
Nonostante l'intensa idratazione avevo comunque un colorito un po' grigiastro ed è qui che è entrata in gioco la Bliss Triple Oxigen Instant Energizing Mask 10ml (€6.25). E' un'ottima maschera ad effetto rapido che si trasforma in schiuma a contatto con la pelle bagnata ed in meno di 5 minuti dona luminosità all'incarnato e ripulisce i pori per prevenire future imperfezioni. Adoro utilizzarla al mattino: la leggera sensazione delle bollicine che scoppiano è molto rinfrescante e davvero energizzante. Dopo aver sistemato il colorito, sono passata a gli occhi gonfi con un velo di Origins No Puffery Cooling Roll-on (€26). Questo prodotto è diventato assolutamente indispensabile per me e non ha lasciato il mio fianco dal momento dell'acquisto. Visto che porto le lenti a contatto secchezza e gonfiore sono all'ordine del giorno, soprattutto verso sera. L'applicatore a sfera ha un effetto fantastico sulla pelle e distribuisce una piccola quantità di gel rinfrescante che poi picchietto con i polpastrelli, aiutandomi con leggeri pizzicotti per drenare. La sensazione di freschezza è piacevolissima ed il prodotto riduce il gonfiore con efficacia ed illumina le occhiaie. Ne sto usando quantità industriali ultimamente.
Ho sfruttato tantissimo anche il NUXE Reve De Miel Lip Balm (€12)per ammorbidire le labbra secche e proteggere le narici. Utilissimo per tenere a bada rossore e secchezza nonostante l'uso continuo di fazzolettini.

Infine, pochi minuti prima di applicare il fondotinta, ho tirato fuori l'artiglieria pesante. Il Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (€32.50) è uno dei prodotti più affidabili che possiedo e non posso raccomandarlo abbastanza. Può essere utilizzato anche come maschera ma trovo che funzioni al meglio come primer. Ne spalmo una piccola quantità sul viso e picchietto quel che resta sulle mani su palpebre e zona occhiaie. Dona luminosità e compatta la pelle quasi instantaneamente, oltre a far sì che il fondotinta duri più a lungo. E' il classico prodotto da utilizzare nelle occasioni speciali, per una pelle da un milione di dollari. Purtroppo va utilizzato con moderazione, altrimenti la pelle potrebbe abituarsi ed i benefici finirebbero con lo sparire.

Naturalmente il makeup ha avuto un ruolo fondamentale nel rendermi presentabile, ma come sempre un' ottima base fa tutta la differenza del mondo. Quali sono i prodotti miracolosi cui ricorrete per essere al meglio anche quando non vi sentite al meglio?

The Budget Buy: Bourjois Cream Blushes

Isn't it beautiful when something purchased on a whim turns out to be amazing?
Despite having heard a lot of nice things about the latest Bourjois release, I was still on the fence about these beauties - I wasn't sure I could fit another cream blush in my stash to be completely honest - but when Asos put them on offer I knew it was time to take a leap of faith and I'm so glad I did. It turned out not only I did need one of these blushes in my life but actually I needed them all. Oh so naughty.

The Bourjois Little Round Pot Cream Blushes (£7.99) are a dream to work with: they blend so well, go on really nicely and are easily buildable for statement looks. The cream-to-powder finish reminds me of the NARS formula, only the texture here is creamier and less thick and for that so much easier to apply. The beautiful skin-like finish is extremely natural and flattering and the lasting power is really good, but most products tend to last a long time on me anyways, so I might not be the best judge in this case. They're best applied with a buffing brush or a blender sponge, but fingers will do all the same.
They're available in 4 pretty shades but I hope the range will include some brights in the future as well. Keep in mind I am as pale as living things can go and while these blushes look lovely on my porcelain skin they might get lost on deeper complexions.
Healthy Glow 02 is probably the most popular shade and the first one I picked. Is a pale coral that would suit most skin tones and as the name suggests gives a natural, healthy glow to the skin. Bonne mine look enthusiasts like me will love Nude Velvet 01 as much as I do: it's the most perfect nude blush with just the right amount of pink but verging slightly on the peach side. It's simple but so pretty nonetheless.
I usually stay clear of pale pinks as, save for a few exceptions, they tend to look a bit artificial on me and bring out the redness in my skin, however Rose Tender 03 is a great pick-me up pink, fresh and so cheering. It's a touch shimmery in the pan but the silver sparkles are pretty much undetectable on the cheeks.
Last but not least Sweet Cherry 04 is a medium reddish pink with a hint of plum, which provides a lovely Snow white flush. It might actually be my favourite of the bunch and I can tell is going to be a staple of mine for the cooler months to come.

Bourjois is quickly becoming one of the most exciting brands on the market, don't you think? Have you tried these blushes? What's your favourite shade?

Non è bellissimo quando un prodotto comprato d'impulso si dimostra fantastico?
Nonostante avessi già letto alcuni commenti positivi sull'ultima proposta Bourjois, ero ancora in dubbio sull'acquisto - il mio primo problema riguardava il mio cassetto strabordante di blush ed il dubbio che potesse contenerne ancora - ma quando Asos li ha messi in saldo ho deciso di buttarmi e sono felicissima di averlo fatto. Non solo ho scoperto che avevo davvero bisogno di uno di questi blush nella mia vita, ma che in realtà mi servivano tutti. Sono pessima.

I Bourjois Little Round Pot Cream Blushes (€10.40) sono un sogno da applicare: si sfumano bene, si applicano facilmente ed è possibile intensificare il colore per un effetto deciso. Il finish cream-to-powder mi ricorda quello dei blush in crema di NARS, ma la texture è più cremosa e meno densa e per questo si sfumano molto più facilmente. L'aspetto finale è molto naturale, come pelle, e la durata è ottima, ma tenete presente che su di me quasi tutti i prodotti hanno una buona durata, per cui potrei non essere il miglior giudice in questo senso. Trovo che un pennello denso per il fondotinta o una spugna blender siano gli strumenti migliori per applicarli, ma anche le dita permettono di ottenere ottimi risultati.
Al momento sono disponibili in quattro colori; un po' pochini, è vero, ma spero che presto il range verrà arricchito da altre tonalità più accese. Tenete in mente che sono color obitorio, per cui sebbene questi blush si adattino perfettamente al mio incarnato di porcellana, potrebbero risultare pressochè invisibili sulle carnagioni più scure.
Healthy Glow 02 è forse la tonalità più popolare, la prima che ho comprato e nonchè la causa degli acquisti successivi. E' un corallo chiaro piuttosto universale, che, come suggerisce il nome, dona un colorito salutare e radioso alle guance. Le fan del look bonne mine senz'altro ameranno Nude Velvet 01 almeno quanto me: è il blush nude per eccezione, con un tocco di rosa ma leggeramente tendente al pesca. E' semplice ma non per questo meno grazioso.
Di solito cerco di stare alla larga dai blush rosa chiari perchè, salvo rare eccezioni, sembrano molto artificiali su di me e  tendono ad accentuare i rossori tipici delle pelli più chiare; Rose Tender 03 invece è un favoloso rosa 'tiramisù', fresco ed allegro. La calda è lievemente perlata ma l'iridescenza argentata si nota appena sulle guance.
Ultimo ma non meno importante Sweet Cherry 04, un rosa-rosso medio con una punta di prugna, perfetto per guance da Biancaneve. Credo proprio che sia quello che preferisco dei 4 e so già che avrà un posto fisso nella mia makeup bag per la stagione fredda in arrivo.

After a lot of effort I think I've finally managed to put together a mix of products that works well at keeping my skin even and nicely hydrated on a daily basis, but every now and then I still reach for some extra bits I like to incorporate to my basic routine to fix a few unexpected issues. Among my beloved masks and my precious oils, the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Pro-Recovery Skincare is one of my most reached for extras. 

Cicaplast is a skin treatment for sensitive skins recommended after dermatological procedures such as cosmetic peels and specifically created to treat and sooth irritated complexions while speeding the healing process. The highly smoothing formula acts as a barrier between skin and makeup working in fact as a waterproof primer and in the mean time copper, zinc and manganese promote the skin renewal process. I'm a sucker for products that improve the appearance of makeup and treat the skin at the same time.
I like to use it every time I experience - usually in full winter when my skin is stressed out both by the cold weather and the dry central heating - some flakiness under my cheekbones and above the eyebrows and also over any healing spot right before makeup so that concealer doesn't look patchy and blends more smoothly. From time to time I also suffer from random red spots around the eyes that can become really chapped and itchy and Cicaplast helps an awful lot with them, isolating the delicate skin and reducing redness. Finally it's my secret weapon for any client with dehydrated and stressed skin in need of an immediate moisture boost.

If you have oily and acne-prone skin I recommend you check out the Effaclar duo moisturizer which has similar properties but it's best suited for oily complexions.

It's a holy grail product for anyone with very dry and sensitive skin and works as a quick-fix for the ones who occasionally experience flakiness and dry patches. I've been using it for more than two years now and it has earned its own special place inside both my freelance kit and my skincare basket and I can guarantee it won't be leaving either of those any time soon.

Dopo un lungo processo di prove ed errori credo di essere riuscita finalmente a mettere insieme un mix di prodotti per uso quotidiano che mantengono la mia pelle uniforme e bene idratata, ma di tanto in tanto continuo ad utilizzare degli extra che inserisco nella routine per rimediare a piccoli problemi inaspettati. Tra le amate maschere e gli oli miracolosi, il La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Pro-Recovery Skincare è uno degli extra che utilizzo più spesso.

Cicaplast è un trattamento per pelli sensibili raccomandato dopo interventi dermatologici come peeling cosmetici e creato nello specifico per trattare e lenire le irritazioni ed accelerare il processo di guarigione allo stesso tempo. La formula lisciante agisce come barriera tra la pelle ed il trucco di fatto comportandosi come un primer waterproof, mentre rame, zinco e manganese promuovo il rinnovamento cellulare. Vado matta per questi prodotti che migliorano l'aspetto e l'applicazione del makeup e trattano la pelle contemporaneamente.
Lo utilizzo ogni volta che soffro di episodi di disquamazione - di solito in pieno inverno quando la pelle è messa a dura prova dalla combinazione di freddo e riscaldamento casalingo - attorno alle sopracciglia e sotto gli zigomi e ne picchietto una piccola quantità sopra ai brufoletti in via di guarigione così che correttori e polveri si sfumino al meglio e non mettano in evidenza l'imperfezione invece di nasconderla. Soffro anche di irritazioni ormonali che si presentano come piccole macchie infiammate ed extra secche e Cicaplast riduce il rossore ed isola la pelle irritata da ombretti o co che potrebbero peggiorare il prurito ed il bruciore. Ed infine è anche la mia arma segreta su tutte quelle clienti che presentano un incarnato molto secco e necessitano d'idratazione immediata prima del makeup.

Se avete la pelle grassa e soggetta ad acne vi raccomando Effaclar duo che ha proprietà simili ma è più adatto per questo tipo di problemi.

E' un prodotto holy grail per chiunque abbia la pelle molto secca o sensibile ed è utile da tenere sottomano se si soffre occasionalmente di desquamazione e secchezza. Lo utilizzo ormai da più di due anni e si è ricavato uno spazio tutto suo sia nel mio kit sia nel mio cestino di prodotti skincare e garantisco che vi resterà per un bel po' di tempo.

After hearing so many bloggers rave about it I finally decided to give it a go and purchased the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. It's basically a little pot of wonder, filled with the most highly pigmented, full coverage base you can think of and can be used either sparingly on its own or combined with primers, moisturizers, highlighters, concealers and so on to create a fresh, flawless complexion.
The sky's the limit with this multipurpose gem.

Application as an all-over foundation is a little tricky, because the product’s as close to pure pigment as you can go and it’s very thick. Be ready to blend, blend, blend like there's no tomorrow.
I can see it would work better on normal to oily skins since the skin’s natural oils would give it a nice slip making application a lot more stress-free. For dry skin like mine I recommend a good moisturizer and/or a primer applied a handful of seconds before the product to make it slide more easily on the skin. Personally I think it's a bit wasted for this purpose for it can look heavy and a little cakey if applied on poorly prepped skin. It works as spot-on concealer as well but once again it needs to be blended really really well otherwise it can look patchy. It's when you mix it with other products that you can see why the SSE is considered a holy grail by so many makeup lovers.

I love it mixed with my Chantecaille Just Skin tinted moisturizer. The result combines the lightness and radiant glow of a tinted moisturizer and the coverage and longevity of a gorgeous foundation.

Mixed with Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl creates an uber radiant, almost ethereal base, while if blended with a pea-sized blob of Clarins Instant smooth primer creates a smoothing foundation that lasts all day. When combined with a light reflecting concealer provides enough coverage to hide dark circles in a swipe and still looks light and natural, with a soft dewy finish.
I could go on for days about the endless uses but I'll cut it short for your sake. It's the ultimate versatile product that never lets you down and I definitely recommend it. The only downside I can think of is the ingredient list: I can see many of you will turn their noses up at that mineral oil as first ingredient and I have to say it was the thing I was most nervous about when I bought it. However it didn't break me out and my skin didn't have weird reactions to this ingredient; as far as I can tell it makes SSE feel quite heavy on the skin when applied straight form the pot but that's about it.

It's available in 16 shades and I wear SX01 which is a very good match for my skin, mostly because it’s not made only with the usual pink and yellow pigments, but there’re also some bits of grey in it to make it look just like real skin. I've heard shade estimations based on online foundation matrixes can be misleading so make sure to get color-matched on counter before buying it.

It’s not a must have for the average makeup user, but it’s definitely an interesting product for who likes to play and experiment with textures and finishes and bring makeup to the next level.

Dopo averne sentito parlare così tanto ho deciso di buttarmi ed acquistare il Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer. E' un barattolino delle meraviglie, che contiene la base a coprenza totale più pigmentata che riuscite ad immaginare e che può essere utilizzata da sola così com'è oppure combinata con primer, creme idratanti, correttori, illuminanti e chi più ne ha più ne metta per creare un aspetto fresco e senza difetti. Con questa gemma multiuso le possibilità sono davvero infinite.

L'applicazione come fondotinta semplice è un po' complessa perchè si tratta praticamente di un pigmento puro ed è molto denso, per cui bisogna armarsi di un buon pennello e tanto olio di gomito per stenderlo e sfumarlo al meglio. Stenderlo su una pelle grassa sarebbe più semplice e meno stressante perchè gli oli della pelle permetterebbero al prodotto di scivolare con facilità. Per ovviare al problema su pelli secche come la mia consiglio l'uso di un primer o di un idratante leggero pochi secondi prima dell'applicazione per garantire una stesura più omogenea.
Francamente penso che il SSE sia sprecato per questo uso, perchè se la pelle non fosse preparata a dovere il risultato potrebbe lasciare a desiderare, dando al tutto un aspetto pesante. E' quando lo si mischia con altri prodotti che s'intuisce perchè sia un prodotto così amato, sia dagli appassionati sia dai pro.

Adoro mischiarlo con la crema colorata Chantecaille Just Skin; il risultato combina la leggerezza e la luminosità di un tinted moisturizer con la longevità e la coprenza di un fantastico fondotinta. In coppia con il Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector nella tonalità Pearl crea una base radiosa e quasi eterea, mentre mescolato ad un pizzico di Primer Instant Smooth di Clarins si ottiene un fondotinta lisciante che dura tutto il giorno. Una piccolissima goccia di SSE unita ad un correttore illuminante copre le occhiaie in una sola passata pur mantenendo un aspetto fresco e naturale, con un leggero effetto bagnato.

Potrei andare avanti per ore ad elencare le possibili combinazioni, ma la farò breve. E' il prodotto multiuso per eccellenza, che non delude mai, e lo raccomando caldamente. L'unico difetto che gli ho trovato è la lista degli ingredienti: so che in molte storcerete il naso a sentire che il mineral oil è al primo post della lista ed io stessa ero un po' nervosa al pensiero di come avrebbe reagito la mia pelle. Invece non ho avuto sfoghi nè strane reazioni; per esperienza posso dire che l'unico effetto percepibile sia la pesantezza sulla pelle quando utilizzato da solo, in purezza, ma questo è quanto.

E' disponibile in 16 tonalità e io indosso la più chiara, SX01, che è un match perfetto, in parte perchè non si tratta del solito mix di pigmenti gialli e rosa, ma contiene anche un pizzico di grigio che lo rende molto più simile a pelle vera. Visto il numero di tonalità e sottotoni disponibili l'acquisto online potrebbe essere un po' rischioso, per cui vi consiglio di fare un bel po' di ricerche per trovare il vostro colore prima di comprare.

Non è un must per chi si limita ad un trucco molto basic ed è alle prime armi, però è un prodotto decisamente interessante per chi ama sperimentare con texture ed effetti e vuole portare il makeup ad un livello superiore e più professionale.

I don't usually indulge in drugstore makeup, mostly because here in Italy it tends to be quite overpriced, but from time to time curiosity gets the upper hand and I end up throwing a couple of products in my cart, for science purposes of course.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder is an oil-controlling mattifying powder that promises up to 5 hours of shine control. I'd say it lasts about 4 before it needs a touch-up but it doesn't look cakey when layered with a light hand. It does a decent job at keeping the skin matte with a velvet finish that doesn't look too powdery. It tends to cling to dry patches a bit so be sure to apply it only on the oily areas.

Generally I would have gone for the Transparent shade because I don't like to add extra color to my base but I bought it on a whim in the queque at the supermarket a long time ago and at the time I didn't noticed it came in different shades. I grabbed the first light one I laid my eyes on and I'm so glad I did since apparently Transparent in this case means pretty much white and I wouldn't want too look paler than I am, thank you very much. Shade 003 Peach Glow is not really colored but it has a soft brightening effect due to the peachy undertone and helps to conceal redness as well so it's a good shade.

You can tell is well loved 'cause I've already hit pan on this one. It's not the best powder out there but it does its job well enough for such a small price. The packaging could be a lot better to be honest. The lid comes off way too easily and the whole thing feels too flimsy to simply throw in the purse for touch ups, but I guess Rimmel had to cut the budget somewhere and I'd rather have a nice powder in a cheap packaging than the other way around.

Di norma non mi concedo molti acquisti nel reparto cosmetico del supermercato, più che altro perchè qui da noi queste marche che dovrebbero essere economiche tendono ad avere prezzi davvero eccessivi per i miei gusti. Ogni tanto però la curiosità prende il sopravvento ed uno o due prodotti finiscono nel carrello, per scopi puramente scientifici ovviamente

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder è una cipria opacizzante che promette fino a 5 ore di effetto anti lucido. Direi che dura più o meno 4 ore prima che abbia bisogno di essere ritoccata ma non ha un effetto polveroso quando viene stratificata con mano leggera. Fa un discreto lavoro nel controllare gli oli ed ha un finish vellutato ma naturale. Tende ad evidenziare pellicine ed aree secche, per cui assicuratevi di applicarla solo dove serve.

Di solito avrei scelto la tonalità 001 Transparent perchè non mi piace aggiungere colore alla base, ma è stato un acquisto d'impulso e non mi sono soffermata controllare le tonalità. Ho afferrato la prima colorazione chiara su cui mi è caduto l'occhio, e pare che sia stata molto fortunata perchè in questo caso la cipria trasparente sembrerebbe proprio bianca, e non vorrei proprio sembrare più pallida di quello che già sono, grazie tante. 003 Peach Glow non aggiunge molto colore ma grazie al tono pescato ha un leggero effetto illuminante e contrasta anche il rossore per cui è una buona tonalità per chi ha la pelle chiara.

Come vedete l'ho usata parecchio perchè ho già toccato il pan metallico. Non è la cipria migliore sul mercato ma adempie discretamente al suo compito per un prezzo abbastanza piccolo. Il packaging potrebbe essere migliorato tantissimo, visto che il coperchio si solleva molto facilmente e non è ideale da tenere in borsa per eventuali ritocchi. D'altro canto capisco che Rimmel abbia dovuto tagliare i costi da qualche parte e preferisco una buona cipria in un packaging di scarsa qualità alla situazione opposta.

L'avete provata? Avete qualche raccomandazione per quanto riguarda prodotti drugstore?

Piccola nota a margine: per quanto mi riguarda non ricomprerei mai una polvere del genere per €11.90, più che altro perchè il packaging non è all'altezza - e per dirne una KIKO allo stesso prezzo offre un simil MSF di MAC in un compact solido e con specchietto -. Però, e c'è un però, l'acquisterei senza problemi su Feelunique, dove è in vendita a €5 che è un prezzo molto più adeguato per un prodotto da supermercato.

Once upon a time I used to be all about makeup but in the last months I became a wee bit obsessed with skincare, and with a wee bit I mean completely. Face masks in particular have become an essential step in my weekly skincare routine but to be honest I have more than one on rotation and every time I have 5-10 minutes to spare I slap one on and relax a bit.

The REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Peel Mask has quickly become one of my favorites, both for the lovely marmalade smell and the amazing results in terms of radiance visible from the very first application. It's an exfoliating mask jam-packed of pure fruit acids to give a nice, gentle but effective exfoliation and get rid in a handful of minutes of dead skin cells and all the dirt that clogs pores causing blackheads and blemishes. The result of this quick peel is a brighter, more radiant complexion that looks glowy, healthy and so much smoother. It does indeed feel like new skin, cleaner and more even.
Like most dry complexions, my skin tend to look dull and opaque, so of course I try to reach for resurfacing products as often as I can. This REN mask is perfect when my skin feels a little congested or is in need of a quick radiance boost, but it's not just a quick fix product. In the long run it also reduces the appearance of post blemish scarring and even fine lines, but I can't swear on this one.

I was really impressed by this mask and other products of the brand as well; in fact I'm already contemplating another REN purchase. Get ready to see more products of the range pop out in many favorites post in the future; it might actually be my new favorite skincare brand.

Un tempo la mia attenzione era rivolta completamente al makeup ma negli ultimi mesi il mio interesse per i prodotti skincare è cresciuto a dismisura fino a diventare quasi un'ossessione. In particolare le maschere viso sono diventate un passaggio irrinunciabile della mia routine settimanale, e a dirla tutta ne ho più di una in rotazione ed appena ho 5-10 minuti liberi me ne spalmo una in faccia e mi rilasso un po'.

La REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Peel Mask è diventata rapidamente uno dei miei prodotti preferiti, sia per il meraviglioso profumo di marmellata sia per gli incredibili risultati in termini di luminosità, visibili fin dalla prima applicazione. E' una maschera esfoliante piena di purissimi acidi della frutta che esfoliano la pelle gentilmente ma con efficacia, eliminando in pochi minuti cellule morte ed impurità che ostruiscono i pori causando punti neri e brufoli. Il risultato di questo peeling veloce è un incarnato più luminoso, dall'aspetto sano e tonico. La pelle è come nuova, pulita e più uniforme.
Come la maggior parte delle pelli secche, anche la mia tende a sembrare opaca e spenta, così ovviamente cerco di utilizzare prodotti che stimolano il rinnovamento cellulare più che posso. Questa maschera REN è perfetta per quei momenti in cui la mia pelle è congestionata o necessita di un'iniezione di luminosità, ma non si limita ai risultati immediati. Nel lungo termine l'esfoliazione riduce l'aspetto delle cicatrici ed attenua le rughe sottili, anche se su quest'ultimo punto non posso mettere la mano sul fuoco.

In generale sia questa maschera sia il resto dei prodotti del marchio che ho provato mi hanno impressionata parecchio; infatti sto già progettando qualche nuovo acquisto. Preparatevi a ritrovare i prodotti della linea REN nei futuri post sui preferiti, perchè potrebbe trattarsi del mio nuovo marchio preferito per la cura della pelle.

Review: Benefit Fake up crease control hydrating concealer

Benefit Fake up crease control hydrating concealer 01 Light £18.50/€25.50

Yes, you read that right. Crease control and hydrating, all rolled together in the same sentence. Sci-fy, isn't it? I thought so too, but I had to change my mind after trying this.

Fake up is the newest addiction to Benefit's concealer family and claims to hide dark circles and diffuse fine lines while keeping skin hydrates for at least 6 hours. It's the most unique looking concealer I've ever seen, with a concealer core enclosed by a balmy serum enriched with Vitamin E and apple seed extract. It comes in 3 shades: Light, Medium and Dark.

Benefit knows a thing or two about cute packaging and Fake up's is definitely a hit. I really like the shiny silver bullet with shocking pink details; it's practical but feminine and fun at the same time.
Fake up is super easy to apply: simply swipe it under the eyes straight from the bullet and the put your ring finger at work, dabbing and blending upwards and toward the outer corner of the eye. The creamy formula and the balmy one blend seamlessly together and set to a dewy, radiant finish for a fresh and well-rested look. It has a 'No, I don't wear concealer, I was simply blessed with amazing skin and no dark circles at all, thank you very much' feel to it, something I've been looking for all my life.
If I'm wearing a demi-matte foundation I set it with a light dust of Laura Mercier Secret brightening powder to tie everything in, but otherwise I leave it alone and simply enjoy the glowy finish and the silky texture. On me it last 6 to 8 hours without need for touch-ups and I couldn't notice any creasing with or without powder. I also noticed an improvement in the texture of the skin around the eye area: it feels softer and looks better in general. So, actual skin care benefits in addition to the corrective action. It's really an impressive formula.

 

It's not a heavy-duty concealer by any means. The coverage is medium, so it's not going to cut it for very dark circles and serious discoloration. I also like to use it to conceal that little bit of redness around the nose where I have very dry skin and sometimes even some annoying flakiness no matter how much I moisturize. It's too sheer to cover blemishes tho, so for spot concealing I'll continue to reach for something more pigmented.

I'd skip it if you have oily skin because this concealer might be too rich for you. On the other hand Fake up should work wonderfully on more mature ladies and dehydrated complexions.

Si, avete letto bene. Tenuta impeccabile e correttore idratante nella stessa frase. Fantascienza, vero? Lo pensavo anche io prima di provare questo prodotto, ma mi sono dovuta ricredere.

Fake up è il nuovo arrivato nella famiglia di correttori Benefit e promette di coprire le occhiaie e ridurre l'aspetto di rughette e linee d'espressione, pur mantenendo la pelle idratata per almeno 6 ore. L'aspetto è davvero unico, con il prodotto vero e proprio al centro circondato da un balsamo arricchito con Vitamina E ed estratto di seme di mela. E' disponibile in 3 tonalità: Light, Medium e Dark.

Benefit sa il fatto suo quando si parla di packaging originale e grazioso e quello del Fake up non è da meno. Il bullet argentato e lucidissimo con decorazioni rosa shocking mi piace molto; è pratico ed iperfemminile allo stesso tempo. Sfido chiunque ad indovinare che si tratta di un correttore e non di un lussuoso rossetto.
Fake up è semplicissimo da usare: basta applicarlo sulla zona occhiaie come un rossetto e picchiettare con l'anulare, sfumando verso l'alto e verso l'angolo esterno dell'occhio. La formula cremosa ed il balsamo si mescolano con facilità e donano un aspetto fresco e riposato grazie al finish radioso. La resa è da 'No, non uso il correttore, ho semplicemente una pelle stupenda e dormo dieci ore a notte, grazie tante', un effetto che ricerco da sempre in un correttore.
Se sto indossando un fondotinta semi-opaco lo fisso con un velo di polvere Secret brightening di Laura Mercier per uniformare il tutto, altrimenti lo lascio così com'è, per apprezzarne la luminosità e la texture setosa. Su di me dura dalle 6 alle 8 ore senza necessità di riapplicare e non ho mai notato accumuli nelle pieghette, con o senza polvere.

Ho anche notato un miglioramento della grana della pelle del contorno occhi: è più morbida ed in generale ha un aspetto migliore. Quindi il balsamo ha dei reali benefici, non solo sul finish del correttore ma anche sulla pelle stessa. Sono davvero colpita.

Se cercate un correttore full coverage passate oltre. La coprenza di questo prodotto è media, per cui servirà a poco con occhiaie molto marcate e seri problemi di iperpigmentazione. Lo utilizzo con piacere per coprire i rossori attorno alle narici, dove la mia pelle è molto secca ed alle volte compaiono fastidiose pellicine, non importa quanto idratante utilizzi. Copre le cicatrici ma è troppo poco coprente per nascondere i brufoletti, per cui per imperfezioni del genere continuerò ad utilizzare prodotti dal finish meno naturale forse, ma full coverage

Lo sconsiglio a chi ha la pelle grassa, perchè potrebbe essere troppo ricco. D'altro canto Fake up dovrebbe fare meraviglie per le pelli più mature oppure per quelle disidratate come la mia.

Budget buy: L'Oreal Nude magique CC cream anti-redness

L'Oréal Nude magique CC cream anti-redness SPF12* £9.99/€13.99

L’Oreal Color Correcting creams offer the same skincare benefits of a bb cream in addition to extra tone correcting powers to even out the skin tone and counteract complexion issues. They come in 3 shades: green to neutralize redness, peach for an anti-fatigue effect and lilac to correct dull skin tones.
I tried the anti-redness* one, because even if I don't have huge skin issues such as rosacea or iper-pigmentation, I'm very pale and pinkness and fair skin tones tend to go arm in arm. The mint green cream looks quite scary at first but it blends seamlessly into the skin with a demi-matte finish and a strong yellow undertone. The coverage is very light. It reminds me of a matte version of the Estee Lauder Day wear sheer tint because it adds color without hiding much. A couple of layers are enough coverage for my chilling-at-home days and quick errands but the coverage is lighter than what I’m comfortable with. Although I do recon it works well underneath foundations as a primer because it feels nice and smooth, it doesn't have enough lasting power on its own to make the foundation last all day.

It might be because I don’t have much redness to neutralize, but I can't say this is a groundbreaking product. It covers redness just like any other yellow-based tinted moisturizer I own but with less coverage and an opaque finish.
There’s still a lot of room for improvement. For instance spf12 is too low, especially for a product that should be worn alone. The one-shade-fits-all policy is one of the things that never convinced me about bb creams and my experience with this product confirmed my suspicions: it’s too dark for my fair skin and it’s probably going to be too light for deeper skin tones but it should work well for light to medium complexions.

I wasn't sold on the whole bb cream thing before and if possible I'm even more dubious now. I was hoping this could be a drugstore dupe for the far more expensive MUFE green HD primer, but the search is still open.

Le CC creams di L'oreal offrono gli stessi benefici di una bb cream con in più un effetto correttivo  per uniformare il colorito e contrastare problemi di pigmentazione. Sono disponibili in 3 varianti: verde per neutralizzare i rossori, pesca per un effetto illuminante ed anti-stanchezza, e lilla per combattere il colorito spento.
Io ho provato l'anti-rossore* perchè, anche se non ho problemi seri come rosacea o iper-pigmentazione, sono molto pallida e di solito pallore ed arrossamenti vanno a braccetto. La crema verde menta fa un po' paura di primo acchito ma a contatto con la pelle il pigmento si trasforma e si sfuma perfettamente con l'incarnato, donando alla pelle un finish semi opaco con uno spiccato sottotono giallo.
La coprenza è molto leggera. Mi ricorda il Day wear sheer tint di Estee Lauder che dona un colorito sano più che coprire le imperfezioni. E' perfetto per quei giorni in cui resto a casa in attesa del postino o faccio due commissioni veloci, ma in generale la coprenza è troppo bassa per i miei gusti e non mi sentirei a mio agio ad uscire indossando solo questo prodotto. Funziona discretamente come primer sotto al fondotinta, perchè ha un effetto lisciante ed uniformante, ma non dura abbastanza di per sè per prolungare la durata della base.

Potrebbe dipendere dal fatto che io non abbia rossori importanti da correggere, ma non mi sembra un prodotto particolarmente degno di nota. Copre gli arrossamenti come una qualunque crema colorata con sottotono giallo che possiedo, ma con coprenza inferiore ed una finitura opaca.
C'è molto spazio per i miglioramenti, primo tra tutti il fattore di protezione solare spf12 che è un po' bassino, soprattutto per un prodotto che dovrebbe essere indossato da solo. Inoltre la questione della colorazione unica per tutti non mi ha mai convinta nel caso delle bb cream ed in questa occasione i miei sospetti sono stati confermati: è troppo scura per il mio incarnato pallido e probabilmente si dimostrerà troppo chiara per le carnagioni più scure, ma non dovrebbe creare problemi alle pelli chiare e medie.

L'intera faccenda bb cream non mi convinceva prima ed ora se possibile sono ancora più confusa. Speravo che questa cc cream potesse essere la risposta low-cost al molto più costoso primer verde HD di MUFE, ma la ricerca continua.

If you've read this blog for more than 5 minutes you'll know I love glowy skin to pieces, hence why I tend to avoid like the plague anything with the word 'matte' in the name. However Clarins Ever matte powder caught my eye right away thanks to the great reviews at first but mostly because lately I've become slightly obsessed with the brand in a 'I want to try everything' sort of way.

The powder smells heavenly - I can't tell exactly what it is but the scent is gorgeous - and it's so soft and finely milled it feels like nothing on the skin. A light dusting of it sets foundation and concealer and lasts all day keeping the shine at bay while giving a subtle glow to the skin. It's mattifying because it stops shine and oiliness but it isn't opaque or dull by any means: it looks extremely natural and fresh, and reflects the light in all the right places.

I believe it comes in 5 shades, from fair to dark, including a translucent shade which is the one I picked up. Transparent opal #00 is completely invisible on the skin but if you prefer your setting powder to add extra coverage to your foundation I'm sure you'll like Ever matte even more than I do. I played a little with the tinted powders in store and they provide a nice coverage with just a hint of yellow undertone to counteract any redness.

Another thing worth mentioning is the packaging. My, I absolutely adore Clarins packaging! The signature pale gold compact is elegant and looks expensive, but it's super lightweight and travel friendly.
No matter how hard I try I can't find any fault in this powder; even the price tag doesn't seem too bad for 10g of product.

This powder paired with Laura Mercier Silk crème foundation got me a lot of compliments on how my skin looks and questions about the foundation I'm wearing. Guess what I've been wearing non-stop everyday for the past few weeks?

Se seguite questo blog da più di 5 minuti sapete quanto io ami il finish luminoso, motivo per cui evito come la peste qualunque prodotto che contenga la parola 'matte' nel nome. Nonostante questo, però, la cipria Ever matte di Clarins ha subito attirato la mia attenzione, per le recensioni stra-positive che mi è capitato di leggere ma più che altro per la mia recentissima ossessione per il marchio.

La polvere ha un profumo fantastico - non capisco bene cosa sia ma è buonissimo - ed è finissima e così setosa da risultare leggerissima sulla pelle. Un velo leggero fissa fondotinta e correttore e dura per tutto il giorno, tenendo a bada l'effetto lucido e donando allo stesso tempo una luminosità  discreta all'incarnato.  E' opacizzante perchè trattiene gli oli ed impedisce loro di filtrare attraverso la base ma non è affatto opaca o spenta: questa cipria ha un finish naturalissimo e fresco, e riflette la luce nei punti giusti.
Credo che sia disponibile in 5 tonalità, da porcellana a medio-scura, compresa una trasparente che è quella che ho scelto. Transparent opal #00 è completamente invisibile sulla pelle ma se cercate una polvere fissante che aggiunga coprenza al vostro fondotinta sono sicura che apprezzerete Ever matte ancora più di me. Ho giocato un po' con le ciprie colorate in negozio ed hanno una buona coprenza pur mantenedo l'effetto luminoso, e giusto un tocco di giallo per contrastare il rossore.

Degno di nota anche il packaging. Io adoro il packaging Clarins! Il portacipria color oro pallido caratteristico del marchio è elegante e sembra costoso, ma è leggerissimo e per questo molto comodo da tenere in borsetta.
Per quanto ci provi non riesco a trovarle neppure un difetto, persino il prezzo per 10g di prodotto non mi sembra affatto eccessivo.

Review: LUSH Love lettuce fresh mask

When my skincare fever started and my face mask obsession took off, I set myself the target of trying all LUSH fresh face masks, some of the brand's most exciting products if you ask me. I simply love the idea of a wholesome, delicious-smelling mask waiting for me in the fridge at the end of a long day.
I already dipped my paws in the absolutely mouth-watering Oatfix in the past, and while it had been very hard not to mop it off with a spoon, I'm afraid it didn't really do anything for my skin. Bummer.
Anyways, I was planning to be patient and wait to collect 5 black pots to get the next mask for free when the lovely lady at the checkout dropped a full-size Love lettuce in my bag with a wink. Needless to say I was more excited for my freebie than for the purchased goodies. Fickle me.

Even if Love lettuce was originally created to give relief to normal to combination complexions, it worked just fine for my dry and slightly dehydrated skin. It's a mix of clay to deep clean the pores and absorb grease, honey and almond oil to moisturize the skin, crushed almonds to exfoliate and seaweed gel for a vitamin boost. And everything's topped with 100% pure French lavender to calm redness and balance the sebum production, while adding the most amazing, soothing fragrance to the mixture.
Marvellous scent aside, what I love the most of this scrub mask is the frankly alarming shade of green. It looks exactly like something I could do at home with a mixer and some leftover ingredients and needs to be paired with a soft robe, a couple of cucumber slices on the eyes and some relaxing music in the background.
Personally I don't rub the dried mix into my skin cause the almond bits are a little too big and harsh for my liking. Instead I simply remove the crust with muslin cloth and lukewarm water using a delicate touch. Love lettuce cleans the skin without stripping it too much and leaving it baby soft, while the lavender fights any redness that may be caused by the exfoliation.
It's definitely a mask I'll keep repurchasing when my skin needs a deep clean and a vitamin boost, but right now I can wait to try the next creamy goodness. Which one should I try next?

Quando la febbre da skincare mi ha colpita ed è iniziata la mia ossessione per le maschere viso, mi sono data come obiettivo quello di provare tutte le maschere fresche Lush, alcuni dei prodotti più interessanti del marchio se chiedete a me. Adoro l'idea di una maschera tutta naturale e dal profumo delizioso che mi aspetta in frigorifero al termine di una lunga giornata.
In passato avevo già provato la maschera dal profumo irresistibile, L'avena poetica, e sebbene non mangiarla a cucchiaiate sia stata una vera e propria sfida, non credo abbia fatto molto per la mia pelle. Peccato.
Comunque, avevo intenzione di aspettare e collezionare i 5 barattolini neri per prendere la prossima maschera gratis quando la ragazza al checkout ha buttato una Via della seta full size nel mio sacchetto facendomi l'occhiolino. Inutile dire quanto fossi più eccitata per l'omaggio che per i miei acquisti originari. Quanto sono volubile...

Anche se La via della seta è pensata per pelli da normali a miste non ha creato problemi alla mia pelle secca ed un po' disidratata. E' un mix di argilla per assorbire il sebo in eccesso e pulire i pori in profondità, miele ed olio di mandorle per ammorbidire la pelle, mandorle sbriciolate per esfoliare e gel di alghe per una sferzata di vitamine. Il tutto completato da purissima lavanda francese per combattere il rossore, bilanciare la produzione di oli e donare un fantastico profumo al miscuglio.
Meravigliosa profumazione a parte, quello che mi piace di più di questa maschera è l'allarmante sfumatura di verde. Sembra una di quelle maschere che si vedono nei film, che si fanno a casa con frullatore ed avanzi di frigo e da accoppiare a fette di cetriolo sugli occhi, un soffice accappatoio e musica rilassante.
Personalmente non strofino la crema sul viso perchè i granuli di mandorla sembrano un po' troppo grossi ed aggressivi per i miei gusti. Mi limito a rimuovere la crosticina con acqua tiepida ed un panno di mussola usando un tocco leggero. La via della seta pulisce in profondità senza spogliare eccessivamente la pelle dei suoi oli naturali e lasciandola morbidissima, con la lavanda che combatte al tempo stesso qualsiasi rossore causato dall'esfoliazione.
Ricomprerò questa maschera quando la mia pelle avrà bisogno di una pulizia profonda e di una iniezione di vitamine, ma per il momento non vedo l'ora di provare la prossima. Qualche raccomandazione?

Spot the difference: spot treatments run-down

Even though I'm blessed with pretty decent skin, I enjoy trying new stuff too much to really stick to one product long enough for my skin to get used to it and for this reason a few stress break-outs now and then are to be expected. Fortunately I put together a little emergency squad ready to come to the rescue whenever that happens.

Etat pur Pure activ A22 Slicylic acid 300 £12.20/€12.90 // Origins Super spot remover £13/€16 // Liz Earle Spot-on £8.50//€10.50

The Origins Super spot remover is something I've been using for a while now. I wrote a thorough review if you want to take a look at it (here) and I still reach for it as an overnight treatment to strike down those annoying zits that come to say hello as regular as clockwork every month. I like to use it at night because as the anti-bacterial formula acts, the blemish gets very red for some time and becomes trickier to cover with concealer. Also the healing concentrate is so potent in this it can be a little drying on the area and as the day goes by it can make the spot look flaky and the makeup a bit cakey.

The next product was a little disappointing for me but it's worth mentioning anyways, even though I just found out it has been temporarily discontinued due to some problems sourcing one of the ingredients. The Liz Earl Spot-on is a mixture of vitamin E and pure essential oils of tea tree, lavender and melissa with the most overwhelming eye-watering smell ever. Unfortunately it didn't do anything to improve the healing process of my blemishes and the roll-on applicator is quite sloppy, but helps a lot with pain relief and it's amazing on mosquito bites. Yay for double duty products!

Finally the most recent addition to my rescue team is the Etat pur Pure activ A22 Salicylic acid 300. This comes in the smartest packaging ever: pressing the bottom you push out of the dropper just the right amount of product you're going to need for each spot, which saves on waste and keeps everything very sanitary. Unlike its Origins equivalent it doesn't sting and can be used as preventive measure to stop a zit before it actually pokes out because the formula isn't drying at all.

Anche se sono fortunata ed ho una pelle abbastanza decente, mi piace troppo provare cose nuove e raramente uso lo stesso prodotto abbastanza perchè la mia pelle ci sia abitui e di conseguenza qualche brufoletto da stress di tanto in tanto è da mettere in conto. Per queste occasioni ho messo insieme una piccola squadra di pronto intervento per fermare il problema sul nascere.

Ormai utilizzo l'Origins Super spot remover da un bel po'. A suo tempo lo avevo recensito approfonditamente nel caso voleste darci un'occhiata (qui) e nonostante sia passato più di un anno lo uso tutt'ora per stroncare sul nascere quei deliziosi brufoletti che passano a fare un salutino puntuali come un orologio ogni mese. Mi piace usarlo di notte perchè mentre la formula anti-batterica agisce l'imperfezione si arrossa ulteriormente e coprirla con una quantità di correttore normale, che poi non sembri eccessiva man mano che il brufoletto guarisce, può diventare complicato. In più visto che la formula cicatrizzante è molto potente può seccare l'area e mentre passano le ore possono formarsi delle pellicine intorno al brufoletto ed il trucco potrebbe risentirne.

Il prossimo prodotto di cui volevo parlarvi è stato una piccola delusione, ma vale comunque la pena di nominarlo, anche se ho appena scoperto che la sua produzione è stata temporaneamente sospesa per difficoltà a reperire un ingrediente. Sia mai che ritorni disponibile. Il Liz Earl Spot-on è un mix di vitamina E ed oli essenziali di melaleuca, melissa e lavanda dalla profumazione più potente che si possa immaginare, da far lacrimare gli occhi. Sfortunatamente non fa granchè per accelerare il processo di guarigione e l'applicatore roll-on è poco preciso, ma aiuta a diminuire il dolore ed è fantastico sulle punture di zanzara. Evviva i prodotti con un uso alternativo!

Infine il membro più recente della squadra di salvataggio, l'Etat pur Pure activ A22 Salicylic acid 300 (qui). Il packaging è geniale: premendo il fondo l'erogatore a contagocce rilascia la quantità esatta di prodotto necessario per trattare ogni imperfezione, diminuendo gli sprechi e mantenendo il tutto molto igienico. Al contrario del suo equivalente Origins, non brucia e si può utilizzare tranquillamente come prevenzione anche prima che il brufoletto si sviluppi completamente perchè non secca affatto la pelle.

I got my hands on a couple more samples recently and I thought to throw in a quick review of one of my favorites foundations as well, because why not.

Dior Diorskin Nude skin-glowing makeup spf15 // Burberry Sheer luminous fluid foundation // Illamasqua Skin base // Rimmel Wake me up

001 This foundation was quite disappointing. The coverage is so light it might as well be a tinted moisturizer. 010 was a perfect match for my pale skin tone at first but after a couple of hours it looked pinker and about one shade darker. I actually liked the natural satin finish and the lasting power was decent without powder but I can't be bothered to spend 40€ for a foundation that looks like a bb cream. Recommended if you have pretty decent skin already or if you have freckles and want them to show through your foundation, otherwise skip it, unless of course you enjoy doing an awful lot of concealing. And keep in mind that it might oxidize and become darker and darker during the day.

002 After loving the Velvet foundation so much I had to try the Sheer version as well. Don't let the name fool you. This is not a sheer foundation by any means. The coverage is medium, with a nice skin-like finish and a soft glow. It has the same delicate baby powder scent of the Velvet one and feels like nothing on the skin, but somehow is very noticeable. Seems nice from far away but when you look up-close it's like the pigment clung to every little imperfection, making it look more obvious. There are definitely better foundations for the same price or less on the market, but if you're curious about Burberry foundations I recommend you check the Velvet formula. That one is really great. Try-before-buy is mandatory here.

003 I just love Illamasqua Skin base so much! I always forget how much I love it until I wear it again. The pixel perfect finish is wonderful, dewy but very natural. The coverage is medium to full depending on what you use to apply; I like to apply it with a stippling brush, like the Real Techniques one or a MAC 130 to really buff it in for a flawless skin effect. It took me a couple of disastrous attempts to figure out how much product to use. You only need the smallest bit, about a pea-sized drop, to cover your whole face. It's so pigmented it takes absolutely nothing to overdo and make it look cakey. Since there's no spf in it, it's my foundation of choice (along with NARS Sheer glow) for a night out because it photographs perfectly and doesn't flash back. It's available in 26 shades (yes, you read correctly! 26! I'm shade 6 for reference) plus a golden highlighter and Illamasqua provided a very useful shade conversion chart for easy color match.

004 Rimmel Wake me up looks so much more expensive than it is with a radiant finish and long lasting formula; price tag and availability make it perfect for anyone on the market for a medium coverage foundation with an anti fatigue effect. Don't mind the shimmer, it's barely noticeable on the skin in normal lighting.

Unfortunately the shade selection (6 shades only) is unforgiving: the lightest shade Ivory 100 settles around a MAC Nw20-22 and the pink undertone is very obvious. I managed to wear it this summer with some adjustments and a bit of fake tan but at this time it's impossible for me to use it. If you can find a shade that matches yours I totally recommend it. It's a brilliant product.

Di recente ho messo le mani su un paio di nuovi samples ed ho pensato di buttare nel mucchio anche uno dei miei fondotinta preferiti per far numero.

001 Grandissima delusione. La coprenza è così leggera che potrebbe definirsi una crema colorata. 010 si adatta perfettamente alla mia carnagione, ma dopo un paio d'ore il fondotinta sembra più rosato e più scuro di quasi una tonalità. Mi è piaciuto l'effetto satinato e la durata è discreta anche senza polvere fissante, ma mi rifiuto di spendere €40 per un fondotinta che sulla pelle sembra una bb cream. Lo raccomando a chi ha una pelle quasi perfetta ed ha solo problemi di discolorazione; oppure a chi ha le lentiggini e vuole che siano comunque visibili sotto al trucco, altrimenti niente da fare, a meno che non vi diverta correggere ogni più piccola imperfezione con il correttore. E tenete comunque a mente che potrebbe ossidare e diventare più scuro man mano che passano le ore. In questo caso assolutamente provare prima di comprare.

002 Visto che il Velvet mi è piaciuto così tanto ho deciso di provare anche la versione Sheer del fondotinta Burberry. Non lasciatevi ingannare dal nome. Non è affatto una base semi-trasparente. La coprenza, infatti, è media e modulabile, con un grazioso effetto pelle luminosa. Ha la stessa delicata profumazione di borotalco del Velvet ed è leggerissimo sulla pelle, anche se, stranamente, risulta molto evidente. Visto da lontano è perfetto, ma da vicino sembra quasi che il pigmento si raccolga attorno alle piccole imperfezioni, rendendole più ovvie. Ho visto di meglio e per un prezzo inferiore, ma se Burberry vi incuriosice vi raccomando di provare il Velvet. Quello si che è un fondotinta coi fiocchi.

003 Adoro la Skin base di Illamasqua! Mi dimentico sempre di quanto mi piace fino a che non la utilizzo di nuovo. Il finish ad alta definizione è magnifico, dall'effetto bagnato ma comunque non eccessivo. La coprenza va da media a totale, a seconda di cosa si usa per applicare il fondotinta; io di solito utilizzo uno stippling brush come quello di Real techniques oppure il 130 di MAC per sfumarlo benissimo ed ottenere un effetto pelle perfetta. Mi ci sono voluti un paio di tentativi disastrosi ma alla fine ho capito qual è la quantità ideale di prodotto da utilizzare. Ne serve pochissimo, più o meno una goccia grande quanto un pisello per tutto il viso. E' così pigmentato che è davvero facilissimo applicarne troppo ed ottenere un pessimo risultato. Visto che non contiene spf è il fondotinta che scelgo (insieme allo Sheer glow di NARS) per le mie serate fuori o per quando so che verrò fotografata, perchè viene benissimo in foto e non riflette il flash. E' disponibile in 26 colorazioni (si, avete letto bene: 26! Io indosso la 6 per la cronaca) più un'illuminante dorato ed Illamasqua ha creato un'utilissima tabella di conversione per semplificare al massimo la scelta della tonalità corretta.

004 Il Wake me up di Rimmel sembra molto più costoso di quanto non sia, con il suo finish radioso ed una formula a lunga tenuta; prezzo e reperibilità lo rendono perfetto per chiunque sia alla ricerca di una base con coprenza media e con un effetto illuminante ed anti fatica. Non fatevi spaventare dall'iridescenza, con una normale illuminazione i micro-glitter non si notano sul viso.

Sfortunatamente il range di tonalità (solo 6) non perdona: la tonalità più chiara Ivory 100 corrisponde ad un MAC Nw20-22 ed il sottotono rosa è molto evidente. Sono riuscita ad indossarlo quest'estate con qualche aggiustamento ed un po' di auto-abbronzante ma ora come ora per me è inutilizzabile. Ammesso che riusciate a trovare un colore che vi si addica, lo stra consiglio. E' fantastico sul serio.

Review: The Body shop Honey & Oat 3-in-1 scrub mask

Also known as 'the impulse buy that for once turned out to be a hit'.

The Body shop Honey & Oat 3-in-1 scrub mask £10/€14

This mask reminds me of LUSH Oatfix, but with a softer, creamier texture. The smell is absolutely divine, like oatmeal and marzipan, quite strong but not overwhelming.

It spreads nicely and I only use about half a teaspoon of product for my whole face, meaning I should be able to get 30+ uses out of this 100ml tube. Definitely a great value for money.

The moist oat flakes are quite delicate but knowing how badly my skin reacts to dry scrubbing, I prefer applying to slightly damp skin. Then I gently rub in focusing on the sides of my face where I tend to get some flakiness during the colder months, and leave in for up to 15 minutes to get the most out of the moisturizing properties of this mask. It doesn't set completely so it's easy to remove with just a splash of warm water or a damp muslin cloth. It cleans the skin and leaves it baby soft and bright, without tightness or greasy residues.

The Body shop recommends it for normal to dry complexions and I couldn't agree more: while is very gentle and nourishing on my faintly dehydrated skin, it would probably be too moisturizing for oilier complexions.

Overall I really like it. It's a nice weekly treat that both cleans and moisturizes the skin, smells delicious and keeps all its promises. Huge thumbs up!

Ovvero l'acquisto d'impulso che si rivelò una scoperta.

Questa maschera mi ricorda L'avena poetica di LUSH, ma con una texture più morbida e cremosa. Il profumo è assolutamente divino, un mix di prorridge e marzapane, deciso ma non opprimente.

Si stende con facilità e ne uso un cucchiaino da tè scarso per tutto il viso, quindi in questo barattolino da 100ml dovrebbero esserci una trentina di applicazioni o più. Davvero un affare.

I fiocchi d'avena leggermente umidi sono abbastanza delicati, ma sapendo come la mia pelle reagisca agli scrub a secco, preferisco applicare la crema sul viso appena inumidito. Massaggio la maschera concentrandomi sui contorni del viso, dove col freddo mi si formano delle aree di desquamazione, e poi lascio agire la maschera per 15 minuti per sfruttare al massimo le sue proprietà idratanti. La crema non s'indurisce, quindi viene via facilmente con un po' d'acqua tiepida od un panno di mussola inumidito. Pulisce la pelle e la lascia morbida come quella di un bambino e più luminosa, senza sensazione di unto o di pelle che tira.

The Body shop la raccomanda per pelli da normali a secche e non potrei essere più d'accordo: è molto delicata e nutriente per la mia pelle un poco disidratata, ma potrebbe essere fin troppo idratante per pelli più grasse.

Mi piace, è un'ottima coccola settimanale che pulisce ed idrata la pelle allo stesso tempo, ha un profumo delizioso ed in generale mantiene tutte le promesse. Approvata!
