Gift ideas: TBS Ginger sparkle shower, scrub & moisture collection

I said it and I did it. I bought myself an early Christmas present. Woo hoo.
Guess what, patience is not my middle name. I had to get my fill of gingerbread men as soon as the Holiday collection hit the online store and along with the full size body butter, I picked what in my opinion is the pièce de résistance of the Ginger Sparkle collection.

The Ginger Sparkle shower, scrub & moisture set includes a full size 250ml shower gel, a 75ml body polish, a 50ml body butter and a cute little 40g soap bar, all safely packed in a gorgeous tin box shaped like a gingerbread man cookie. To be completely honest I picked this kit instead of the individual products mainly for the reusable tin box that I plan to fill with all kind of Christmas candies and goodies and put on display on my kitchen table. I'm a sucker for cute packagings, le sigh.

The gingerbread scent is to die for, warm and refreshing at the same time, with spicy notes and a candied feeling in the background that reminds me of the happy cola gummy candies. It's the most unisex scent between the Christmas ones and a real boost of festive mood, even if it'll work well across the seasons.
The soap free shower gel is very gentle on the skin and lathers well, especially when used with a loofah; leaves a light gingerbread scent on the skin that lasts for some time without being too intrusive.
The body polish is perfect for quick everyday exfoliation: the crushed walnut shells gently scrub the skin while the gel foams a little, leaving the skin baby soft and smooth. The smell was very strong in the shower but I couldn't sense it on my skin afterwards.
The body butter is creamier and less thick than the Vineyard peach one I previously reviewed; the lighter formula will work well on all skin types, melting on the skin and keeping it deeply hydrated for 24h without greasiness. The butter has the most lingering scent, it's like walking in a candied ginger cloud all day; I love putting my lounge-around-the-house-clothes on in the morning and get a whiff of the gingerbread scent.
Finally, the soap is a nice extra treat, perfect to keep near the sink to instantly refresh the zingy ginger scent on your hands or even have a quick hand scrub thanks to the ground walnut shells.

Detto, fatto. Mi sono fatta una autoregalo di Natale con largo anticipo. Woo hoo.
Chi l'avrebbe mai detto, pazienza non è il mio secondo nome. Ho dovuto fare il pieno di omini di pan di zenzero nel momento stesso in cui la collezione natalizia è comparsa nello store online e, insieme al burro corpo full size, mi sono regalata il pezzo forte della linea Zenzero brioso.

Il Regalo medium Zenzero brioso contiene gel doccia full size da 250ml, doccia esfoliante da 75ml, mini burro corpo da 50ml ed una piccola saponetta da 40g, il tutto racchiuso in una fantastica scatola di latta riutiulizzabile a forma di biscottone di pan di zenzero. Se non si fosse capito, la scatola è la ragione principale della scelta del set invece dei prodotti singoli: già me la vedo piena di caramelle e delizie natalizie in bella mostra sul tavolo della cucina. Non so resistere ad una bella confezione, le sigh.

La profumazione è una meraviglia, calda e briosa allo stesso tempo, con note speziate ed un sentore caramellato sull sfondo, che mi ricorda le caramelle gommose a forma di coca cola. E' la fragranza più unisex tra quelle proposte per le festività ed una vera e propria iniezione di atmosfera natalizia, anche se è adatta a tutte le stagioni.
Il gel doccia privo di sapone è delicato sulla pelle e fa molta schiuma, soprattutto se utilizzato con una luffa; si lascia alle spalle un delicato velo profumato allo zenzero che dura per qualche ora senza essere troppo opprimente.
L'esfoliante doccia è perfetto per un veloce scrub quotidiano: i gusci di noce tritati esfoliano delicatamente mentre la schiuma leggera lascia la pelle liscia e vellutata. Il profumo è abbastanza forte nella doccia ma non lascia residui sulla pelle asciutta.
Il burro è più cremoso e meno denso di quello aromatizzato alla Pesca della vignache ho recensito in precedenza; la formula più leggera è perfetta per tutti i tipi di pelle, si assorbe subito ed idrata per 24 ore. Il burro corpo è il prodotto dalla profumazione più persistente: è un po' come essere avvolti da una nuvola di zenzero caramellato che dura tutto il giorno; adoro indossare i vestiti da casa al mattino e sentirne ancora il profumo.
Infine la saponetta è un extra piacevole, perfetto da tenere vicino al lavandino per rinfrescare la profumazione o persino per un veloce scrub alle mani, visto che contiene anch'essa gusci di noce tritati.

Kit come questo sono il modo migliore per avvicinarsi al range TBS senza stressare il portafoglio e la scatola di latta è davvero irresistibile; ma se cercate dei regalini un po' più economici, magari per dei pensierini o per riempire la calza della Befana o, perchè no, un calendario dell'Avvento fatto in casa, date un'occhiata al sito, perchè c'è qualcosa per tutte le tasche, dai Butter up duo da appendere all'albero, alla golosa spugna a forma di tortina oppure il grazioso specchietto di feltro Very merry.

Review: The Body shop Honey & Oat 3-in-1 scrub mask

Also known as 'the impulse buy that for once turned out to be a hit'.

The Body shop Honey & Oat 3-in-1 scrub mask £10/€14

This mask reminds me of LUSH Oatfix, but with a softer, creamier texture. The smell is absolutely divine, like oatmeal and marzipan, quite strong but not overwhelming.

It spreads nicely and I only use about half a teaspoon of product for my whole face, meaning I should be able to get 30+ uses out of this 100ml tube. Definitely a great value for money.

The moist oat flakes are quite delicate but knowing how badly my skin reacts to dry scrubbing, I prefer applying to slightly damp skin. Then I gently rub in focusing on the sides of my face where I tend to get some flakiness during the colder months, and leave in for up to 15 minutes to get the most out of the moisturizing properties of this mask. It doesn't set completely so it's easy to remove with just a splash of warm water or a damp muslin cloth. It cleans the skin and leaves it baby soft and bright, without tightness or greasy residues.

The Body shop recommends it for normal to dry complexions and I couldn't agree more: while is very gentle and nourishing on my faintly dehydrated skin, it would probably be too moisturizing for oilier complexions.

Overall I really like it. It's a nice weekly treat that both cleans and moisturizes the skin, smells delicious and keeps all its promises. Huge thumbs up!

Ovvero l'acquisto d'impulso che si rivelò una scoperta.

Questa maschera mi ricorda L'avena poetica di LUSH, ma con una texture più morbida e cremosa. Il profumo è assolutamente divino, un mix di prorridge e marzapane, deciso ma non opprimente.

Si stende con facilità e ne uso un cucchiaino da tè scarso per tutto il viso, quindi in questo barattolino da 100ml dovrebbero esserci una trentina di applicazioni o più. Davvero un affare.

I fiocchi d'avena leggermente umidi sono abbastanza delicati, ma sapendo come la mia pelle reagisca agli scrub a secco, preferisco applicare la crema sul viso appena inumidito. Massaggio la maschera concentrandomi sui contorni del viso, dove col freddo mi si formano delle aree di desquamazione, e poi lascio agire la maschera per 15 minuti per sfruttare al massimo le sue proprietà idratanti. La crema non s'indurisce, quindi viene via facilmente con un po' d'acqua tiepida od un panno di mussola inumidito. Pulisce la pelle e la lascia morbida come quella di un bambino e più luminosa, senza sensazione di unto o di pelle che tira.

The Body shop la raccomanda per pelli da normali a secche e non potrei essere più d'accordo: è molto delicata e nutriente per la mia pelle un poco disidratata, ma potrebbe essere fin troppo idratante per pelli più grasse.

Mi piace, è un'ottima coccola settimanale che pulisce ed idrata la pelle allo stesso tempo, ha un profumo delizioso ed in generale mantiene tutte le promesse. Approvata!

Hello. My name is Beatrice and I'm a foundation addict.

I probably own more than a normal person needs yet every time a new foundation hits the market I get really excited and want to try it right away.

While swatching the products  and give them quick test directly at the counter can be useful, I find the best way to see if a foundation really works for me is to try it at home, in natural light, with my usual skin prepping products and my own brushes. Not many brands understand that and sometimes the counters aren't even equipped with sample jars; that's why I took the habit to carry 3-4 samples jars in my bag all the time. Obviously not every foundation I try makes it to my to-buy list or even to an in-depth review on the blog, but I wanted to share my thoughts on some of them anyways.

Bourjois Healthy mix serum // Laura Mercier Silk crème // Lacome Teint idole ultra 24h // Laura Mercier Oil-free supreme // YSL Le teint Touche eclat

001 Since the regular Healthy mix is my favorite drugstore foundation for everyday wear, I was quite curious to try the Serum version which is supposed to work even better than the regular one on dry skins. About a month ago or so I did a little sample swap with Alessandra, the lovely blogger behind Dotted around, and she kindly included a jar of #51 Vanilla in the bunch. It provides a fairly buildable light-to-medium coverage and has a nice demi-matte, skin-like finish. I always get compliments about my complexion when I wear Bourjois foundations thanks to the radiant boosting, anti-fatigue effect. The shade range is a little poor and could use an improvement. I absolutely love the fruity scent and the idea of a treatment wrapped into a foundation that makes your skin better while you're wearing it.

002 I love it because it's the most natural looking full coverage foundation I've tried in a long time. It's quite buildable so depending on the amount of product and the brush you use to apply you can go from sheer to full coverage with no effort. And it doubles as concealer as well which makes it perfect for rushed days. I like to apply with the Real Techniques stippling brush or MAC 130 because my skin is looking pretty good at this time and I don't need heavy coverage. The finish is luminous and radiant and the oil free formula is quite long wearing without feeling heavy on the skin. I had a sample of Cream ivory which is a little too dark for me in winter but the lightest shade Soft ivory should do the trick. Went straight into my to-buy list.

003 The first time I tried this foundation it reminded me of my beloved Chanel Pro Lumiere, because of the glowy, lit-from-within finish. Teint idole is not so dewy and luminous, but is just as easy to blend and sets to a nice satin finish, which is a little unusual for foundations that claim such a long lasting power. I don't know about the 24h thing but it made it through 10 hours in the middle of August without batting an eye. I won't lie, I was quite impressed. It's a very good foundation, especially for the hotter months, but it seriously reeks like roses which is a huge downside for me. I'm absolutely gutted to give it the thumbs-down but if you're on the market for a luminous long lasting foundation and the heavy scent doesn't bother you, it's definitely worth a try.

004 It's like the oily skin version of the Silk crème foundation: it's harder to sheer out because it drags a little on my normal-to-dry skin but I bet it would glide better on oilier complexions. Lasts all day without looking cakey or greasy. It has a 'lit from within' finish that looks very natural despite the full coverage, but it's not as glowy as the Silk crème one. You may want to check this out if you have oily skin and some imperfections to hide, or if you just enjoy full coverage and you're on the market for a silicone-free formula.

005 I was probably too worked up by all the ecstatic reviews and was expecting too much, but I stared at the mirror expectantly, waiting for the wow effect to come and nothing happened. This foundation feels light and fresh and gives a nice flawless finish with a soft focus effect, but I had the feeling I was using a lot more product than usual and at the end of the day it didn't look so different from other foundations. In short, good but not enough to write home about; besides I have this big issue with YSL makeup, which involves mostly the mascaras and now this foundation: the scent is so strong and persistent I can literally smell it on my face all day long, which is flipping annoying. I wear shade B10, the lightest of the beige range, which is a good match, but if I'd ever give it another go I'd probably try BD10, the lightest between the golden shades, 'cause B10 it's still a little too pink for my liking.

Excuse the lack of pictures but it felt kinda pointless to photograph the sample jars...

Quasi sicuramente ne possiedo più del necessario eppure ogni volta che un nuovo fondo compare sul mercato mi esalto e non vedo l'ora di provarlo.

Anche se swatches e test veloci al counter sono comunque utili, credo che il miglior modo per scoprire se un prodotto faccia davvero per me è quello di provarlo a casa, con la luce naturale, usando il mio primer ed i miei pennelli. Sfortunatamente non molti brand capiscono questa necessità e molti counter non sono nemmeno attrezzati per i campioncini; per questo ho preso l'abitudine di portarmi dei barattolini nella borsa per essere pronta ad ogni evenienza e vi consiglio di fare altrettanto. Ovviamente non tutti i prodotti che provo risultano in un acquisto oppure in una recensione completa, ma ho pensato comunque di condividere delle impressioni veloci.

001 Visto che l'Healthy mix è il mio fondotinta di fascia bassa preferito per tutti i giorni, ero molto curiosa di provare la versione Serum, che è studiata specificamente per le pelli secche. Circa un mese fa io e Alessandra, la blogger dietro a Dotted around, abbiamo fatto una piccolo swap di campioncini e tra le altre cose mi ha inviato un barattolino di Vanilla #51. Offre una coprenza da leggera a media discretamente modulabile ed ha un bel finish semi-opaco, ad effetto pelle. Ricevo sempre molti complimenti quando indosso i prodotti Bourjois, grazie alle caratteristiche defatiganti ed illuminanti. Purtroppo le tonalità disponibili sono poche ed il range andrebbe decisamente migliorato. Adoro la profumazione fruttata e l'idea di un siero mischiato al fondotinta, che tratta le pelle mentre lo si indossa.

002 Mi piace perchè è il fondotinta ad alta coprenza con il finish più naturale che abbia provato in tantissimo tempo. E' molto modulabile ed a seconda della quantità di prodotto e dello strumento utilizzati si può applicare piò o meno sheer fino ad una coprenza quasi totale senza problemi. Ed è anche un ottimo correttore, il che può tornare utile per quei giorni in cui si è un po' di fretta. Preferisco applicarlo con lo stippling brush di real techniques o con il 130 di MAC, perchè al momento la mia pelle è in buone condizioni e mi basta un velo di prodotto. Il finish è radioso e luminoso e la formula oil free dura a lungo senza appesantire. Avevo un sample di Cream ivory che è un po' troppo scuro per me al momento, ma la tonalità più chiara, Soft Ivory, dovrebbe essere perfetta per il mio colorito invernale.

003 La prima volta che ho provato questo fondotinta mi ha ricordato alla lontana il mitico Pro Lumiere di Chanel, per la luminosità che sembra provenire dall'interno. Il Teint idole non è altrettanto radioso e non ha quell'effetto quasi bagnato, ma si sfuma altrettanto facilmente ed ha un aspetto satinato che un po' inusuale per un fondotinta a lunga tenuta. Non mi pronuncio per le 24 ore, ma ha resistito per 10 ore in pieno agosto senza fare una piega. Non lo nascondo, mi ha davvero impressionata. E' un ottimo fondotinta, specialmente per i mesi più caldi, ma ha una fortissima profumazione di rose che per me è un un serio punto a sfavore. Con sommo dispiacere lo devo bocciare per questo, ma se siete alla ricerca di una base a lunga durata e luminosa e la profumazione non v'infastidisce vale la pena provarlo.

004 Questo sembra la versione per pelli grasse del fondo Silk crème: è più difficile modularne la coprenza perchè scorre un po' a fatica sulla mia pelle normale/secca ma scommetto che l'applicazione sarebbe più semplice su pelli miste e più grasse. Dura tutto il giorno senza quel fastidioso effetto di prodotto in eccesso o lucidità. Dona una luminosità leggera e molto naturale nonostante la coprenza totale, ma non è illuminante come il Silk crème. Dategli un'occhiata se avete la pelle grassa e volete coprire cicatrici ed imperfezioni, o se semplicemente apprezzate i fondi molto coprenti e siete alla ricerca di una formula senza silicone.

005 Forse mi sono fatta trascinare dalle recensioni estatiche e mi aspettavo troppo, ma durante il test sono rimasta davanti allo specchio per cinque minuti buoni in attesa dell'effetto wow, che però non è mai arrivato. Questo fondotinta è fresco e leggero e perfeziona la pelle grazie alle particelle riflettenti, ma mentre lo applicavo avevo la sensazione di star utilizzando molto più prodotto del solito ed alla fin fine il risultato non era così diverso da quello di altri fondi illuminanti. In breve è buono, ma non ho sentito la necessità di correre a comprarlo; tra l'altro ho un problema con il makeup di YSL che è iniziato con i mascara ed ora ho riscontrato anche con il Touche eclat: la profumazione è così forte e persistente che posso sentirmela sul viso tutto il giorno. Fastidiosissimo! B10, la tonalità più chiara dei sottotoni neutri è un buon match per la mia carnagione, ma nel caso dovessi dargli una seconda possibilità, credo proprio che proverò BD10, il più chiaro dei sottotoni dorati, perchè c'è una punta di rosa di troppo in B10.

001 Burt's bees is a brand I became somewhat obsessed with over the past weeks. I didn't have the chance to go shopping for it yet, but I've been browsing the internet looking for good value sets, which are always a great way to approach a new brand, especially when you don't know what to try first. This set contains foot cream, hand cream, honey lip balm and the milk & honey body lotion I already had my eyes on. A head to toes set to give a nice try to Burt's bees' line and would also make a lovely gift for a natural skin care fiend.

002 I've never been a candle person but over the last year or so I really enjoyed them: they can make the house warmer and more personal in matter of minutes. Obviously there're many cheaper options on the market, but Diptyque candles are more of a threat because of the price tag and something I'd like to receive as a gift; after all we don't often indulge in expensive buys for ourselves. They're quite popular in the UK and after smelling them the other day at the mall I can understand why: gorgeous scents, elegant packaging and different sizes for all budgets. A candle could be a nice gift for a fragrance lover and among other things definitely less risky than buying a random perfume.

003 China Glaze knows how to do glitter polishes and there's nothing better than sparkle galore and Christmas tree shades for the Holiday season. Nail polish sets are usually very good value for money and this China Glaze set looks very festive, so it'll make the perfect Christmas gift. Or, even better, you could split the nail polishes and use them as stocking fillers: you'll be making your beauty-loving friends happy while keeping secret Santa's budget low at the same time. It's a win/win solution.

004 Usually the Body shop Christmas range is by far one of the best Holiday releases and this years' collection doesn't disappoint. Along with Vanilla bliss and Cranberry joy, TBS will release in these days the Ginger sparkle body range, with cute little Gingerbread men on the packaging and extra zingy ginger scent. The moment I saw the press release I added the whole range to my to-buy list. Can't resist to cute Gingerbread men!

Un mese e mezzo a Natale e mi sto praticamente arrampicando sui muri dall'eccitazione! Avete già iniziato a pensare ai regali per i vostri cari? Visto che odio i regali raffazzonati e lo shopping dell'ultimo minuto, ho già iniziato a sfogliare i cataloghi natalizi e la sezione regali dei miei siti preferiti per trovare il regalo perfetto per ognuno. E non è vietato cercare cose anche per me già che ci sono, giusto? Meglio fornire più opzioni a Babbo Natale, disse lei con espressione seria.

001 Negli ultimi tempi sono veramente ossessionata da Burt's bees e i loro prodotti. Non ho ancora avuto l'occasione di comprare niente, ma ho cercato su internet alcuni set, che a mio parere sono il modo migliore per accostarsi ad una nuovo marchio, soprattutto se non si sa da dove cominciare. Questo kit contiene una crema per i piedi, una per le mani, un balsamo labbra al miele e la lozione corpo al latte & miele che avevo già adocchiato in precedenza. Un set per la cura dalla testa ai piedi per testare il marchio per bene ed un regalo senz'altro molto gradito da un'appassionata di prodotti ecobio.

002 Non sono mai stata un'amante delle candele ma nell'ultimo hanno sono diventate una vera e propria passione: in pochi minuti rendono la casa più calda ed aggiungono un tocco davvero personale all'ambiente. Ovviamente esistono opzioni più economiche - Sephora propone un set da 3 per esempio -, ma le candele Diptyque sono quasi una coccola, visto il prezzo di listino, e mi piacerebbe riceverne una per Natale; dopotutto non ci concediamo molto spesso delle frivolezze così costose. Sono piuttosto popolari in Inghilterra e dopo averle annusate alLa Rinascente ho capito il perchè: profumazioni favolose, packaging elegante e diverse taglie per tutte le tasche. Una candela potrebbe essere un'opzione interessante per un'amante delle fragranze fiorite/fruttate, e non così rischiosa come l'acquisto di una bottiglia di profumo a caso.

003 China Glaze sa come si fanno gli smalti glitter e non c'è niente di meglio di un'esplosione di brillantini nei colori intonati all'albero di Natale per le feste. I set di smalti di solito sono molto convenienti e questo di China Glaze in particolare è molto festoso e sarebbe quindi il regalo perfetto per una fanatica di smalti. Oppure, ancora meglio, potreste dividere il set e distribuire gli smalti come piccoli pensierini alle amiche: più regali in un colpo solo, con un occhio al portafoglio. La soluzione perfetta!

004 Di solito la collezione di Natale di The Body shop è una delle migliori uscite natalizie in assoluto e quella di quest'anno non delude. Insieme a Vanilla bliss e Cranberry joy, TBS proporrà nei prossimi giorni la linea Ginger sparkle, con graziosi omini di pan di zenzero sulle confezioni e una briosa profumazione al ginger. Appena ho visto la cartella stampa ho aggiunto l'intera linea allo zenzero alla mia lista delle cose da comprare. Non resisto a quegli omini coi bottoni gommosi! La linea natalizia sarà disponibile dal 16 Novembre online e nei negozi, non vedo l'ora!

Review: Liz Earle Cleanse & polish Lavender and rose

The classic Liz Earle Hot cloth Cleanse & polish has been a favorite of mine for almost a year now and a staple of my evening routine: I like to alternate it to my Clarisonic to remove my makeup and I reach for it every time my skin is a little stressed out by the all new products I'm testing and needs a little back to basics.

For this limited edition the already fabulous best-selling formula, made only of natural active ingredients, was enriched by rose petal and lavender essentials oils, to soothe the skin and help relaxing after a long day. In case you're not familiar with this product, one pump of the buttery texture dissolves all the makeup, the grime and the dirt that pile on the skin on daily basis, then the muslin cloth, soaked in warm water, removes the cleanser while gently lifting the dead skin cells to reveal a soft, radiant skin, ready for the next steps of your night routine.

Being a huge lavender fan, I love the deep calming scent and much prefer it to the standard herbal one. Honestly I'd love a permanent rose & lavender C&P, maybe with matching night cream and toner; the Liz Earle instant boost toner is one of my favorites - and also one of the few toners that don't dry me out - but I find the regular scent a little too refreshing to follow a relaxing facial.

Even if the special edition graphic design is gorgeous, I'm not particularly keen on the packaging: it's pretty and does its job, but you can't really tell how much product is left in the bottle until it's over; thankfully the regular C&P comes in a tube size as well.

This special edition is slightly bigger than the usual one - 150ml against the standard 100ml -, which justifies the higher price; also 2£ for each sale will be donated to the Prince's Trust, a youth charity that mentors young people either into further education or business opportunities, helping them build a solid future for themselves.

Keep in mind that it comes with two muslin clothes - at least mine did - so there's no need to buy the extra ones.

I'll be buying a couple of back-ups with my next order for sure, 'cause unfortunately once the Rose & Lavender C&P is gone, is gone for good. All good things always come to an end, after all.

Il classico Hot cloth Cleanse & polish di Liz Earle è uno dei miei prodotti preferiti da quasi un anno ormai, ed uno dei punti fissi della mia routine serale: lo alterno al Clarisonic per rimuovere il trucco e lo utilizzo ogni volta che la mia pelle sembra stressata dai prodotti che sto testando ed ha bisogno di qualcosa di sano e genuino per riprendersi.

Per questa edizione limitata la già favolosa formula, composta di soli ingredienti attivi naturali, è stata arricchita da oli essenziali di petalo di rosa e lavanda, per lenire la pelle e cancellare la fatica di una lunga giornata. Nel caso non conosciate il prodotto, si tratta di una trattamento in due fasi: il detergente in crema dissolve il trucco e lo sporco che si accumula sulla pelle a causa dell'inquinamento, dopodichè il panno di mussola imbevuto di acqua calda rimuove il tutto e svolge una delicata azione esfoliante rimuovendo le cellule morte, per preparare la pelle alla crema idratante ed al resto della vostra routine serale.

Da amante della lavanda, non potevo non apprezzare la profumazione calmante dell'edizione limitata, che anzi preferisco a quella all'eucalipto ed erbe della versione regolare. In tutta onestà continuo a sperare che la versione rosa e lavanda entri a far parte della linea permanente, magari affiancata da crema notte e tonico abbinati; l'Instant boost toner sempre di Liz Earle è uno dei miei tonici preferiti - ed uno dei pochi che non mi secca la pelle - ma trovo che la profumazione rinfrescante non si abbini per niente a quella calmante della lavanda.

Anche se trovo la grafica dell'edizione speciale molto graziosa, non sono una fan del packaging: è bello e fa il suo lavoro, ma è difficile capire quanto prodotto è rimasto; fortunatamente il C&P standard è disponibile anche nel packaging a tubo, che è molto più comodo.

Questa edizione speciale è più grande del normale - 150ml contro i 100ml del regolare -, il che giustifica il prezzo più alto; in più 2£ per ogni prodotto venduto sono destinate alla fondazione inglese Prince's Trust, che si occupa di sostenere i ragazzi nell'educazione e nella creazione di imprese, per aiutarli a porre le basi per un futuro solido e promettente.

Tenete a mente che arriva con due panni di mussola in dotazione - per lo meno il mio ne aveva 2 -, per cui non serve comprare quelli extra. Con il mio prossimo ordine su  LizEarle.com ne comprerò senz'altro un altro paio da tenere di scorta, perchè una volta che sarà terminato non verrà più riassortito. Le cose migliori sono sempre in edizione limitata, uffa.

Peach-tastic: The Body shop Vineyard peach range

I've been a fan of The Body Shop since when I was a kid and I always look forward the end of the year because of the amazing Holiday launches of the brand. This year tho, things got exciting a little early with the Vineyard peach collection launch early last month.

At first I was a little surprised by the choice of a fruit I associate with summer for a fall collection, but the fresh yet warm fragrance of succulent late peaches goes surprisingly along with the autumn vibe.

The Body Shop Vineyard peach body butter* £13/€15 and shower gel* £4/€6

What I like the most about TBS products is the realistic scent: they don't have that synthetic and sometimes sickening smell that some food scented products have, but they smell almost like the real thing. The Vineyard peach range is no exception and smells like the sweetest ripe peaches, the ones that almost melt in your mouth at first bite and have a honey aftertaste.
The limited edition range includes shower gel, body butter, body scrub and body lotion. I had the chance to try the first two so far.

The shower gel lathers well and leaves a delicate peach scent on the skin without being drying or irritating. I find some shower gels a little too harsh as they leave my skin itchy for a while but I never had this issue with TBS products.

During the colder months I can't be lazy and I try hard to keep up with my post shower moisturizing routine and body butters from TBS are my absolute favorite thing to use. They're thick yet light on the skin and sink in quickly leaving the skin extra soft without greasiness. This one in particular was formulated for dry skins and thanks to coconut oil and karitè butter leaves the skin deeply hydrated for 24 hours straight. And the peach fragrance is quite persistent as well: I just love waking up in the morning still smelling like peaches and honey. The scent is so addicting I've been using it as a hand cream as well lately and I'm this close to spread some bread with it - clearly they had to put a 'don't eat' sign on the packaging for silly girls like me -.

The Vineyard peach collection is limited edition and you better rush, 'cause I can tell this stuff is gonna fly off the shelves. I already added a back up of the body butter and the body scrub with crushed peach stones to my to-buy list but if I could only pick one product from the range it'd be the butter for sure. It's truly ah.may.zing.

Sono un'affezionata cliente di the Body shop fin da quando ero piccola e aspetto sempre la fine dell'anno con trepidazione, per scoprire le collezioni natalizie, che sono le mie preferite in assoluto. Quest'anno però la situazione si è fatta interessante un po' prima del solito, con il lancio, il mese scorso, della linea Pesca della vigna. All'inizio sono stata presa un po' in contropiede dalla scelta di un frutto come la pesca, che io associo all'estate, per una collezione autunnale, ma a sorpresa il profumo delle pesche tardive s'intona perfettamente con l'atmosfera autunnale.

Ciò che più mi piace dei prodotti TBS è la profumazione realistica: non hanno quel profumo sintetico ed un po' stucchevole che alcuni cosmetici che profumano di cibo hanno, ma si avvicinano il più possibile all'aroma reale. La linea Pesca della vigna non fa eccezione e profuma esattamente come quelle pesche mature e dolcissime, quelle che quasi ti si sciolgono in bocca al primo morso ed hanno un retrogusto di miele.

La gamma include doccia gel, burro corpo, esfoliante corpo e lozione corpo, per le pelli meno secche. Per ora ho potuto provare i primi due.

Il gel doccia genera una buona quantità di schiuma e lascia un leggero aroma di pesca sulla pelle, senza seccare od irritare. Mi è capitato che alcuni doccia schiuma fossero troppo aggressivi e mi causassero un fastidioso prurito, ma non ho mai avuto questo genere di problemi con i prodotti TBS.

Durante i mesi più freddi non posso essere pigra e m'impegno a stare al passo con la mia routine di idratazione post-doccia, e i burri corpo di TBS sono i miei preferiti in assoluto da utilizzare. Sono molto densi ma comunque leggeri sulla pelle e si assorbono molto rapidamente, ammorbidendo senza ungere. Questo in particolare è stato pensato per le pelli secche e grazie a olio di cocco e burro di karitè garantisce un'idratazione profonda per 24 ore di fila. Anche la profumazione è molto persistente: adoro svegliarmi al mattino ancora circondata dal profumo di pesche e miele. La fragranza mi piace così tanto che ho iniziato ad usare il burro anche come crema mani per cercare di prolungarne la durata, e sono a tanto così dal spalmarlo sul pane - evidentemente hanno sentito il bisogno di mettere l'avvertimento 'non si mangia' sulla confezione per gente come me -.

La collezione Pesca della vigna è un'edizione limitata e vi conviene affrettarvi, perchè so già che sparirà dagli scaffali in pochissimo tempo. Ho già aggiunto un back-up del burro corpo e lo scrub con noccioli di pesca tritati alla mia lista delle cose da comprare, ma se dovessi scegliere un solo prodotto della linea sarebbe senz'altro il burro. E' fa.vo.lo.so.

Notd: China Glaze Fast track

China Glaze fast track £6.75/€6.50 2 coats

Fast track is a creamy toffee beige packed with gold glitter and some green and copper holographic flecks that my camera couldn’t pick out. In the bottle it looks like a mushroom-y taupe but dries slightly warmer, like pale caramel. It’s absolutely gorgeous and a nice take on the usual nude nails but with an interesting twist. The coverage is surprisingly good for a neutral and it’s completely opaque in just two coats. Application was a little tricky only because the brush tends to pick up too much product but the issue can be easily fixed with lighter and more careful strokes. Like all China glaze varnishes, Fast track has a firm but flexible rounded brush and it’s 3-free.

This nail polish is part of the Capitol Colors collection, which is inspired by the Hunger games trilogy – go read the books if you haven’t already! – and was released around March; each shade represents one of the 12 Districts of the dystopian world described in the books and Fast track is supposedly inspired by District 6 Transportation. I’m so glad I was still able to find it after all these months, because it was one of the two shades that really caught my eyes back then. Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to put my hands on the extra pretty Luxe & Lush flaky top coat as well. Fingers crossed.

Fast track è una base cremosa color caramella mou piena di glitter dorati ed alcuni brillantini olografici verdi e rame, che però la macchina fotografica non è riuscita a cogliere. Nella bottiglia sembra un color talpa che tende vagamente al color fungo, mentre durante l’asciugatura si scalda e vira lievemente al caramello chiaro. E’ assolutamente favoloso ed una buona opzione per chi ama l’effetto nudo ma con quel qualcosa in più. La coprenza è sorprendentemente buona per uno smalto neutro e sono necessarie solo 2 mani per la completa opacità.  L’applicazione richiede un po’ di attenzione perché il pennellino preleva troppo prodotto, ma basta stendere lo smalto con cura e mano leggera. Come tutti gli smalti China glaze, Fast track ha un applicatore solido ma flessibile e leggermente arrotondato ed è 3-free.

Questo smalto è parte della collezione Capitol colors, che si ispira alla trilogia di The Hunger games – correte a leggervi i libri se non l’avete ancora fatto! – ed uscita lo scorso marzo; ogni tonalità rappresenta uno dei 12 Distretti del mondo distopico decritto nei libri e Fast track è lo smalto del Distretto 6, quello dei trasporti. Sono contentissima di aver trovato questo smalto, nonostante sia passato tanto tempo dall’uscita della collezione, perché è uno dei due colori che ha fin da subito attirato la mia attenzione. Con un po’ di fortuna dovrei riuscire a mettere le mani anche sul top coat a scaglie Luxe & Lush. Incrociamo le dita.

Review: Burberry Velvet foundation

About two weeks ago I was hanging around the mall waiting for an event to start and I took the chance to check some of the new arrivals and swatch a couple of foundations I had my eyes on. I stopped at the Burberry counter out of habit and I was pleasantly surprised to see the new fall collection on display: while the lip and eye shades we recently saw on the catwalks were definitely interesting, the one thing that really caught my eyes was the Velvet foundation, a brand new addition to the beauty range for Fall.

Burberry Velvet foundation trench n°201 £35/€43

At first I thought the name Velvet was just another way to say matte. Instead the finish of this foundation is something I've never seen before: it's silky soft to the touch, and looks like velvet on the skin, like a foundation and a setting powder all together. It's hard to nail a description here, but instead of looking matte and flat, this base looks soft and healthy, like the skin of a peach.

Since the formula is quite thick, I find the best way to apply this foundation is with a dense buffing brush to really work the pigment into the skin and pack the product only in those areas were you need a little more coverage, or with a sponge to achieve maximum coverage.

I didn't have the chance to wear it for more than 8-9 hours, but it lasted very well on me, with just a little bit of shine breaking through on the tip of the nose at the end of the day. A primer didn't make any difference in the longevity of the product and there's no need for a setting powder, even if oilier skins might need to set it.

It hydrates the skin without the typical dewy finish of moisturizing foundations, and provides medium coverage with an oil-free and long-lasting formula, which is still lightweight and very comfortable to wear. It contains wild rose extract to hydrate and shields the skin from natural elements. The faint baby powder scent is quite pleasant and this comes from a person that usually hates scented foundations.

Extra brownie points for the matte packaging with signature check on the lid that feels very elegant without being too heavy and the pump that has a lock position.

The shade match with my skin tone is so perfect I want to cry: the lady at the counter said that I have a 'very Burberry skin tone' and it's true. If you're pale and struggling to find the right foundation match maybe Burberry is the answer you were waiting for: the lightest shade, Trench 201, is perfect for me - I'm N10 for the record -, and the shade range includes other 7 shades to cover pale to medium-dark skin tones.

It's a high-end foundation and in this case you get exactly what you pay for. Even if you don't feel like splurging, the unusual finish makes it definitely worth a try at a counter.

Circa un paio di settimane fa gironzolavo alLa Rinascente in attesa che iniziasse un evento e ne ho approfittato per dare un'occhiata alle nuove uscite e swatchare un paio di fondotinta che mi ero ripromessa di provare. Per forza d'abitudine mi sono fermata al counter Burberry e sono stata piacevolmente sorpresa dalla nuova collezione autunnale in bella mostra sul bancone: sebbene i nuovi ombretti e rossetti, freschi freschi di passerella, fossero indubbiamente interessanti, il prodotto che mi ha colpito di più è stato il fondotinta Velvet, la new entry della linea beauty per l'autunno.

All'inizio pensavo che il nome Velvet fosse solo un altro modo per dire matte. In realtà il finish di questo fondotinta è un qualcosa di mai visto prima per me: morbido al tatto e simile al velluto sulla pelle, come un fondotinta con polvere fissante inclusa. E' dura da spiegare, ma invece di essere opaca e piatta, questa base ha un aspetto morbido e sano, come la pelle di una pesca.

Visto che la consistenza è abbastanza densa, trovo che lo strumento migliore per applicarlo sia un buffing brush, un pennello compatto che permetta di lavorare e stendere per bene uno strato sottile di prodotto, ed eventualmente insistere solo nelle aree che necessitano di una maggiore coprenza, oppure una spugnetta per ottenere la coprenza massima.

Non ho avuto la possibilità di indossarlo per più di 8-9 ore ma la durata è veramente ottima, con solo un pochino di lucidità sulla punta del naso a fine giornata. Non ho riscontrato differenze di longevità con o senza primer e non serve fissarlo con una polvere, anche se pelli più grasse della mia potrebbero sentirne la necessità.

Idrata la pelle senza quel finish luminoso tipico dei fondotinta più idratanti e la formula oil-free e a lunga tenuta, che è comunque leggera e molto confortevole, offre una coprenza media. Contiene estratti di rosa selvatica per idratare e protegge dagli elementi atmosferici esterni. La leggera profumazione di borotalco è piuttosto piacevole, e ve lo dice una che raramente sopporta i fondotinta profumati.

Punti extra per il packaging opaco con il famoso motivo check che è elegante e non pesa troppo, e per l'erogatore che ha un sistema di bloccaggio.

Il match con la  mia carnagione è così perfetto che quasi mi commuovo: la responsabile del counter mi faceva notare che ho una 'pelle molto Burberry' ed ha ragione. Se siete pallide e fate fatica a trovare il colore giusto, forse Burberry è la risposta ai vostri problemi: la tonalità più chiara, Trench 201, è perfetta per me - che sono più o meno un N10 per la cronaca -, ma ci sono altre 7 tonalità per carnagioni da pallide a medio-scure.

E' un fondotinta di un marchio costoso, ma in questo caso pagate per una performance coi fiocchi. E anche se non ve la sentite di spendere così tanto, il finish così particolare merita senz'altro una prova al counter.

001 This illuminating powder comes in the most stunning compact: it looks so heavy and expensive with the detailing on the lid so beautiful and delicate I could look at it all day. Unfortunately, while I was looking for reviews about this palette, I found out that the gold pattern on the powder is just a spray on that goes away at the first touch of a brush. What a shame.

002 I have a serious soft spot for NARS blushes: I believe for as many dupes you can find you'll never get close to the amazing velvety texture and crazy pigmentation of these powders. After lusting for months over Sin, I discovered this lovely golden apricot blush and now I want it! It reminds me of MAC Tenderling, one of my favorite blushes for this season, but Luster seems a lot more multidimensional. It's one of those blushes that go with everything and give that 'I'm not trying too hard, I just woke with amazing skin' appearence.

003 Just look at it. How pretty this Burberry palette is? It screams 'Fall!' and 'Expensive!' and 'Please, buy me!'. If you've never tried Burberry eyeshadows I strongly recommend you check them out. They have this velvety, creamy texture that feels so luxurious, and even if the shade selection may look plain and boring at first sight, there are some real jems in the permanent collection, like Pale Barley and Rosewood.

004 I'm aware that buying a product only because of its packaging it's madness, and I won't buy it, pinky promise. I'm just going to sit here and stare at the gorgeous rose gold compact with a cute little ribbon on top. Staring is free. Who knows, maybe Santa will hear my awed sighs. Just imagine pulling this compact out of your bag for a touch up and feeling like Grace Kelly for a moment. Le sigh.

005 Ok, this oil it's been out for a while now and yes, I'm a little late on this one, but isn't that the prettiest oil you've ever seen? Also so many people keep raving about it after all this time, has to be really good, right?

Manca poco al Natale - whoohoo! - ed è arrivato il momento di cominciare a lasciare indizi qua e là per parenti e amici su quello che si vorrebbe trovare sotto l'albero. Massì, lanciamo discrezione ed allusioni fuori dalla finestra ed andiamo subito al sodo.

001 Il compact che contiene questa polvere illuminante è davvero stupendo: sembra pesante e costoso, con dettagli così belli e delicati, che potrei fissare per tutto il giorno. Sfortunatamente, mentre cercavo delle recensioni, ho scoperto che il disegno filigranato della polvere non è altro che uno spray dorato che sparisce alla prima passata del pennello. Un vero peccato.

002 Ammetto di avere un debole per i blush NARS: sono convinta che per quanti dupes si possano trovare, non ci si avvicinerà nemmeno lontanamente alla texture vellutata ed alla pigmentazione di queste polveri. Dopo mesi passati a desiderare Sin, ho scoperto questo delizioso blush albicocca dorato e lo devo avere! Mi ricorda Tenderling di MAC, uno dei miei blush preferiti per questa stagione, ma Luster sembra un colore più interessante e multi dimensionale. E' uno di quei fard che vanno con tutto e conferiscono quel look da 'Non mi sto impegnando troppo, mi sono solo svegliata con una pelle fantastica 'stamattina'.

003 Guardatela. Ma quant'è bella questa palette Burberry? Grida 'Autunno!' e 'Costosa!' e 'Comprami!'. Se non avete mai provato gli ombretti Burberry vi consiglio di dar loro un'occhiata. Hanno questa fantastica consistenza vellutata e cremosa, così lussuosa, ed anche se la gamma dei colori può sembrare noiosa ad un primo sguardo, vi assicuro che nella collezione permanente ci sono delle vere e proprie gemme, come Pale Barley e Rosewood.

004 So che acquistare qualcosa per la confezione è follia allo stato puro e non lo farò, promesso - anche perchè temo che i prezzi in euro della Making pretty saranno folli -. Me ne starò qui, buona buona, a fissare con occhi sognanti il portacipria color oro rosa con fiocchetto. Sognare è gratis. Chi lo sa, forse Babbo Natale sentirà i miei sospiri. Già m'immagino a tirare fuori questo bellissimo portacipria dalla borsetta per un ritocco, sentendomi Grace Kelly. Le sigh.

005 So che quest'olio per capelli è uscito un bel po' di tempo fa e che arrivo un attimino in ritardo, ma non è l'olio più bello che abbiate mai visto? E poi dopo tutto questo tempo ne sento ancora parlare così bene, deve per forza essere straordinario, no?

Sono così eccitata per la stagione delle Feste!
