The Haul: A Little Bit Of MAC

I'm basically physically incapable of resisting a trip to MAC. I mean, no. I can't pass it up. 

So whenever someone asks if I'm up for a quickie to the closest store, I try to play it cool while I mentally fist-pump and get ready to pull out my wallet. Because one does not simply walk into MAC without buying anything. That would be plain rude. The day this haul happened I walked in with a couple of purchases in mind and, as it always happens, I marched out with four other things in my shopping bag. Bless.

I'm on the market for a liquid concealer to include in my pro kit and a couple of fellow makeup artists have recommended the MAC Mineralize Concealer (£16.50). This concealer in nice and light on the skin, with buildable coverage and a radiant finish that looks luminous and natural without actually highlighting imperfections. The formula is quite moisturizing and slightly filling, which means it works well on dry skins and mature ones as well. Also it looks like the shade range may run slightly lighter than usual, which is good for very fair complexions as sometimes NC15 is still a bit too dark. I'm still testing it out but so far I really like it.

Weirdly enough I didn't ended up buying any powder eyeshadow this time but I made up for it by picking up 3 of the newest MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pots (£15). These are permanent so there was no hurry, however once I swatched them I couldn't simply leave them alone. I was already a fan of the basic ones but I really like this improved version and the color range is oh so pretty. I picked up Camel Coat, which I'd describe as a trench coat kind of shade rather than camel; anyways, it's a nice creamy beige, perfect to give definition to fair complexions, to neutralize any pigmentation on the lid or just as a base, for subtle smokey looks. Stormy Pink is a creamy mauve with a bit of a mushroom undertone, if that even makes sense. It's a very sophisticated shade and I can see it work wonderfully on its own or paired with plums and purples. At last, I grabbed Perky on a whim. I don't usually wear corals on my eyelids but there's something about this shade I can't quite put my finger on. It's just really pretty, I guess, especially if you like an effortless, bonne mine look like I do now and then. I dare to say it could even work as a blush but don't quote me on that.

I spoke about the MAC RiRi Hearts Powder Blush in Bad Girl Gone Good (£20) in my latest wishlist post and as you can tell I caved in and bought it. I'm so glad I did of course, it's just as pretty as I expected and then some. The packaging is the tackiest thing but the blush itself is worth a little cringing: it's a lovely coppery peach that gives the most amazing lit-from-within glow to my pale skin. It's limited edition and is selling out fast, even if not as fast as the rest of the collection, so there's still chance for you to find it somewhere.

Lastly, I back-2-MACed - don't you just love getting free lipsticks? I most certainly do - 6 empties for a lipstick I've had in my wishlist for the longest time. MAC Plumful (£15) is a medium pink with plum undertones, which gives that I-just-ate-a-handful-of-berries kind of look. Although the finish is sheer, it gives plenty of colour to the lips; the wear time is decent given the moisturizing formula and it fades evenly throughout the day. Plumful is a safe way to approach the berry lips trend without going too overboard but it's also a very pretty shade for any occasion and I think it would suit many skin tones.

In pratica sono fisicamente incapace di dire no ad una visita a MAC. No, sul serio. Non ci riesco.

Quindi ogni volta che qualcuno suggerisce di fare una capatina nello store più vicino cerco di mantenere il contegno mentre internamente esulto e mi preparo a tirare fuori il portafoglio. Perchè non si può andare da MAC e non comprare niente. Sarebbe francamente scortese. Quando ho fatto questi acquisti avevo in mente giusto un paio di cose da comprare - incluse le spugnette di lattice che non ho fotografato perchè, diciamocelo, chissene frega delle spugnette di lattice - ma come sempre succede sono uscita dal negozio con altre 4 cose nella busta. E che ci volete fare.

Sono alla ricerca di un correttore liquido per il kit ed un paio di colleghe makeup artist mi hanno consigliato il MAC Mineralize Concealer (€21.17). La texture di questo correttore è super leggera, con coprenza discreta e facile da intensificare, soprattutto grazie al finish luminoso che dona un aspetto molto naturale. La formula è idratante e leggermente riempitiva, ed è quindi perfetta sia per le pelli secche sia per quelle mature. Tra l'altro mi sembra che il range di tonalità sia più chiaro di quello standard dei correttori MAC, gran cosa per chi di solito deve mischiare due colori o per chi è più chiaro del NC15. Lo sto ancora testando ma per il momento mi piace parecchio.

Strano ma vero, questa volta non ho comprato ombretti in polvere ma mi sono rifatta acquistando 3 dei nuovi MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pots (€19.66). Sono permanenti, per cui non c'era fretta, ma dopo averli swatchati non ho saputo resistere. Ero già una fan dei Paint Pot normali ma mi piace questa nuova versione ed era ora che la gamma di colori fosse aggiornata. Ho preso Camel Coat, che più che un cappotto di cammello mi ricorda un trench; è un beige chiaro, perfetto per dare definizione alle pelli chiare, per coprire eventuali discromie della palpebra e da usare come base per look tono su tono. Stormy Pink è un malva cremoso con un sottotono grigio talpa. E' un colore davvero sofisticato, perfetto per questa stagione e lo vedo bene da solo ed accompagnato ad ombretti viola e prugna. Infine, un po' d'impulso, ho preso anche Perky. Di solito non indosso coralli sulla palpebra ma c'è un certo non so che in questo colore che me l'ha fatto amare subito. E' il colore perfetto per chi come me ama i look bonne mine, freschi e naturali. Oserei dire che si potrebbe usare anche come blush ma non ci metto la mano sul fuoco.

Ho già parlato del MAC RiRi Hearts Powder Blush in Bad Girl Gone Good (€25.21) nel mio ultimo post wishlist e naturalmente sono corsa a comprarlo prima che sparisse dagli scaffali. E' persino più bello di quanto mi aspettassi, nonostante in cialda dica ben poco. Il packaging è tremendo ma il prodotto vale un po' di ribrezzo: è un pesca ramato che dona alle guance una lumonosità incredibile, di quelle che sembrano venire da dentro. E' un'edizione limitata per cui se volete dargli un'occhiata vi conviene affrettarvi.

Infine ho fatto back-2-MAC - non è magnifico portarsi a casa un rossetto gratis? -, scambiando 6 vuoti per un rossetto che è stato in wishlist per tantissimo tempo. MAC Plumful (€18.65) è un rosa medio con sottotoni prugna, il colore delle labbra dopo aver mangiato una manciata di more. Anche se il finish è semi-trasparente, il colore è intenso; la durata non è eccelsa - e d'altronde da una formula così lucida ed idratante non ci si aspetta molto in questo senso -, ma svanisce in modo uniforme. Plumful potrebbe essere il colore giusto per avvicinarsi al trend delle labbra color bacca senza esporsi troppo, ma è anche una tonalità deliziosa per tutti i giorni ed adatta a diversi incarnati.

Wee french pharmacy haul

When dad said he was going to tour South France for the holidays, I immediately thought of an endless list of french pharmacy products that I wanted him to buy for me. But knowing how much he'd rather chow his arm off than spend more than 3 minutes in a beauty store and also remembering that pharmacies in the countryside are not as well-stocked as the ones in Paris, I decided to keep it simple and stick to two of my favorite products hoping for a huge bargain. Dad obediently took some pictures with his phone to be sure to buy the right stuff and was good to go.

Unless you live in a cave, by now you must have heard of the Bioderma Crèaline H2O solution micellaire - we're talking about a great, water based and unscented makeup remover suited for sensitive skin and eyes, that easily removes any trace of makeup and waterproof mascara -, an old favorite of many MUAs around the world and more recently the cause of a huge sensation in the blogger community. It's still quite difficult to find in smaller stores but even if I'm lucky enough to be sorrounded by pharmacies that stock the basic Bioderma line, the price tag is always a little hard to swallow. This big guy here retails for €16.90 for 500ml in Italy while it goes for about half the price in France. Now I'm settled till next year at least.

While Caudalie is easier than Bioderma to find, I thought it was probably going to be cheaper in France, so I listed another staple of my skin care routine, the Beauty Elixir, too. It's basically water jam packed with vitamins and natural oils, that both nourishes the skin and gives an energy boost thanks to the strong herbal scent - the scent is not for everyone so be sure to try it before purchasing it -. Not a huge bargain, unfortunately - 8.90€ instead of 11€ - but still quite convenient.

Apparently my dad was enjoying the beauty shopping because he decided to throw in the cart an extra lemon-scented Marseille soap bar, that I'll probably keep in a drawer or the linen closet.

Quando ho sentito che papà avrebbe visitato il sud della Francia per le vacanze ho subito pensato ad una lunghissima lista di prodotti da farmacia francese che volevo provare. Però sapendo quanto mio padre si senta a disagio a stare per più di 3 minuti nel reparto makeup del supermercato e ricordandomi che le farmacie di campagna non sono fornite come quelle parigine, ho deciso di ridimensionare la lista e puntare su due dei miei prodotti preferiti e sperare in un buon affare. Dopo le fotografie di rito con il cellulare - probabilmente per sventolarlo sotto al naso della commessa francese ed essere sicuro di non sbagliare -, è partito in missione.

Se non vivete in una grotta, a questo punto avrete già sentito parlare della soluzione micellare di Bioderma - si tratta di un fantastico struccante, a base d'acqua e privo di profumo e adatto a pelli ed occhi sensibili, capace di rimuovere con facilità anche il mascara waterproof -, un vecchio amico dei truccatori di tutto il mondo, nonchè recente sensazione nella comunità blogger. E' abbastanza difficile da trovare nelle para-farmacie più piccole - qui l'elenco dei punti vendita -, ma fortunatamente qui intorno parecchi negozi vendono la linea base di Bioderma. Comunque il prezzo è difficile da mandar giù: costa 16.90€ per 500ml; in Francia invece costa la metà - chissà perchè questa disparità, poi-. Adesso sono sistemata fino all'anno prossimo.

Mentre Caudalie è decisamente più facile da trovare di Bioderma da noi - c'è persino l'e-shop - ho pensato che i prodotti sarebbero stati comunque un po' più economici in Francia, così ho messo in lista un altro dei prodotti fissi della mia routine, l'Acqua di bellezza. In pratica si tratta di un concentrato di vitamine ed oli naturali infusi in acqua, che nutrono ed hanno un effetto rinfrescante ed energizzante, soprattutto grazie al forte profumo erboso - che non è da tutti, quindi date un'annusata prima di comprare -. La convenienza non è straordinaria come per Bioderma, ma comunque meglio di niente - €8.90 invece di 10.90 per la bottiglia da 30ml -.

A quanto pare papà ci ha preso gusto, visto che ha aggiunto al carrello anche del sapone di Marsiglia profumato al limone, che credo terrò in un cassetto come profuma biancheria perchè è straordinario ma un po' forte da usare sul corpo.

Cath Kidston style cases

I'm a huge Cath Kidston fan. It's one of those brands that can potentially ruin my bank statement for good, so I try to behave and limit my visits to some harmless browsing and fanta-shopping.
But I've been lusting over their accessory selection for a long, long time and when I finally started to feel ashamed of my phone holder - a.k.a. a pink ankle sock -, it felt like the right time for a little splurge. And since I was looking for a phone case, why not to look for a matching iPad holder too? I'm a sucker for coordinates...

I needed something girly and cute but also good quality and well padded to protect my precious babies. Unfortunately my search on the e-shop was a little disappointing - only iPhone hard cases, boo - but I didn't gave up. And eBay didn’t let me down. 
I found exactly what I was looking for. I purchased both the cases from this seller, a lovely and talented girl based in the UK. The customer service was impeccable and the quality of her hand-made products jaw-dropping. I mean, look at the stitching and details! Ah.may.zing.
You can pick your favorite fabric, have the cases customized for your needs and have them sent to you in a couple of days. Just, wow.

Me being nosy as usual.. Do you protect your phone/iPad or you're one of those bold girls that throw them recklessly in the purse along with keys and coins?

Nutro una vera e propria adorazione per lo stile Cath Kidston. Se non maneggiata con cura questa adorazione potrebbe fare seri danni al mio conto in banca, quindi cerco di limitarmi al fanta-shopping ed ai piccoli sfizi quando il marchio è in saldo su Asos.
Però era da un po' che adocchiavo la linea di accessori e quando finalmente ho iniziato a vergognarmi della mia vecchia custodia del cellulare - alias il calzino rosa -, ho sentito che era giunto il momento di fare un acquisto serio. E visto che c'ero, perchè non cercare anche una custodia per l'iPad? Non so resistere ai coordinati...

Avevo in mente qualcosa di femminile e grazioso, ma comunque di buona qualità e bene imbottito per proteggere i miei tesssori. Sfortunatamente la ricerca nell'e-shop è stata infruttuosa - solo cover rigide per iPhone, buh! - ma non mi sono data per vinta ed eBay come al solito non mi ha delusa.
Ho trovato precisamente quello che stavo cercando. Ho acquistato entrambe le custodie da questo venditore, una ragazza deliziosa con base nel Regno Unito. Il servizio è stato impeccabile e la qualità dei prodotti fatti a mano toglie il fiato. Insomma, guardate le cuciture e i dettagli. Fa.vo.lo.si.
Si può scegliere la stoffa in stile Cath Kidston, richiedere modifiche per adattare la custodia al telefono/e-reader e vedersi spedire il proprio oggetto in un paio di giorni. Super efficiente.

Liz Earle makeup haul & swatches

I was thinking of placing an order on Liz Earle's website when I found out that she was finally releasing a full line of makeup essentials - including mascaras and liners, lip and cheek products, a new shade for her best selling tinted moisturizer and 3 brushes -. The range is true to Liz's philosophy: effortless, natural, easy to wear. The kind of no-makeup makeup that makes people say 'oh, your skin looks amazing today'.

I only got the products a handful of days ago and obviously I’m not ready for a review yet, but I thought that maybe a couple of swatches could be useful, especially for those of you who are going to shop online without seeing the actual products first - like I did -.
I recommend checking the application videos: you’ll get a sense of the texture and pigmentation, and also take a look to some of the colors in real life and on different skin tones; they’re very informative and well made, so definitely give them a go.


Anyways, here are the swatches of what I purchased - for reference I'm an NC10, fair but not quite porcelain -:

Bronzer (lightly swatched); Cream blushes Rose 04 and Camelia 01; powder blush Nectar 06

I swatched the Natural glow bronzer very lightly, just to show how it can be modulated to suit different skin tones, while both the Healthy glow cream and powder blushes are heavily swatched and unblended, so don't be scared if they look too bright.

Lip gloss Guava 02 and Cherry 01

The Sheer lip glosses are indeed quite sheer: Cherry for example looks very bright and red in the vial, but it's a very wearable fuchsia as you can see.

Light reflecting concealer Fair 01; Perfect fix concealer Fair 02;

I haven't had the chance to play with the Light reflecting concealer and the Perfect fix yet, but for what I can tell from the swatches both the textures look very good, but I fear they're going to be a little too dark for my skin tone. I'll let you know how they blend.

Era da un po’ che stavo pensando di ordinare un’altra volta dal sito di Liz Earle, quando ho scoperto che nei primi giorni di Maggio sarebbe finalmente uscita la tanto agoniata collezione di makeup – che include mascara ed eyeliner, prodotti per labbra e guance, una nuova tonalità per la famosissima crema colorata e 3 pennelli -. La linea resta fedele alla filosofia di Liz: facile, naturale e semplice da applicare. Il genere di trucco vedo-non-vedo che scatena commenti del tipo ‘oggi hai una pelle fantastica’.

Ho ricevuto i prodotti un paio di giorni fa, per cui non sono ancora pronta a recensirli, ma ho pensato che gli swatches potessero essere utili, soprattutto a chi ha intenzione di acquistare dal sito senza vedere fisicamente i prodotti – come ho fatto io -.
Vi consiglio caldamente di dare un’occhiata ai video sull’applicazione, che trovate nella pagina dei singoli prodotti: potrete farvi un’idea della pigmentazione e della texture, e anche vedere i prodotti applicati su diversi incarnati e tipi di pelle; sono ben fatti ed istruttivi, quindi li raccomando assolutamente.

Comunque, questi sono gli swatches dei prodotti che ho acquistato – ricordo che sono un NC10, pallida ma non bianchissima -:

Ho swatchato il Natural glow bronzer in modo lieve, per mostrarvi come il colore possa essere modulato per adattarsi a tutti gli incarnati, mentre i blush Healthy glow in crema e polvere non sono sfumati, per cui non fatevi spaventare dai colori decisi.

I Sheer lip glosses sono per l’appunto trasparenti: per esempio Cherry si presenta come un rosso brillante nel packaging, ma in realtà è un fuchsia molto facile da portare.

Non ho ancora avuto occasione di sperimentare con il Light reflecting concealer ed il correttore Perfect fix, ma a giudicare dagli swatches la texture sembra ottima; però ho il dubbio che possano essere troppo scuri per la mia carnagione. Vi saprò dire poi se si sfumano bene.

Laura Mercier mini haul & new counter

Last Thursday I was wandering in and out of the shops downtown looking for some good sales and as usual I visited the most luxurious mall in Milan, La Rinascente, just to take a look to the MAC counter and then droll a little on Louis Vuitton and co. I took one last look to Shu Uemura and right when I was ready to leave I saw this wonder.

Yes. Now there’s a real, serious Laura Mercier counter. We had a small one already, in a remote pharmacy with low stocks and little choice, but now we have the real thing. I almost shrieked in excitement and the MUA must have thought I was a little mental, ‘cause I was practically bouncing the whole time I talked to her. She was kind enough to let me take a picture and then, since I was the only client at the moment, she took some time describing the new releases. Such a refreshing chat: it’s so hard to find sale assistants that actually know what they’re talking about – most MAC counters excepted. I left with a couple of products I’ve had my eyes on for the longest time and some foundation samples that I can’t wait to try.

I bought the Secret finish mattifying cream for my kit, a cream product that you put above foundation to set everything and prevent oiliness and patchiness; a Metallic cream eye color in Gold, that like a MAC paint can be used on it’s own or as a crease-free base to make eyeshadows pop; a Lip glacè in Bellini (first of the 5 glosses I allow myself to buy this year) which is the most gorgeous pinky coral gloss for spring. Reviews coming soon.

I’m already planning my next visit, so I’m open to any recommendation on the brand.

Lo scorso giovedì girovagavo in Duomo per negozi in cerca di qualche saldo decente, e come da copione, sono entrata alLa Rinascente a rifarmi gli occhi, dare un’occhiata al MAC counter e sbavare un pochino su Louis Vuitton e co. Dopo un’ultima occhiata a Shu Uemura, quando ormai ero pronta ad andare, mi è caduto l’occhio su questa meraviglia.

Eh già. Ora abbiamo un vero counter di Laura Mercier degno di questo nome. Ad essere onesti ce n’era già uno a Conciliazione M1, presso la Farmacia Legnani, ma avevano pochi pezzi e poca scelta, ma adesso, da un mese e mezzo circa, ne abbiamo uno come si deve. Ho quasi lanciato un urlo di felicità e la makeup artist deve aver pensato che fossi un po’ fuori, visto che ho praticamente saltellato per tutto il tempo. Visto che ero l’unica cliente al momento è stata così gentile da lasciarmi fare una foto e poi mi ha illustrato con cura tutte le novità. E’ stata una conversazione così stimolante: è così raro trovare qualcuno che sappia realmente di cosa sta parlando e non cerca solo di venderti il più possibile – quasi tutti i MAC artist sono esclusi ovviamente. Me ne sono andata con un paio di prodotti su cui avevo messo gli occhi da tempo e qualche generoso sample di fondotinta che non vedo l’ora di provare.

Ho comprato la Secret finish mattifying cream per il mio kit, un gel di rifinitura da applicare sopra al fondotinta per aumentarne la durata, mantenere il tutto opaco ed impedire agli oli di salire in superficie; un Metallic cream eye color in Gold, che, come i paint di MAC, può essere utilizzato da solo come ombretto in crema, ma anche come base per far risaltare gli ombretti e garantirne la lunga durata; e un Lip glacè nel colore Bellini (il primo dei 5 gloss che potrò acquistare quest’anno) che è il più delizioso gloss corallo con base rosata che si sia mai visto. Da quel che ne so, sono già aperti o è prevista l’apertura di altri due corner a Roma e Palermo sempre presso La Rinascente.

Sto già pianificando la prossima visita quindi si accettano suggerimenti e raccomandazioni.

NARS haul

I’m perfectly aware that, when December comes, normal people stop buying things for themselves - mostly because they’re going to get Christmas gifts and getting the same thing that you bought for yourself 3 days before is not cool at all -, but really, how was I suppose to resist to free shipping and a free mini Orgasm illuminator? Also, I really needed a new bottle of Sheer Glow foundation since mine is on his last leg – funny how my shopping hunts always start full of good intentions and constantly end with my cart stuffed with things I don’t need in that precise moment but I might one day.
Obviously I got caught a little bit in the ‘advantageous shopping’ thing like it happens every.single.time, but, trust me, going crazy on NARS is unexpectedly easy. Please don’t judge me.

The initial plan included buying foundation, the limited edition Kabuki brush set (unfortunately it sold out before I could buy it) and maybe an eyeshadow. This is what I really bought (clockwise):

- Sheer Glow foundation in Deauville + pump: the pump costs 5€ - ouch! –, but I really need to scrape every precious drop of foundation from the bottle;
- Eyeshadow duo Earth Angel: this is a very popular duo and apparently the green shadow alone is worth the purchase;
- Ondine eyeshadow: plum with gold shimmer, perfect for effortless smoky eyes;
- Mini Orgasm illuminator: yay for freebies!
- Cyprus eyeshadow: I haven’t swatched it yet but in the pan looks like MAC Patina, my favorite MAC eyeshadow;
- Douceurs de Paris eyeshadow palette: the prettiest natural/evening shades combination, I can see myself getting a lot of uses from it, especially on the go.

And the Make up your mind eye set, featuring limited edition eyeshadow palette, medium sized Smudge proof eyeshadow base, Larger than life volumizing mascara and medium sized eye makeup remover. These sets are always great value for money and perfect to try different products.

There. I regret nothing.

Sono consapevole di come le persone normali, quando si avvicinano dicembre e le feste, smettano di fare acquisti per sé stessi – principalmente perché non è carino ricevere in regalo qualcosa che si è acquistato per sé 3 giorni prima -, ma sul serio, come avrei potuto resistere a spese di spedizione gratuite e mini Orgasm highlighter? Tra l’altro avevo bisogno di una nuova bottiglia di Sheer Glow visto che la mia è agli sgoccioli – buffo come ogni volta che parto con dei buoni propositi mi ritrovi con il carrello pieno di prodotti che non mi servono sul momento, ma un giorno chissà.
Ovviamente mi sono fatta prendere la mano dalla convenienza dell’offerta come succede ogni.singola.volta., ma, davvero, esagerare con NARS è insapettatamente semplice.
Il piano iniziale prevedeva l’acquisto di un fondotinta, il set di pennelli Kabuki limited edition (che sfortunatamente è andato esaurito prima che potessi acquistarlo) e forse un ombretto. Questo invece l’acquisto finale (in senso orario):

- Fondotinta Sheer Glow in Deauville + pump: l’erogatore costa 5€ - ouch! – ma voglio utilizzare fino all’ultima goccia di prodotto, per cui mi serviva;
- Ombretto duo in Earth Angel: molto popolare e apparentemente il verde vale da solo la spesa. Vedremo;
- Ombretto Ondine: prugna con shimmer dorato, perfetto per uno smoky eye facilissimo;
- Mini illuminante Orgasm: evviva gli omaggi!
- Ombretto Cyprus: non l’ho ancora provato, ma assomiglia a Patina, il mio ombretto preferito di MAC;
