It doesn’t happen that often to hear so many mixed opinions about one product but apparently this time Chanel managed to split the beauty community in more than a half. Since this product was released I read hundreds of reviews, each one so different from the others that it feels like they’re not talking about the same foundation at all. This is the main reason why I decided to try it in person, getting over my skepticism and my firm decision not to try any other foundation, considering the shameful amount of open bottles that has been sitting on my dresser for a while now.
Perfection Lumière claims to be long-wearing, suitable for all skin types, effortless to apply and to give a natural look, with SPF 10 as a little cherry on top.
Now, in my experience if something seems too good to be through it probably is. I have to admit I wasn’t the most well-disposed person in the world when I marched into Sephora to get a sample of it – Pro Lumière was one of my favorite foundations ever and my desperation when it was discontinued, soon to be replaced by Perfection Lumière, wasn’t exactly a secret. Also I heard so many bloggers insist on how cruel this product can be with dry skins that opening my sample jar I braced myself for the worst.
I decided to skip Chanel recommendations –best apply with a flat foundation brush like the MAC 190 or with fingertips –, grabbed my trusty Sigma 131/F15 – formally a duo fiber blush brush – and started buffing a tiny amount of product on my face.
A little goes a long way, I think I’ve used the usual one pump and a half to cover my whole face. I find it quite easy to blend, even if it sets quickly, so it’s not the kind of foundation that you want to dot on your face at first and then blend it like you have all the time in the world.
The coverage is the first miss: I have quite good skin so I don’t mind a light-medium coverage, but it’s definitely miles away from the amazing, almost-full but somehow still natural, coverage of the Pro Lumière. It sets to a nice creamy finish, with a bit of a natural glow – so definitely not mat or semi-mat like MAC Matchmaster – that to me looks like the Pro Lumière glow toned down just a fraction. The finish looks natural, but keep in mind that with my dry skin I gotta love some glow. On me it lasts 9-10 hours with just a little Chanel loose powder swiped around the nose and a hint of Benefit POREfessional underneath; after that time some oils start breaking through around the nose area, but nothing that can’t be fixed with some blotting paper. After 15 hours, anyways, my forehead, chin and cheeks still look perfect, definitely not greesy or patchy.
It’s still fall, so I haven’t been suffering of dry patches or flakiness yet, like happens in full winter, so for now the ‘suitable for all skin types’ remains a question mark, even if I don’t see how people with very oily skins could enjoy the glow.

Overall, I think it’s a good everyday foundation, that doesn’t keep all its promises but performs quite well, at least on dry to normal skins. But considering the huge amount of different experiences and reviews and price range I’d recommend to get a sample first and see how it works with your skin. Also to be color-matched in store, since the shade range has changed that much.
I think I’ll definitely buy the full size bottle, even if not in the near future: my loyalty stays with my trusty Pro Lumière I had the good sense to stock months ago.

Non accade molto spesso di sentire opionioni così contrastanti sullo stesso prodotto, ma sembra che questa volta il brand Chanel sia riuscito a dividere la beauty community più che a metà. Da quando questo prodotto è apparso sul mercato ho letto centinaia di recensioni così distanti l’una dall’altra da dare l’impressione che i reviewer non stessero parlando dello stesso prodotto. Il Perfection Lumière promette di essere a lunga durata, di facile applicazione, adatto a tutti i tipi di pelle e di avere un finish naturale, con in più un SPF 10 per non farci mancare niente. Ora, per esperienza posso tranquillamente affermare che se una cosa sembra troppo bella per essere vera, probabilmente lo è. Ad essere sincera non ero molto bendisposta quando sono entrata da Sephora a farmi fare un sample – il Pro Lumière, fondotinta di punta di Chanel poi messo fuori produzione per essere sostituito proprio dal Perfection Lumière, era uno dei miei preferiti e la mia disperazione a seguito del ritiro dal mercato a suo tempo non è rimasta esattamente un segreto. Oltretutto dopo aver letto tantissime review che insistevano su quanto impietoso questo fondotinta possa essere con la pelle secca, aprendo il mio barattolino mi sono fatta coraggio e mi sono preparata al peggio.
Ho deciso di saltare a piè pari le raccomandazioni di Chanel – secondo cui la migliore applicazione si otterrebbe con un pennello piatto come il 190 di MAC o con le dita – mi sono armata del mio fidato Sigma 131 (adesso F15) – ufficialmente si tratta di un duo fiber progettato per applicare il blush - ed ho cominciato a distribuire una piccola quantità di prodotto sul viso.
Poco prodotto è sufficiente. Credo di avere usato l’equivalente del solito pump e mezzo per tutto il viso. Si applica con facilità, nonostante asciughi rapidamente, quindi non si tratta di uno di quei fondotinta che si possono distribuire su tutto il viso per poi sfumarli con tutta calma.
La prima delusione arriva con il coverage: la mia pelle è in buono stato, quindi una copertura medio-leggera non mi infastidisce, sta di fatto che è lontana anni luce dalla favolosa, quasi full coverage seppur in qualche modo naturale, copertura del Pro Lumière.
Una volta asciutto, la pelle appare quasi cremosa, morbida, con una luminosità naturale – quindi decisamente non matte o semi-opaco come il Matchmaster di MAC – che mi ricorda la lucentezza del Pro Lumière un poco attenuata. La texture finale è molto naturale, ma considerate che, avendo la pelle secca, apprezzo sempre il finish luminoso. Su di me dura 9-10 ore, fissato con un velo di polvere libera di Chanel attorno al naso e pochissimo POREfessional di Benefit come base, sempre solo nella zona peri-nasale; dopo di chè comincia a notarsi un po’ di lucidità, sempre e solo nella zona T, ma niente di così grave da non potersi risolvere con dei foglietti assorbenti. Dopo 15 ore, comunque, fronte, mento e guance sono ancora perfette: la pelle non è lucida e il fondotinta è ancora uniforme.
Siamo ancora in autunno, quindi la mia pelle non è ancora in balia di secchezza eccessiva e screpolature, come succede in pieno inverno, per cui l’adattabilità a tutti i tipi di pelle resta ancora un punto interrogativo, anche se mi sembra troppo poco opaco per essere apprezzato a pieno da chi ha la pelle più grassa.

Tirando le somme, è un buon fondotinta adatto a tutti i giorni, che ovviamente non mantiene tutte le sue promesse ma ha comunque una buona performance, soprattutto con pelli normali e secche. Considerando la varietà di esperienze e il prezzo, consiglio comunque di provarlo un paio di volte a casa prima di acquistarlo e di farsi aiutare con il nuovo sistema di colori dai commessi.
Acquisterò senz’altro il full size, anche se non nel prossimo futuro: resto fedele al mio Pro Lumière di cui ho fatto scorta mesi fa.
