Sephora Pretty in Pink travel brush set

Spring is finally here and to wash away the winter dullness Sephora celebrates with a little limited edition collection of travel essentials, with pink as main theme. Three makeup bags and a nail file set come along with this pretty travel brush set, with 3 brushes – well, technically there are 4 – to achieve a simple yet complete look on the go.

In this set you get a powder brush, a flat foundation brush, a double ended eyeshadow brush and obviously a little pink pouch to carry them around. The brushes come in a short handle size, with shiny black plastic handles and ferrules and bright baby pink hair, made with the softest synthetic fibers.

As usual, synthetic hair means cruelty-free, no shedding or color bleeding during the cleaning phase, perfect application of both powders and liquid/cream formulas but also a slightly longer drying time.


The powder brush looks like a slightly smaller MAC 129. The size is perfect to apply both blushes and setting powders, and if used sideways it applies contouring and bronzers with some precision.
I don’t own the full size foundation brush by Sephora so I can’t compare the sizes, but the travel version is neither a concealer brush nor a foundation brush but somewhere in between: it’s smaller than a typical foundation brush and you’ll have to struggle a little longer with the base application but you’ll also be able to blend concealer effortlessly with the same tool.
The double ended shadow brush comes with a flat side that reminds me of the 239 - perfect to apply cream or powder eyeshadows on the lid – and a smudge side like the 214 – to smudge pencils liners or apply shadow in the lower lash line -.

The handles are actually shorter than I anticipated – I was expecting something like the Sigma travel essentials sets, but this are even shorter -: you can see that they’re scarcely longer than a lipgloss. They’re very compact but not uncomfortable to use, as they sit perfectly in my grip. And obviously they’d fit even in the smallest makeup bag.

The only disappointing thing is the pouch. It’s all easy-to-clean plastic, with 3 sleeves to hold the brushes individually, but the straps are to stiff to be firmly knotted. A magnetic button or a softer ribbon would have been a smarter solution. All in all it looks and feels cheap.
I was also a little concerned for the double sided brush but it came with a little plastic tube to protect the side that stays in the sleeve, so be sure to keep it.

In the end, is a very nice set, with great value for good price. I plan to keep it in my purse for touch-ups or swatches – God knows how many times I wished I had a brush with me to test a product in store, since fingers can take you so far -.

La Primavera è finalmente qui e per spazzare via il grigiore invernale Sephora ne celebra l’arrivo con una collezione in edizione limitata di accessori da viaggio, con il rosa come elemento conduttore. Tre trousse da viaggio ed un set di lime per unghie affiancano questo grazioso set, con 3 pennelli – tecnicamente sarebbero 4 – per ottenere al volo un look semplice ma completo.

In questo set troviamo un pennello per cipria, un pennello piatto per fondotinta ed un pennello doppio per l’ombretto, più ovviamente un astuccio per portarli con sé. I pennelli hanno un’impugnatura corta, di plastica nera lucida come la ghiera e morbidissime setole sintetiche rosa confetto.
Come sempre, setole sintetiche significano cruelty-free, nessuna perdita di peli o di colore durante il lavaggio, ottime performance sia con polveri, sia con creme e liquidi, ma anche un tempo di asciugatura più lungo.

Il pennello per le polveri sembra una versione lievemente più piccolo del 129 di MAC. Le dimensioni sono quelle giuste per applicare cipria e blush, e se utilizzato di lato offre anche una certa precisione per l’applicazione di bronzer e contouring.
Non possiedo il full size di Sephora, quindi non posso fare paragoni sulle misure, ma il pennello piatto per fondotinta sembra una via di mezzo tra un pennello per il correttore ed uno per la base: ci vuole più tempo ad applicare il fondotinta perché ovviamente è più piccolo del normale, ma in compenso permette di sfumare senza fatica anche il correttore.
Il pennello doppio per l’ombretto ha un applicatore piatto che mi ricorda il 239 da un lato – perfetto per applicare polveri e creme su tutta la palpebra – ed uno sfumino come il 214 dall’altra – per sfumare la matita oppure applicare l’ombretto sulla palpebra inferiore -.

Le impugnature sono più corte di quanto avessi previsto – mi aspettavo qualcosa di simile ai pennelli del set da viaggio della Sigma, ma questi sono più corti -: come si vede dalla foto, sono di poco più lunghi di un lipgloss. Sono molto compatti, ma comunque confortevoli da utilizzare: si impugnano con facilità e la lunghezza del manico non dà noia. Ed ovviamente entrerebbero anche nella trousse più piccola.

L’unico dettaglio un po’ deludente è l’astuccio. E’ foderato di tessuto plastificato di facile pulizia ed è dotato di 3 separatori per i pennelli, ma le stringhe che costituiscono la chiusura sono troppo dure e spesse per ottenere un nodo decente, che resti chiuso. Un bottone magnetico o anche solo un nastro più morbido sarebbero stati una scelta più saggia. Tutto sommato piuttosto scadente.
Ero anche un po’ preoccupata per il pennello doppio, ma arriva in dotazione con un tubetto di plastica per proteggere le setole dell’estremità che resta dentro alla custodia, quindi conservatelo, mi raccomando.

In conclusione è un set davvero carino, con un buon rapporto qualità prezzo. Lo terrò sicuramente in borsa per eventuali ritocchi e per gli swatches – solo il cielo sa quante volte avrei volute avere un pennello a portata di mano per testare un prodotto in negozio, visto che con le dita si arriva solo fino ad un certo punto -.
