Urban decay Super-saturated high gloss lip color in Lovechild

After last fall’s success, Urban decay added two new shades to the Super-saturated lip color range for Spring 2012: Apocalypse, a deep berry shade, and Lovechild, described as a pale pink.
I was quite excited for the release since the range previously featured only bold, very bright colors and I didn’t want to randomly spend quite a sum on something I never tried before and wouldn’t wear that often.

The product comes in a carton box that matches the shade. The packaging it’s quite basic: a sleek, thick and chunky pencil that reminds me of the well-known NYX Jumbo ones. The plastic cap feels solid and has a tight hold. The black plastic bottom comes out – at least in mine – and at first I was a little annoyed but I think it was made to make the recycling process easier and it also allowed me to see the real product amount – the actual pencil stops near the ‘I’ in the Lovechild writing -.
They’re fragrance free and completely cruelty free. The PAO is 24 months.

The formula is excellent but I have to be honest and say that I was expecting better lasting power.
The texture is glossy, creamy and very moisturizing. I didn’t notice any color bleeding and it didn’t collect in the creases. The pencil form makes it easy to apply and allows perfect control.
It lasts 3-4 hours without eating but I noticed a little fading in the inner lip after the third hour. Food and drinks erase the glossy finish, but the color stays put for a while. After 6-7 hours my lips looked pretty much naked, but I could still see a hint of color.

I have very pigmented lips and I was impressed by the pigmentation: the color is opaque and gives medium to full coverage in one stroke.

Lovechild is described as a pale pink, but honestly I don’t see it. It’s a medium light pink with the softest hint of blue undertones but it still looks quite natural. I’m seriously in love with the shade and hope UD will release some more pale shades, maybe even a coral version of Lovechild, because so far the color range feels incomplete.

I can see that the sharpening process will turn into a pure mess, in terms of waste of product and gloss smeared on the sharpener, but a couple of minutes in the freezer should put things straight.

The major downside for me is the amount: you get 2.8g/0.10 oz, which is slightly more than half of a NYX Jumbo pencil – which is 5g – for 4 times the price. The price tag is definitely high, but on the other hand you get a lip pencil, a lipstick and a gloss all in one and UD quality is impeccable.

Dopo il successo dello scorso autunno, per la primavera 2012 Urban decay ha aggiunto due nuove tonalità al range permanente dei Super-saturated lip color: Apocalypse, un color vinaccia – che in tutta onestà non sembra proprio primaverile -, e Lovechild, descritto come un rosa pallido.
Ero eccitatissima per questo lancio perchè la gamma di colori pre-esistente era costituita di sole tonalità brillanti e, sebbene volessi testare questo prodotto da diverso tempo, non volevo acquistare alla cieca un prodotto mai provato prima ma soprattutto un colore che avrei indossato raramente.

Il prodotto si presenta in una scatola di cartone abbinata alla tonalità. Il packaging è piuttosto basic: un matitone lucido che mi ricorda le famose Jumbo pencil della NYX. Il tappo di plastica ha una buona tenuta. Il fondo, sempre di plastica nera, si svita – per lo meno nella mia matita -; all’inizio questo dettaglio mi ha un po’ irritata ma credo sia stato fatto apposta per consentire un reciclaggio completo, e tra l’altro mi ha permesso di constatare la reale quantità di prodotto contenuta – la matita ‘reale’ arriva fino alla ‘I’ della scritta Lovechild -.
La profumazione è assente ed i Super-saturated sono completamente cruelty free. Il PAO è di 24 mesi.

La formula è eccellente ma devo essere onesta ed ammettere che mi sarei aspettata una maggiore longevità, soprattutto considerando quanto UD insista sulla lunga durata di queste matite.
La texture è brillante, cremosa e molto idratante. Non ho notato sbavature o accumuli di prodotto nelle pieghe delle labbra. La forma a matita agevola un’applicazione controllata e permette di essere molto precisi.
Dura 3-4 ore senza mangiare, ma dopo la terza ora il colore tende a sbiadire nell’area più interna delle labbra. Cibo e bevande cancellano l’effetto gloss, ma il colore sottostante resiste. Dopo 6-7 ore le mie labbra sembravano pressochè nude, ma riuscivo ad intravedere ancora un’ombra di colore.

Le mie labbra sono molto pigmentate e la coprenza del prodotto mi ha decisamente colpita: il colore è opaco ed offre una coprenza da media a totale in una sola passata.

Urban decay descrive Lovechild come un rosa pallido, ma si tratta di una descrizione un po’ fuorviante. E’ un rosa chiaro medio con leggerissimi toni blu, ma comunque molto naturale. Sono davvero innamorata del colore e spero che la UD proponga presto altri colori chiari, adatti a tutti i giorni – magari persino una versione corallo di Lovechild -, perché al momento la gamma di colori è decisamente incompleta.

Temperare questo tipo di matite morbide può essere problematico, in termini di prodotto sprecato e lame del temperino impiastricciate di gloss, ma un paio di minuti nel congelatore dovrebbero risolvere il problema.

La quantità di prodotto che si riceve va nella colonna dei contro: 2.8g/0.10 oz, che è poco più di metà di una Jumbo pencil della NYX – 5g – per il quadruplo del costo. Il prezzo di listino è effettivamente alto, ma d’altro canto è un prodotto 3 in 1 - matita labbra, rossetto e gloss – e la qualità Urban decay è ineccepibile.
